ok so im the one with the blown sr20 that my moms responsible for member. so i finally got another engine and started my project. heres wats been goin on in a sequence. keep in mind its my first project and im learning as i go. so if u got a suggestion kool im all ears, if u disagree wit ne thing, ehh ok heres an update... bare with me as i might leave some pics out. im almost done btw just gota reinstall some things (axles, wheels, minor engine parts etc etc.)grab a chair and some pop corn

ok so rite when i started workin on it...

Next she needed a wash just to keep her spirits up..not me in this pic btwso after the wash...you can see my friends Z in the reflection..dnt be fooled tho it has some paint damage from sitting in the sun for about 2.5 years..

So after some irritating phone calls, shop visits, emails, and more visits i had no luck finding an engine i felt comfortable buying. I had some uber bad luck!! then i found a shop that claims to import engines from japan with less than 80k miles.. well they were sellin me an sr20de for $600.00 delivered.(only like 25 miles from shop) but they suggested i replace, rear main seal, HEAD GASKET , other seals i cant member which ones, well truth is i cant member how much they told me 2 replace cus there was a list i was like oh hell no! i was gona have 2 like put in way 2 much $$ on their engine so i skipped them. then after like another 2 months of hunting one down (note: i was aware of sites such as tigerjapanese.com but i am on a budget, had to be local) i found one on craigslist for $390. a red top. so i was like waaaah! no way! wats the catch rite?!? i go see the engine, still in the guys b13 se-r. so we went for a test drive. engine was strong i was convinced i wanted it and was determined 2 buy it. he was selling it to install his SR20DET he bought,.. so he was gona have this one as a spare. i quickly ran 2 the bank and pulled out some $$ for a down, but my parents yelled at me not to untill my dad saw the engine himself.. that a**whole! i want the engine now! so finally after like a day or 2 we go back, im redy! so he tests drive the engine, and approves ok so now im negotiating, whens the engine coming out?(2days time he says) good good i concur. may i be present? ( uh uhh sure?) kool! and as for the receipt.....(huh a receipt?! im not a store why u need a receipt? how u know i am who i say i am??!! wats the receipt for?!) and im like woh woh calm down man, its just kinda; u know, just normal and a good idea. (what are you planning on taking me to court?) and im like no its just my personal insurance.... then it doesnt help to have my dads input on this at this point as its my deal and im negotiating, he makes the seller more mad. so i left that day w/o an engine and a heated temper. my facial expression... (this is a horrible joke rite!!) so anyway about a week later, that seller gives me a call and apologizes 2 me, and agrees 2 write me a receipt. so after that last time, i was skeptical but make a long story short i bought the engine. it is a red top, someone tried 2 paint it tho. so it looks like crap, but ill repaint it later. sorry for the long story but i thought it was necessary so u can feel my frustration and happiness. so any way back to the build. heres a few pics of the engine... so thats it sitting in my back yard as im pulling out the blown engine. so next is some pics of the whole process. i didnt get as many pics as i wanted as i could only use my phone, and my hands were pretty greased up most of the time. but ne ways here they are.so i was unable 2 get pics of the engine as it was goin in, but u can see that in other peoples builds. like i said im almost done, but i still got tons of work 2 do. member that the car has been non opp for about 2.5 years, when i get it running i gota make sure the springs are still good, check for things that might have just rotted away. but my plans are to buy some coilovers and drop it about 1.5-2.0 inch drop. eventually i want some Enkei evo5s. no body kits. maybe later on but i doubt it. im gona paint my fog lights yellow, for the jdm look. i know what ur thinking, its gona look wack. but no it wont, my friend alredy did it and it looks like real jdm fog lights. just a process. pics of that when i get to it. some HID front lights as well. as for the engine, i wana turbo it when i get the $$, upgrade my transmission for that, ofcourse gota buy all the goodies that u need when goin turbo.. better ECU, some strut bars, and a real intake. undrdrive pulleys, adv ignition timing. JWT or BC cams. I already have a 2.5 Greddy superdragger exhaust so yes i mean all this is will come in time lol not rite away i really wish i had all these parts in by 2morrw but in the world we live in, its tuff. im in college and just got hired at autozone so i hope i can get parts at a good discount so i can keep my project in motion. as soon as i get the car running more pics r comin! any mods i install,.. r gona be photographed. so for now that it but let me know what u guys think,..special thanks to DMeN Z, 2dr_sentra, likethemovies, and everyone who has helped me with my build

Yo man, you need to get this finished! I haven't helped you much since we removed the motor so I'll give you a break. It's going to be fun modding your car with brand new goodies.

PS: I'll be visiting your place after I finish putting all the hatch trim pieces back on the Z.

Sounds cool. Hopefully, by then I'll have the Stillen lip, the wheels and that faded purple tint removed.

Good luck with your project. Looks like you are very committed. Those guys selling JDM engines always say they have low mile engines. I think they don't know what mileage are on them. My friend bought an engine from one of those guys and had to send it back. Then he had to send the 2nd one back. It was the 3rd one that finally turned out to be good, and it was really good. He got really lucky with the 3rd one. It served him well.

