Ugh....

Let's just say there were 5 minutes of insane acceleration followed by a loud bang and a lengthy coasting session....

All ancient history now.

have you thought about not running a tee?i would hate for that new motor to blow due to a failed tee fitting.

here is how i did mine and a friends ka-t, and it works really well.

the 'T' wouldnt be bad if you didnt have that pretty heavy oil psi sender hanging off the end of it. i remote mounted my sender cause it is pretty heavy just to be hanging off some aluminum like that. ive read stories of people having their bspt adapter breaking in there cause of that. before i even mounted anything on my motor, i had the 'T' with all the fittings in it and screwed the sender into the rear like how yours is greg. i then i grabed the whole assembly with two fingers and held it like as if it were mounted to the filter housing and instantly said no way. itll only cost you 3' of braided line and a female-male fitting, and could save you lots!

looks nice, but loose the brass tee section unless you want this motor to follow the path of the previous...brass is simply too soft for the vibration laden automotive enviroment.might i sudgest running the tee that tuner toys offers? its made of quality steel and works very well for this application.else i would do like steve s14 sudgested and use the existing port on the oil filter tree for the turbo feed line...

my jgs kit came with all stainless fittings and T. i still didnt like the fact of that sender hanging off the end though. as long as you get the weight of the sender off of there youll be good. on my lude, i used brass fittings and T without any problems, and i had a mechanical oil psi gauge so no weight was hanging off of it. def do something about it though.

Beautiful engine! This is how you build a serious engine. Doesn´t cost much more cash or time to do it nice compared to crappy. And it´s much easier to work on the engine later and discover leaks and stuff if it´s clean.

Good job Mr Hitman!

Greg, I'm glad you're finally making some actual progress man. We both know how much heart ache the Vert has been. Hopefully we can both hit the track together this winter. If you can keep her together that long.

My T is a SS bspt adapter to a male-male "galv steel) adapter to a 1/8 T(galv steel ) Cost me 1.46 for the T and male to male. Already had the SS bspt adapter. Ran for a month and one run was an 800mile road trip car didn't loose 1 drop off oil.

Added the IACV to the aftermarket intake manifold. This took some MAJOR fabrication, so BIG PROPS to Jason (The Real McCoy) for his mad fabbin' skills.

p.s. Anyone want to buy a heavily-ported and lightened stock KA manifold?

NICE JOB GREG! I think you should have painted it orange instead of red tho, haha. I'm in "gathering parts" stage all over again w/ my car, haha.

You know, xcessive now makes a remote mounting kit for it so you don't have to have mad fabbin skills .

why did you keep the IACV? cant you just crack open the throttle..looks much cleaner without it too.

Are you kidding?

Do you know how much of a pain in the butt it'd be to just keep the throttle "cracked open" a bit every single time you need to come to a stop to keep the engine from dying? Nissan engineers didn't just throw the IACV on because they felt like having one other valve and some more hoses dangling off the manifold...it serves an integral purpose to the engine's running. This is a daily driver, not a weekend drag car. And I don't think that manifold needs to look any cleaner, it's already beautiful and 10x nicer than the stock one.

You can't just junk whatever you feel like when turboing the KA if you want to have ANY bit of smooth engine operation and normal drivability

uhhh have you forgotten you can adjust the cable to keep it a little cracked open? and i know people who have done this so this isnt an "out of the blue" idea.

Not everyone likes jury-rigging their KA-T setups to run "well", especially when it's a thorough, complete, expensive, and well-done build representing the entire NICO community. Keeping the throttle slightly cracked is unnecessary if you just keep the IACV!!!! It's there for a reason, and it's not because it's aesthetically pleasing.

I think far too many KA-T owners are just impetuous and impatient (and often lazy) when it comes to their custom builds. Instead of working through and solving a problem many just try to ignore/eliminate it and then develop other problems. It all refers back to my maxim: DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

at least you can eliminate the IACV as a choice if theres something wrong with the idle. lots of people have their IACV crap out on them, but sometimes other issues are an easy fix but people replace the IACV anyway to eliminate that option. Thats great that greg customized the manifold to once again accept the IACV and I wasn't flaming him for it. I was merely asking him why he personally choose to keep the IACV. I remember asking a friend who didnt go the same path as Greg did because I just wanted his opinion. Just keeping an open mind to see what I want to do when i purchase a custom intake manifold.

I blew a KA already from shortcuts so i've had my fair share of consequences. Needless to say, never again.

and also you stated that keeping the throttle cracked open is unecessary if we just keep the IACV. Well, the same goes for the other way around. Keeping the IACV is unecessary if you just crack open the throttle. And in Greg's words, "This took some MAJOR fabrication, so BIG PROPS to Jason (The Real McCoy) for his mad fabbin' skills," something not everyone has.

But again, if its shown to be the best way then im open for it. just keeping an open mind.

Fricking sweeeet Greg!

You know, I was just talking to Xcessive today about your build. Im glad to see all those parts so prettied up. That plenum looks AWESOME polished!

Just wait until you feel the powerband that manifold (s) makes!

Rick
