The shift is courtesy of the LevelTen transmission. It makes a big difference.bullittandy wrote:Great video! Seems to spool fast and the shift seemed quick too. That A/F ratio seems just about perfect, I got a little bit scared when I saw the first pic of the gauge that read "16.0"......)
I think it is closer to 5 seconds, plus I had to lift after the shift to keep the car in line. I think I can shave off another 1/2 second in dry conditions and with brake boosting.maxnix wrote:Maybe 6 seconds to 60 in the rain? Let's see some dry runs.
Wish I had time to come by last fall, but I had to make it through the mountains just before Thanksgiving and the snows. NW was already wet and cold. I'll be back sometime after it is completed.
You'll never get bored driving a turbo Q. The open wastegate sounds cool in the vid but it is unbelievably loud outside the car. It sounds like a jet engine at full throttle. Not too good for the desired sleeper look.elwesso wrote: God that thing sounds SICK.. Listen to that turbo spooling, INTENSE! Open wastegate FTW!!!
The boost comes on at about 3.5k in first gear and at around 3k in the other gears. The car has decent off boost performance so it is not terribly laggy. It pulls just as hard as a regular till about 4k then the fun begins. Highway rolls have become more like highway slingshots. I've only taken it up to around 110 from a 70 mph punch. It is fast.elwesso wrote:Looks like you start going at about 3 grand and the freight train starts at about 4. This thing has to be purely intense from a roll on the highway. 60-140? No problem!
I don't have the converters on my car, Shane still has his. Plus, the size differences in compressor and turbine wheels have a certain effect on the powerband. As far which is better, I think a rear mount can be made as fast as a front mount if you design it properly.elwesso wrote:I dont know what it is but at 6lbs your setup seems to be a lot better than the rear mount turbo? Maybe shane still has some more bugs to work out?
The turbo spools up in about 1 second if you punch it at 50 while in D. If you put the car into 3 before you punch it, then the spool up is less than .5 secs. Once, you get over 65 there is no lag. You floor it and it takes off.elwesso wrote:Id love to see some dry run videos.. A 50-80 run would be cool too... When you punch it from a roll, say at like 40 or 50 in 2nd gear how long does it take for the turbo to spool up?
Both our cars still need work, so don't feel too bad about it. I've still got to finish the exhaust system and also I need to take care of my struts which are worn. Plus, my brakes are starting to warp. It never ends.qsiguy wrote:Yes, I still have much tuning and "tune-up 'ing" to do. lol, and my transmission is really bugging me. Just wait til I get my car working right, bring it on Siju! Let's race!
Awesome teaser video Siju. We want more! Keep em coming. I picked up a suction cup mount that I am going to try and mount to the trunk with my video camera so you can really hear the spool up. I haven't driven the car much for weeks and don't plan to drive it much until I can get around to the repairs and tuning. Dang valve cover gaskets are making the thing smoke like crazy.
I'm a little dumb when it comes to this sort of stuff. Would you handle installations too?sijoko wrote:

I'll try to take some video today since it's not raining. This time I shouldn't have to lift after the 1-2 shift.
That's what I've calculated. Zero to 60 is somewhere in the high 4s to low 5s. It's the pull after 60 that is awesome because the car doesn't lose boost after the shift. I was watching a video of a car with a centri supercharger and you could see the boost drop significantly after the shift. When it comes to power, turbos FTW!NY94J30 wrote:Wow.
I got you starting your run just before the timer ticks over to 20 sec, hitting 60 at 25 sec. and 100 at 30 sec. That's really impressive. The sound is amazing, too.
Why not? I've seen the VH crammed into a lot of smaller cars. I'm sure your engine bay has enough room.d!ck wrote:think i could shoehorn this beast into my cressida? awesome work! this needs to be a Nico project for the front page or something.
I do all the work on my car, whatever it is. The only thing I wouldn't mess with would be a transmission rebuild but everything else is game.Haitian_King wrote:

Where oh where did you get that woodkit and shift knob? I'm beside myself with envy. Very nice.

I can do a custom kit for anyone if they are interested. In fact, I've got some new ideas that I would like to try out. I've learned a lot from this build and am eager to do another one.Haitian_King wrote:I meant installing for me. I don't think I'd be able to do that sort of stuff. Even with a premade kit.
For 8 year old wood, that looks great! Wow.
Especially, when you consider that I'm only running 6 psi......TgduMg wrote:

A street driven G50 that hits 100 mph under 11 seconds.
Wow indeed!

If I built a kit, it would be relatively straight-forward to install with instructions and phone support. The hardest part would be swapping out the exhaust manifolds.Haitian_King wrote:Would the custom kit be hard to install? Would you provide instructions on what would need to be removed/relocated?
The main difference between the kits is the center switch panel and ashtray.Haitian_King wrote:A Google search on Joshua Tree showed their site is still active. It's $306 for an exotic wood OEM kit. I see that the 94-96 is a 6 piece kit and the 90-93 is only 5 pieces. What's missing from 90-93? For the same price, I'm considering getting the 94-96 kit.

The gearing on the Q is not conducive to 50-100 runs. It doesn't build boost right away because of the engine rpms. If I punched it at 60 or higher, then it is much better as far as getting immediate boost.maxnix wrote:8 seconds 50 -100 is pretty good.
The trans was rebuilt by LevelTen a long time ago. It has about 100k on the rebuild. The diff was also changed to a 4.08 ratio by UNITRAX.Haitian_King wrote:Something I thought about on the way to work this morning. Did you reaplce the transmission? Like with an IPT or LEvel 10 to handle the boost? Is your differential stock?
