guess what.....no dice. i took the vert to the fair last night, and when we went to leave, click click click click. it didn't want to start at all now....i had to get a jump and then it wanted to after charging for a couple mins. i'm going to do the pos really expensive cable today and see if that helps. if not, then im going with a non-parts store starter, and going with a nissan one. there's also some relays under the factory air filter tube that goes down into the front of the car. is it possible that one of those can be bad? as i do here clicking from that fuse box panel as well.

Yeah, the second one in on the top left is a starter relay. It is a black relay. I replaced mine with one from the dealer - didn't help, unfortunately.

JB82,I've spent 2 hrs. yesterday cleaning connections and checking for resistance.Still produces a nice click every now and then.I think my next move is a genuine Nissan starter.I called the dealer on Friday.$238.00plus $50 core charge if I didnt have an origanal OEM core to return, total 283.00 ouch! Hope that cable works out for you. Also if you have a voltage meter, you can test between the positive cable and the small black wire directly at the starter selenoid. I would do this with the pos.cable connected to the battery, and disconnected at the starter.Have a friend turn the ignition switch, while you hold the leads on the pos cable(the end that connects to the starter and the selenoid wire).Should have 12 volts.First make sure that there is 12 volts at the battery. I would do this test numerous times being that, this seems to be an inconsistant problem. If you have12V every time,I would replace the starter w/ Original equip. If this this dosen't work you can always sell your car and buy a Camero.Just kidding!Good luck with that.

$283..that makes baby jesus cry. my cheap starter has a lifetime warranty so thats tempting just to trade it in again if this doesn't work. so i finished up last night, put all the harnesses back together with the new pos cable, didn't check any voltage...i can't find the multimeter. anyway it started up just fine (but it always did when cold) so i drove it around for 15 mins...tried to make a real life situation of it and let it sit about 30 mins before i tried to crank it back up....and when i did, it cranked right up. but it also did that when i just replaced the neg cable...so i'm going to yet again, give this a few days before i say this is a fix or not...the only other thing to do would be to get a nissan starter....or a VQ swap w/ 6 speed....oh ya that sounds better.

Go get a multimeter. Cost like $3 for a cheap one. Do voltage drop test. I just went through a whole class of starters and alternators. Due voltage drops on the lines. Check the batttery to starter, relay on the starter, and the start signal line to the starter. My friends wont' start and it it brand new. Takes abotu 7 tries before ti will go. Relay is bad. Not completely burned out but only allows 7volts instead of 12

Correction to my last post. I was talking to a freind and he informed me that you should see about 13.5 volts at the starter not 12V. I checked voltage at my battery and he was right,13.5Volts.

Hmmm was this when cranking? Because until alternator is charging should only be battery juice which is 12.56 fully charged. Checked your relay on it?

I cleaned off my negative battery cable grounds tonight, and then the car started right up. We'll see if it holds up.

are you talking about the relay that is located by the air filter?

I wire brushed my negative cable and its grounding points on the battery tray and engine, and my problem seems to be gone, too (positive cable was already wire brushed).

Ladies and Gents,

I fixed my "CLICKING!!!"

Thabk you, Thank you, Thank you..

It all started when my starter clicked and then gave out. Got a new one same problem (clicking), but it started with in a few "clicks" then it clicked and died. Got it tested and it was good! Got the batter tested also and it was good! So after jumping it here and there... clicking here and there... With reading and serching my eyeballs out on here.

Testing and trying to fix this problem i found out the problem! Lots of people was saying to repalce the battery cables. I replaced the Negative cables and checked and rechecked the Positive cables. Replaced and cleaned up the terminals.

No go! clicking continued. My neighbor is a teacher at Bosco Tech Auto Shop (so. cal. By the 60 fwy). He told me that i should get a stronger battery to get that starter going. The battery i was using was pushing out 550 CCA (cold cranking amps). So I did and got a new one pushing out 700 CCA!

no more clicking!

:rockband

turned it off... and on 5+ times and they all started on the first try! Left it alone all night and in the morning i had to go to work. Being cold and having it sit there for somr time. This would be a nice last test... it started on the first try!

"sorry for the long as story."

Time to break out the wire brush and dielectric grease. Brush and grease the battery terminals, the 2 negative battery terminal grounds, and the connection on the starter. Be sure to brush both the connectors and mounting points until you can't see any corrosion.

Doing this is what ultimately fixed my problem.
