Wasn't that hard to lower engine/susp cradle. Got enough room to get sensor out. If you could see, note a bulge and slight crack on the tip of turbine sensor. Obviously it was sourse of leak as well as lower portion of sensor was slightly loose.

That is how I got it out! When eng is lowered about 3-4 inches there is enough room to get sensor out, just have to find right position.

So you got to it from the top of the engine bay looking down? As best I can tell that's the edge of the EGR valve and it's solenoid...

How did you support the engine with the cradle dropped?

LOOK DOWN BEYOND EGR - WHERE ENGINE MATED TO transmission HOUSING ( SMALL HOLE) It is an in and out operation. You get ready to lower engine, lower it with platform floor jack(transmission jack low profile), get sensor out, install new one, raise engine up bolt it down and you all done at this point. I should take you 15-20 min to perform entire swap. That is besodes the whole preparation to lower the engine. You have to make sure that nothing is binding or stretching. Radiator needs to com out, condenser has to be unbolted (unless you want to loose your A/C) EVAP canister has to be out, P/S hoses (attached to cradle) have to be undone. Transmission mount need to be loose, exhaust brackets need to be loose as well. So lots of prep time to do 20 min job. It is a lot easier than R+R transmission. INSPECT EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU LOWER ENGINE - OR DAMAGE MAY OCCURE! Cheers!

Actually I don't either... Used "Paint" to draw the arrow and "Microsoft Photo Editor" to lighten the picture by adjusting the "Gamma" whatever the hell that is...

That Gamma adjustment has gotten a lot of work done for me. Part of my job is driving by pre-foreclosure houses and taking pictures of them - and the last one on my list always seems to be a race against the sunset... If there's any light at all I can pull a decent picture out of it with that adjustment...

Don't feel bad. Me too.

How long did it take overall, since I just wimped out and bored a hole in the trans. tunnel above/next to the gas pedal.

The whole prep time was about 3-4 hours!Pulling T-sensor out and installing new on took me 10-15 min (including routing the wire back to connector). When I work in my garage, I am so lazy it's beyond belief. I would do it again. I enjoyed that When I mentioned that I did T-sensor w/o pulling trans out during my last vesit to Infiniti of Kirkland, my service rep had her eyes like 2 Silver dollar coins!I would really enjoy working on LUX cars(Infiniti and such). But I also enjoy diesel engines, even more then gasoline siblings!

Gotta say I am not missing the earthquakes in WA, but FL is just too flat.

Got it replaced today. I could not believe, the rodents who ate the KS wires have also tried to chew on the TS wire and almost got it. The harness by the sensor had only few threads left!

I just thought that I'd say that I also have bored a hole thru the firewall/transmission tunnel to get the sensor out. I was originally going to lower the transmission like the book says in-order to get the sensor out but after looking at the header flange studs I decided to go the other route because I didn't want to have to go looking for another set of exhaust manifolds due to broken studs. I ended up pulling my driver seat, carpet, and dash out to get access to the floor so that I could cut a hole to access the sensor. I am still waiting on the parts to come. I have been working on this for about a week and it's funny that this particular issue as popped up here just after I started working on mine. I did a search on the forum for the turbine sensor but couldn't turn anything up on it. That is before I saw these rescent posts. What I'd like to know is what causes that sensor to crack the tip of the cap. I disected my old one and didn't find any moving parts. It appeared to be just a steel rod in the center surrounded by a spool of copper wire. I tried to see if the rod moved in and out but it didn't budge. I figured that the spool of wire must energize the rod to act like a magnet. That is all I can think of

Does anybody know exactly what this sensor is supposed to do? I am waiting on parts but I am thinking about just taking apart the old one and just use the top part of it as a cover for the hole and reassemble the car so that I can drive down to Zephrhills for the weekend because the parts will not arrive until the 6th of Feb and I am suppose to leave on the 4th.