Was the engine you sold a JDM engine?

thats kool how much did you sell it for? unfortunately the guy i bought it from, had already swapped the engine i have now into his se-r with out knowing the current mileage. he used it to pass the smog test on his car. so basically what im saying is that i dont know how many miles are on the engine, but the reason i bought it, is because i felt the power the engine still has. its still a very strong engine, and im confident it will serve me well.

If cared for a SR20 will last along time ....I had one in a 200SX SE-R all the way to 256k before I sold the car and it ran great , the 24k motor was a USDM one out of my NX , it came out when I put the built motor in ...and I sold it to a friend for 400.00

yea my 200sx se-r has 155,000 miles on the chasis so she should still hold up pretty good. she has no rust either so thats awesome and im definitely not going to let my engine go to waste on my watch! lol especially after tracking down a engine for so long.

Congrats on the new job, go in like a sponge and soak up all the information you can. As for the deadline on the car, take your time and double check yourself no matter how confident you are everything was done right.

If you do it right the first time you will save time and the headache of having to do it over and any added expense.

well its been a while since my last post, to long! unfortunately no my B14 still isn't on the road im getting so effin pissed!!

OK so heres what everyone has missed, i started working some pretty good hours as i keep doing good, downside is my daily 80 mile drive! that's round trip. so besides the fact maybe ill work 6-8 hours that day, i got to add like a 2.5 -3 hours of drive time for that whole day, so basically what im saying is that im never home most of the time of the day on that day that i do work aside from that, my uncle that was teaching me how to swap engines and help me, (which i still have faith in, (most cars lol) has hit a snag and kinda left me hanging when he couldn't figure it out and said he would look into it) so right now i have a somewhat dismantled car in my back yard with my new sr20 already in it, the problem from what i can see and understand from my tio, is that my wire harness is not reaching all the plugs in my new engine. i know for a fact both engines are SR20DE's. i physically and visually confirmed it when we yanked out old engine and started swapping the new one in. shame on me even though i put hours of reading and researching things to know about SRs i never ever ever EVER! found info on the difference between a high port and a low port throttle body engine. so my old engine was a low port because the TB sat higher, the one i swapped in is a high port because it sits lower, i forget how to explain why its vise versa. any who according to what i do know from my uncle, my harness isn't reaching certain spots because the TB gets in the way. this is what i do know. now i wouldn't be surprised if my uncle left some things out, and i actually have more to worry about than this but so far this is what i know, and yes i have seen what hes talking about, it actually does seem that this is 1 problem, again im sure there's more. (on a side not, my PC was at geek squad for repairs for like 2 months or else i would've posted this long story question way back then!)so now im to whats happened more recently,... sometime last week my dads mechanic comes over to do an estimate on the repairs, not to my surprise (as i have no faith in this man) he says they are not the same engines and that the engine is for another car, he cannot be held responsible for not delivering the job so hes not even going to attempt.... so i was not surprised. i was pretty annoyed at my situation, but not surprised.

OK so heres the question,.. can i change the whole entire throttle body piece from my old engine into this one? or can this one still work as long as i flip it around. i know its either not making sense the way im writing this, or you just cant picture it.

(ok i deleted the pic i tried posting on here look at my post beneath this one,...)

im talking about that whole entire piece lol. (not mine btw, obviously! lol) one of my managers at work is a walking talking encyclopedia of cars. hes been working on them for over 40 years. he owns a mechanic shop aside from working at auto zone. he says he can fix it, and based on the info Ive given him, its an easy fix. i have faith in this man, hes always my go to guy at work when i cant answer a customers question. Ive learned so much from him. i know he will get the job done right and not charge me to much money. but has anyone ran into the same problem as i? or even heard of this happening? if its easy enough to where i can fix it and save myself the cash, please let me know!... but if you guys still suggest i let the man fix my car the rest of the way, i will understand. anyway please remember im still learning and wow this is one hell of a lesson Ive learned! lol BTW if you guys need to look at more pictures 2 make it make even more sense, just look at my previous posts on this same page, those pictures should suffice..

Looks like its coming along pretty good even with your snags that you've ran into. I just picked up my 200sx SE-R a lil while ago trust me I have alot more issues than you have with that one. transmission, clutch, rust, interior, wiring all sorts of problems with mine runs and drives but still a rough project. Looks like you got a steal for just having to put a motor in!! Love the fact its got no rust!!!

hahaha man i labeled my build "project 200sx" and its been in effect since like.... man i cant believe its been this long im kind of embarrassed to say, but since maybe July or august of 2009! I think its time i get this done and ASAP which is why i thought about having my coworker lend me a hand. I completely and entirely love my car, and a few people have told me to sell the car, and i don't want to as long as there's still hope and man im WISHING lol but even more people who have read my thread have actually emailed asking me if i was willing to sell my SR! lol no back off it took me a while to find an engine i felt comfortable buying.

hey ABNRML4U i was kinda hoping to get some feedback from you bro any ideas???

looks like alot of those parts you should be able to get at autozone or napa. Or at least the rubber hoses and the cables.
