well guess what... when I went to go start my car after work, it clicked about 3 to4 times and died. I had to had jump it with my co-workers car. Then this morning as I started the car (going to work) it started right up on the first try!

I didnt try to turn it on and off because of work. I will let you know after work.

Just for the record. I'm on my second starter.1.Replaced starter.Auto zone NG.(Literally falling apart)2.Replaced starter (second time).NAPA3.Replaced Neg.cable.4.Added body ground from Neg.side of Bat. to the chassis.5.Cleaned and inspected Pos.cable.6.Replaced all plastic coated wire connectors on the Pos.cable and the ground wire from the starter with soldered connections.Guess what? Still ckicking!Next test is the small relay under the air intake mentioned by Isk and james. After that will be to bypass the ignition switch as a test.Good Luck.Let us know how you make out.

I replaced my starter a few weeks ago with one by Duralast. It's been working great so far. No issues or anything.

By the way, the best starter I've seen for the vert (except for OEM from Nissan) is NSA brand. They build brand new starters, not remans. You can get it from rockauto.

Are you talking about part number STR3009? I have to replace my starter on this vehicle and that price actually looks pretty good. I just want to make sure that is what you're talking about.

car still cranks no clicks.... i also replaced one of the relays, and the inhibitor switch. your neg terminal getting wet wouldn't cause it not to start. i wash my engine bay every time i wash my car and it always starts up just fine.

if youre going to get a new cable(s) i would suggest relocating the inline ground on the neg cable. factory has it bolted to the battery pan, i put it somewhere on the fender well where there was already a hole.

I didnt think it would either - but this morning I went to start the car and the battery died out - so I unhooked the neg. cable while the alarm was going crazy and sounding like a dying cat when I went to pull it off the alarm came back to life - didnt have time to mess with it - had to go to work.

I get home from work - hook the battery calbe up and the alarm goes off like normal - I start the car and it starts everytime since - I assume the neg. battery connection was not good - I hope anyways X my fingers!

i have a 95 240sx, dont know about the s13s

this past weekend i swap out the starter...and still had the clicking....looked at my ignition switch and it would mess up when i turned it on with a screwdriver...then bam....no power to the ignition...WTF

so i got a ignition switch(not lock and cylinder...replaced that last year)...you can use...the j30 and the 200sx switch, got mine from junkyard off a j30 put it in.... and still wasnt get any power to the starter and turned out to be a blown green 30 amp fuse under the hood...

changed the starterignition switch30 amp fuse (block looking)

havent had any problems with start-up and no clicking...

well guys hope that hopes...cause it solved all of my annoying problems.

I think it was my bttery cables not being tight enough or whatever as the car starts and runs fine now and all I did was unhook the battery completly let it sit for 8hrs and then hook it back up.

you got a new neg cable? did you relocate the inline ground on it? or did you get a non-nissan cable? put upward and or downward pressure on the key when you are trying to start it, could be the switch. you got the kragen starter, im beginning to think this is the one common thing we have all had with the clicking issue. if mine starts clicking again, the only thing left for me to try is getting a nissan starter and a new switch. i got the kragen on there now its only 6 mo old. replacing both my cables is what really helped me tho. however after doing that a couple months later it began clicking again... then i replaced the inhibitor switch on the transmission and now it's been ok.

thats the inhibitor switch. and no, thats not for the manual, its for the auto. this switch tells the car whether its in P R N D 2 or 1 ... its also the switch for the reverse lights. it can go bad somehow and not tell the car its ok to start. idk, just throwing ideas out there... part number 31918-43X01

you can't tell? well more specifically it's on the passenger side of the transmission, and it's connected to the same thing that the shifter connects to on the side of the transmission. just follow your wiring harness from the fuse box where all the relays are...down past the starter... keep going, then it should go to the side of the trans...stop. thats the inhibitor switch. its like three bolt screws holding it onto the trans. you gotta disconnect the shift link, theres a cotter pin, dont loose it, then you gotta move the shifter all the way to 1st gear to get the two ***** of upper bolt/screws off.

the same switch on a manual is called an inter-lock switch btw.

this by far is the strangest most eluding problem i've ever had with a car.

I had a chance to work on starter on my buddy's 92 vert. Symptom was most of the time car starts just fine, but from time to time there was a clicking sound, and car just wouldn't start.

We went to Autozone and got the rebuilt one, but it did the same thing. Actually, it was worse than the original stock unit. Went back to Autozone and got the replacement. Guess what? It's been working perfect ever since we replaced with a second one. My advice is don't trust starters from auto parts store.

Replacing starter was very easy. You need a long extension like this and it'll take less than 5 min to get the job done once the car is on jack stands. Extension is slightly over 15 inch long. It has to be about this length otherwise it won't be easy. The vert has auto transmission, so I would think it's even easier with manual transmission. Hope this helps.

Well i replaced my starter with a much more expensive Nissan starter... and well that wasn't the problem. (i have a perfectly good auto parts store starter for sale now) within the last month i started having the clicking issue come back, and today my new ignition switch came in UPS from courtesy nissan. installed it pretty quick and the problem is completely fixed. took a little longer for me because i had some alarm wires to resplice. starts right up like it should. and the nissan starter is much quieter. here is the part number for the lock/switch 48700-S13001.......and picture of the old one.
