Tire Pressure Monitoring System TPMS

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Sounds reasonable. I went to my local CT last night and they weren't familiar with this process (or the cost).... They also said they don't know if the sensors will work on a 2011 EX35.

Why can't Infiniti use a ABS Drag system like some other manufacturers so we don't have to deal with these sensors!!!!

Much to my amazement, I haven't gotten a TPMS Warning-light appear on my Dash Gauge-cluster yet. I haven't done anything to prevent this Warning-light from appearing... so, crossing my fingers! Maybe it takes a while to decide that something is not quite right?

Sorry about the night-time photos... but its getting dark here real early now...

Our TPMS warning light didn't come on for a few days. Great system, eh? :chuckle:

yes, it takes a few days, and a few kms. Good luck. I have had mine changed last week, and had the Orange Electronics sensors programmed to emit the same id codes than the OEM and all is fine. Drove about 400 km and it has been at 7 days.

I wonder why your CT could not programme your sensors....

ATEQ tool worked perfectly on the 2007 Odyssey (well, after a software update).

Yes, it eventually came on. I hope the system is quicker if something ever happens to one of my tires!
Anyways, the warning light is pretty small and only flashes for a little while every time you start up. I might be able to live with it. In some of my past cars, the warning was HUGE!

Didn't you get the Orange TPMS sensors programmed like cdnicecube?

I have a feeling they don't do a lot of Orange sensors -- thus not many technicians know how to do it?

You might be correct Canuck99; perhaps OE has a "how to" on their website. I sure was lucky that my CT in Kanata knew how because this way, I don't have to worry about that annoying bright yellow light. By the way, for me, it was flashing ALL THE TIME on my EX when the codes were not entered, so it was more than a " little annoyance"!

BTW - I am impressed by the ATEQ tool. I am sure it would have worked on the 2010 EX35 since I was able to pull out the codes. What confused the hell out of me was that they were the same codes than my summer wheels! So I thought the ATEQ tool was not working. Bruno, from ATEQ in Canada (Toronto) was amazing. He sent me another tool that reads the sensor id directly from the rim and it confirmed that the ids were the same. When I reviewed my CT invoice, there was a charge of $20 for programming the codes to match the OEM sensor IDs. Mystery (and problem) solved.

I now use the ATEQ tool for my other car (Honda 2007 Odyssey) and again, with the help of Bruno, was able to pull and push the sensor ids into the car's ECU 2 weeks ago. The support that Bruno provided was simply outstanding! It is good to see a company that backs its product. (I did have to update software). So far, I save 50$. 4 more swapping and I made my money back (and this is if I only have one car to do, twice a year).

EXceptional, did the warning light ever come on with the Orange sensors, or did your car just "work" with them without you having to do anything? I was reading this thread here and it seems like the M35 can auto-calibrate with used OEM sensors, but there is a lot of conflicting information in this thread that makes me unsure. Also, since that thread deals with the M35 I'm not sure if the same info applies to the EX35s, but I'd be surprised if it didn't. Anyone who can help in clarifying this point would really be appreciated, since I'm now looking at buying either Orange Electric sensors or some used OEM sensors, and it seems like either ones would auto-calibrate, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yea, my idiot Light eventually came on.

After the Car starts, it flashes for a few moments and then goes solid.

It doesn't bother me at the moment... but one day I'd like to get it sorted out.

We don't have any new Snow and it looks like it may be a brown Christmas in Edmonton... so I wish I hadn't put the Winter Tires on, so soon.

I hate driving around on dry Pavement, with them.

Thanks for the update on the warning light. Another question -- I have a 2012 EX35, and it looks like Infiniti changed the part number of the TPMS sensors from 40700-JK00A for the 08-10 EX35s to 40700-1LA0C for 2011 and newer models. Anyone know if they will interchange, or will the receivers in the wheel wells of the newer models not talk to the older sensors? Really no way to be certain unless someone has tried it. Thanks

Mephisto75,
Do you still have the Ateq Quickset? If so, are you interested in selling it?

I'm too cheap to pay for the TPMS sensors. Can I just run a set of winter rims+tires without them? On my other car the tire pressure sensor just lights up and I ignore it. I check the pressure every few weeks manually anyway.

Yea, you can... I installed the Orange brand TPMS units in each of my Winter Rims/Tires... and never bothered to program them. We looked at the Light all Winter... you kinda get used to it.

In another Month, they will be off the Car and the ol' crappy Dunlops will go back on for the Summer, until they go bald... and then I'll buy some Michelins.

Dunlops SUCK !!!

Yeah we discovered how "good" the stock Dunlop 7000's are this winter. Wife went sideways at an intersection and curbed both wheels. $400 to refinish them, ugh. In anticipation for next winter I'm picking up some cheap rims and Michelin X-Ice 2's at Tirerack while the $70 rebate is still available.

CDNicecube I picked up some 18s from a G35 that I m looking to use as my non-winter wheels. I m in ottawa too and i m interested in your experience with CT in Kanata, how much did they charge you for the OE TPMS? Just got off the phone with them and the conversation went from, we dont carry them, to they carry them but they won't work on your car, to they will work on your car but they ll cost $75 a pop.

Thanks

Hi there

I am located in Kanata, Ontario. The unit cost of the Orange sensors were around $46 + installation and programming. I also had to mount/balance the tires on my rims (and get them to program the sensors to emit the same ID as the OEM sensors).

As far as I can recall, it was an extra $20 for mounting, balancing and programming, per tire. So $80 is close to the $75 you were quoted, per tire. (To our American friends, yes, we are being taken for a ride here in Canada; our dollar is at parity and the prices of nothing as gone down!)

I had it done on a Saturday, if this helps, at the Kanata (Terry Fox) Canadian Tire. This was in December 2010. Since then, I have swap summer and winter wheels on my 2010 EX without the TPMS sensor light acting up at all.

I can confirm that both the winter and summer IDs are the same. I did so in 3 ways: using ATEQ's quickset tool, Ateq reading tool AND having an independent tire store (Freesbee) read the IDs for me (explanation: I did not even know that CT had programmed the Orange sensors to emit the same code as the OEM sensors. When I tested the Ateq tool on the new winter rims, I thought that the Ateq tool was wrong as it kept returning the summer tire IDs. How could the IDs be the same, I thought? I made arrangements to have others read the codes to confirm. Then I looked at the CT invoice and there was an entry to the effect they programmed the Orange sensors(NOT THE ECU). Checking on Orange's website, I learned that they were programmable. I then added 1 + 1 together and confirm with the Auto part person at CT that this is what they did.

(incidentally, I just swap our 2007 Honda Odyssey wheels and used the ATEQ tool to program the summer wheel IDs and had no problems. By next fall, the Ateq tool will have paid for itself, at $90+tax a change that the dealer would charge me! After that, it is all cravy!

I hope this helps,

Ice
