I have a 96 Q with about 102,000. Transmission began to leak some time ago. has been diagnosed to be leaking from a sensor on the TOP DRIVER SIDE of the transmission.

Has anyone ever replaced this sensor. The local trans shop wants to drop the whole trans to get to it.

I wonder if you could cut a hole in the tunnel and replace from the inside the cabin?

The transmission is fine as long as you keep it filled.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Paul

Do a search on turbine sensor in the Infiniti Online Mechanic Forum.

Get the parts from Joe, including the rear main engine seal as you will be dropping the transmission.

Squeefoo has done the tunnel trepanation.

Welcome aboard!

Squeefoo managed to get at his by boring a hole in his transmission tunnel, next to the gas pedal, heheh.

(FarFetched has/had a Y33 - squeefoo's was a '90 G50)

Otherwise, someone's gonna have to drop the tranny a few inches to get at it.

Problem fixed.

I took the pages I printed off the site to my Transmission guy and he drilled the hole in the tunnel. Total cost with parts $495. He had told me it would cost $1,000 just to drop the trans.

Now that the new Turbine sensor is in place the car runs like new. The car use to stall at stops and no longer does. It feels like the HP has increase by 20%. The whole car runs smoother.

That sensor must have a major impact on who the whole drive line runs.

Big thanks to all of you.

Paul

That's the thing that kind of sucks with the Q is putting things in the most hard arse places to get to. Just look as something as simple as an oil change and the smart people at Infiniti decide to put the oil filter in that difficult spot. The oil change guy curse me when I come rolling in with the Q.
