Black240, is your decision to not eat meat influenced by the fact that you are Indian and Hindu? well, are you hindu? How do you Figure that your mouth moves side so side? That hurts my jaw!

I don't like meat too much, I mainly stick to some fish and some chicken.

EDIT I saw your post Anand yes I would agree that it is a circular motion.

So is the statement of you being healthier than other people...there's no real way to measure that. I bet I could outrun you and outperform you in plenty of cardiovascular tests or whatever you want to use....but I guarantee I'll die first. It's just genetic. So for now...I'll eat whatever I want, enjoy myself, and hope that I live a full life before I kick the bucket.

Yes, I am a Hindu... But my decision on not eating meat wsa not based on religion. I did however start my life because of the cultural/religious reasons but once I grew up and could think for myself, I made a choice of not eating meat. There is not one peticular reason as to why I don't but a combination of many...

moral/ethical/...yada yada... for a very minor religious factor as well but not much at all.... but mainly because I have gone this far without it... why start now!?!?

there is nothing that can convince me that I should start right now... *as of yet*

I mean... If lets say I got some rare desease or something and that required me to eat fish or something liek that, then I would probably eat it... but it just doesn't entice me at all...

ya kno?

Absolutely! I have no agruments for that at all... but, that's it.. that's exactly my point... I'm not saying that not eating meat is healthier than eating meat... I am just defending not eating meat... and still being healthy...:)

Why start now? Nobody said you had to start....I just think it's stupid and ignorant to go through life without trying new things. I can't stand to not have new experiences. That's just plain ridiculous...what's the point in living if everything you do is the same everyday?

no one mentioned soy?

soy is a better source of protein than pretty much any other natural source, meat or vegetable...

soy protein is much healthier overall

trying something new does not mean I have to start eating meat.... There are hundreds of different foods I can have from all over the world and still be a vegitarian...

SO are you telling me that you will eat a roach.. ant... and insect that is cooked for an experience?? in fact... will you eat everything and anything then??

yea experiences are good but you still have to draw limits to it.. you can not be limitless...

You can try :D

But how many people around you are eating roaches, ants, and insects and saying....damn this is GOOOD! You have GOT to try this. That would make me too curious.

The more time I spend reading Anand's posts, the more I like the guy. More power to you for sticking to your guns. :D

Besides, have you guys seen pics of the guy? He's obviously in great health. SBG's in da house! :D

I've become a chicken and tuna addict of late, basically because my body seems to have a high nneed for protein. I'm also trying to cut out SOME of the carbs, as I recognized that almost 50% of my diet was carbs - I love 'em. Although trying to eat six times a day when you have such a busy life is a beeyotch. (Work, 2 classes in school, 3 kids all in sports, home improvements, gym time, church commitments, vehicle maintenance, board member responsibilities, Block Watch... AAAAAUGH!!!). No wonder I'm losing my hair. :D

When I graduated high school, I was 6'2", 135 pounds, wih 6% body fat. I ate pretty much anything I wanted for 13 years or so, and I can tell you it takes its toll. In 2001 I had open heart surgery to have a defective (from birth) heart valve replaced, and soon thereafter, I started going to the gym and packing on the size. I'm now 6'1" and 187 pounds, and by no means am I "built", but I am in great shape. During my weekly full-contact "garage sparring" sessions with my buddies, I hold my own (they're ALL 19-27 years old).

The few times in my life Ive (unknowingly) eaten pork I got sick because I was mainly vegetarian. And to expand on Blk240's point about our teeth, if you look at human's digestive system, its obviously different than carnivores.BTW Maine, soy products come from soybeans, a vegetable. I cant get used to the taste. No soy products for me!

It's also different than herbivores. Remember, we are omnivores, we are designed to handle eating both meats and plants. We are a very versitile species :)I get the impression sometimes that a couple people are trying to argue that we aren't designed/supposed to eat meat, which is a truly ignornant statement. As AZ said, we have nice incisors for meat and flat teeth for plants. It's not like people who eat meat never eat anything but meat. We also eat fruits, vegetables, etc just like vegetarians, but we add the tasty, tasty meat products to them :)

And Anand, while I respect your choice I do feel that you have missed out by not eating meat. It is very tasty, and you most likely will never taste it, while I can enjoy meat and non-meat products you are somewhat restricted. While there are many tasty things out there, I know I am a sucker for a good steak or burger. Unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, if you dug into a juicy steak right now you'd probably be sick because your digestive system wouldn't be used to it. I'm sure you don't care though :pface

I too am in pretty darn good shape. I am only 5'7" and 135-140 pounds, but I have good metabolism and excersize as much as I can (but not often enough). I eat lots of meat every day! I am not saying that you say meat is the devil or anything, just adding to what others have said about being healthy.

i'd thought i'd just chime in and say i love soy milk! esp. chocolate soymilk. :D

as far as the link i posted, yes Anand, it's true you can get info to prove a point. and well, b12 is a animal based vitamin that's really important. but like everybody else has said, i respect the vegetarian choice, i just threw out a fact worth considering.

*ahem* and anyone ever been to a japanese restaurant? they have seaweed! it's really good too!(and probably laced with MSG, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms):D

speaking of MSG.... when I first came to this great country called United States of America.... when I saw the line that says "NO MSG" in the Chinese restaurant menu... I was like.. "WTF? Why wont they deliver to madison Square Garden?!?!?".......... it made sense to me since i'm in NY... and yes you guys may laugh at me for this :(

Anyways... Ya Japanese foods are soo good especially the Teriyakis... mmmm and Soymilk? w00t love those too but never tried it in Chocolate...

Soy milk!? I've tried that in the past as an alternative but i think its got a funky taste to it. I am, however, able to recall the days of highschool wherein those lovely lunch ladies used to serve those wonderful soy burgers...I actually liked those things :)
