Nate - I didn't realize you were pushing that kind of HP... my bad.

I just don't think the composition of the tire (drag vs reguar) will overcome the fact that they're just too darn skinny for the power you're subjecting them to.

Another solution that worked for me (back in the day)... I wanted my 68 GS to look stock, so I had my rear rims lathe-turned and added 2" to them.... The monster rear tires fit just dandy then. :D

camaro SS has a 275-40-17, as does the ws6 trans am. The Z28 runs a 245-50-16.

they also use **** for tires out of the factory. AZ is right about the speed testings....just because a tire has a Z, H, V, etc speed rating doesnt really tell you it will be predictably stable in a certain condition. Usually the more reputable the tire mfr, and the higher the rating(to an extent) can help with that. My pirelli's are Y rated(186mph if I remember right, might be 172...), the highest current rating of a tire for a "speed rating" but has a kevlar carcass and other features that make it more than stable at high speeds. Compare that to a lesser tire, same speed rating, the compound may melt after exposure to cornering at 80mph(blistering) or other anomoly...

OK. rant over. Also, the nitto drag radials really get slick after heating them up, so I wouldnt reccoment them. Get a nice sticky street tire and learn to laucnh your car you'll be fine. I know more than a few guys running 225-50-16 tires with 250hp+ and they can hook up at the track...just takes some good driving. If you really want a drag tire, check out the BF goodrich G-force drag radial, its pretty nice..-chet

Chet...the BF Goodrich is the one I'm thinking about ;) (About the SS tire size...I was just trying to pull that out of memory, I didnt look it up, I'm suprised I got that close!) I might just do it too...if I cant find some good cheap rims. AZ...I'm not pushing that much power yet, but after the debacle with the CA I've put down a deposit on an RB25 and it should be here sometime within a month or so...and leftover I have enough money for an intercooler, exhaust, and most of the basic bolt-ons...I have heard varying things but I think I'll have at least 250hp to the ground, although possibly not a lot more (I'm trying not to overestimate things here :)) I really wish I could do a 5 lug conversion and go with some nice 300zx wheels to retain at least a factory nissan appearance, but those 5 lug conversions are friggin expensive, I might as well buy new rims at that point :(

Nathan - I have a guy here in town who has several 300Z's being dismantled - I can check on some parts for you if you want.

I'd go ahead and run some 235mm regular street tires for now, and upgrade AFTER you se how much power you're throwing.

You'll chew up those BFG's in daily driving in NO time... :D

I'll tear up any tires in regular daily driving in no time...those weekend 1/4 miles wont be good for em' :D Well, things I would need for a 5 lug swap are: rear hubs (I think only the NA ones work), rotors (if in good enough shape to re-use) and might as well get brakes all around along with the master cylinder...if you feel like asking about the parts then feel free too, but dont feel that you have too...I honestly dont think I could afford to spend more than about 200 on all of it :(

Hmmm. Probably not gonna get far with $200.

Maybe a year of running "el cheapo" used tires will allow you to save up for the swap...

Hahaha...and in that year god knows how many el cheapo tires I will toast...I might as well do it right the first time, it just means not paying myself back quite as fast for this darned engine.

I don't know how fast I was going I had the needle against the bottom of the gauge cluster. I had someone else in the car that can vouch for having the needle on the bottom of the gauge cluster. It was on the Ohio Turnpike. I also don't have a transmission wiring harness after i did the auto to manual swap. I don't have reverse lights. The only connector i have hooked up is the speed/rpm sensor. I bypassed the neutral saftey switch. Nick

Hmm, I rode shotgun for a few top speed runs in an '89 CRX si, buried the needle, and the lil go-kart kept on pullin.. a strictly maintained car...scary, though.

I also rode along in my boss' Z06. His cop buddy clocked us at 151, pretty close to what the HUD speedo was reading...still had some pedal, or so my boss said...

I've done (according to the speedo, that I didn't want to look at) 175 on my friend's slightly modded '01 GSX-R1000. He says he's done 180...To you kids on bikes: Don't do that. Ever.

My slightly tweaked(jetted, slip-on pipe) CBR600 showed 150 when I backed off. It's got more, but why tempt fate?? I'll never do it again, it's just asking for death.

My old '99civic si did a weak 125-126 before I called it quits, felt really sturdy at speed, though.

'71 Dart Swinger with 318 v-8 was at 120(according to the then 30 year old speedo), eager to go faster, but that's about the time I shut her down...

My old girlfriend's '02 Altima with minor mods rocketed to 130 before I begged her to slow the F down!! Women+cars=buckle up.

Last but not least, my '72 Bronco 302 v-8, 3speed, downhill on a wind-less day topped out at 85, five thousand two hundred RPM on a 31 year old block, with 10 year old internals and heads, every body panel shaking, engine wailing, gulping 92 octane, dual flowmasters barking...doors shaking, super swamper mud tires howling... a different kind of scary.

90 is about my average speed on the freeway with my 96' Chevy Z71 extra cab. Governor kicks in at 99mph(though the truck still has about 2 grand left on RPM Gauge).

My 90' Pontiac Grand Am 4 dr had a 100mph speedo but i past that about 4 years ago in the desert late at night. Was scared as hell so i backed off(19 years old and was still learning about how a car feels on the road).

My 93' Pontiac Grand AM GT had a 120mhp speedo, but the governer would kick in around 112mph. At around 4600 RPMS. Redline was 7k, and she felt solid. I swear it would have been good up to 140 or so.

My friend's 95' Prelude SE we use to peg at 130. Felt pretty solid too.

My dad's 69' Corvette he got up to 148mph years ago before he chickened out. haha Can't blame him

Corvettes are fast. I definetly have respect for them. I just don't think they are all that comfortable or have good visibility. My dad has an 85, 86 and 88 vettes now and it is fun every once in awhile to turn them loose.

I hit the limiter coming out of fourth one time. Stalled the motor. Put it in fifth and barked the tires as the motor was jump-started. Of course I didn't realize it at the time. I wasn't sure exactly what happened until after the fact when I was saying, "WTF just happened there?" Just thought I'd share.

I went about 150 in my Vulva 760 Turbo one time coming down I-95. Not sure how much faster it would go, I had to back off when I thought about how long it would take that big *** heap of steel to stop. Gotta love german engineers.

158mph indictated on the RevSpeed....The 180 cuts out at 180KM's. We were going fast enough to drift turns I normally take with my Skyline at over 100mph. It was very (un)nerving not to be driving. Trust isn't my strong suit.

I whole-heartedly agree.. I feel much better when I'm behind the wheel, and i can feel the road and control my car better then sitting in the right seat...

Well might as well throw in my .02 My last tuned car was a 91 Si Vtec prelude in Japan I would hit the 9000 rpm rev limiter at 167mph. My current 240 has the speedo pegged with over half of 4th gear left. Took it well into 5th once and had to let off road got a little ruff. But I would have to bet this one to end will kill my prelude I had. When I get my roll bars I plan to be trailed by a busa and take it to the limiter to see what the top end is.

Hashiriya13, did you cut that top speed limiting wire? I think it's wire 51 on the harness to the ECU...

Nathan: What I did was unplug the the plug on the transmission and that took out the limiter for me.

JustinStrife: shouldnt be a problem. Maybe on weekend we could meet up my friend lives there in Lakeside.
