Hi there
I am located in Kanata, Ontario. The unit cost of the Orange sensors were around $46 + installation and programming. I also had to mount/balance the tires on my rims (and get them to program the sensors to emit the same ID as the OEM sensors).
As far as I can recall, it was an extra $20 for mounting, balancing and programming,
per tire. So $80 is close to the $75 you were quoted, per tire. (To our American friends, yes, we are being taken for a ride here in Canada; our dollar is at parity and the prices of nothing as gone down!)
I had it done on a Saturday, if this helps, at the Kanata (Terry Fox) Canadian Tire. This was in December 2010. Since then, I have swap summer and winter wheels on my 2010 EX without the TPMS sensor light acting up at all.
I can confirm that both the winter and summer IDs are the same. I did so in 3 ways: using ATEQ's quickset tool, Ateq reading tool AND having an independent tire store (Freesbee) read the IDs for me (explanation: I did not even know that CT had programmed the Orange sensors to emit the same code as the OEM sensors. When I tested the Ateq tool on the new winter rims, I thought that the Ateq tool was wrong as it kept returning the summer tire IDs. How could the IDs be the same, I thought? I made arrangements to have others read the codes to confirm. Then I looked at the CT invoice and there was an entry to the effect they programmed the
Orange sensors(NOT THE ECU). Checking on Orange's website, I learned that they were programmable. I then added 1 + 1 together and confirm with the Auto part person at CT that this is what they did.
(incidentally, I just swap our 2007 Honda Odyssey wheels and used the ATEQ tool to program the summer wheel IDs and had no problems. By next fall, the Ateq tool will have paid for itself, at $90+tax a change that the dealer would charge me! After that, it is all cravy!
I hope this helps,
Ice
