The bulbs behind my trip odo's digital display blew again.

I replaced them like 4-5 years ago. They actually blew a few months ago but pulling the cluster is not a job I relish (due to a bad experience way back) so I have avoided it for as long as possible. Having recently purchased an MP3 player I need to pull out the radio anyway so I can hook up a cable for connecting the player to the aux input on my Pioneer HU. Guess I'll just kill two birds with one stone... this is how most of the work on Q gets done nowadays anyway...

Now onto the issue... I priced the bulbs with Joe and they were roughly 15 bucks each + minimum of $8 delivery??? Thats more than even our rapist Infiniti dealer here in ATL charges. Does anyone know of a viable substitute for these bulbs? I checked the following but nothing was listed. zerothread?id=167963

Whatever I use will have to be long lived as I don't envision doing this again anytime soon.

...Drew....

EDIT: it helps to read.

You can get the bulbs locally at autozone, but who knows how long they'll last.... I posted the specs somewhere, theyre in the parts book, if you need it again LMK.

Yeah,

I spoke with Joe... somehow I don't think he was looking at the right item.. he kept asking me about the bulbs...anyway he double-checked and came back with that price. I'm not feeling paying nearly $30 for 2 light bulbs here in ATL + the shipping if I order from Joe.

Edit....Go ahead and give me the numbers if you have them Wes. Thx man

The bulbs for the LCD are different than all the other ones.. Theyre 1.8 watts.... Which is probably why theyre expensive....

If we're talking about the two bulbs that illuminate the trip odometer they were about $6/ea when I bought them from Joe a year ago.

Or you can get these from Radio Shack for $1.29/pr.

You'll have to wrap the leads around your existing plastic holder but it's very easy, and you can have them today. Good luck.

Goody,

If memory serves me correctly, these were actual solid state bulbs and you couldnt' separate the base from the glass/filament. It's been a while though so I might be wrong.

The two bulbs that backlight the odometer are the same as the bulbs in the seat and window switches on the doors.

The actual bulbs are larger than the other bulbs. I spent a year of my life one afternoon driving around downtown to all of the old-school electronics parts houses trying to find a substitute... even bulbs to thread into the old bases.

The last invoice I can find is from 2001. The P/N was 24860-60U00 and price was $5.59ea. This was from my local dealer so no Joe discount...

That part is apparently difficult to find in FAST... I remember giving Joe the p/n and it being available for less - but not worth the wait and almost a wash after shipping.

Goody's right; The bulbs can be purchased at Radio Shack (in the little specialty bulb bin). All you have to do is wrap them around the plastic holder (as he stated) and snip off the excess. I've done my dash with them and it has been several years, also did the ones in the door and console as I was unable to get them from anywhere - even dealer.

Very simple to do once you get the dash apart.
