I would never tip the bartender. Alcohol prices are ridiculous.Looneybomber wrote:...and it’s driving me nuts.
What is the original purpose of tipping? It’s to supplement the income of those nice ladies that bring us food because they got paid in sexual harassments by the cooks. Also, the accepted tip was 10%. Now, there is a tip jar EVERYWHERE including fancy coffee shops where the employee barely looks at you between sending texts on their phone and gets $10/hr and expects 20%!? Why are we tipping everywhere for everything? Curbside service and they want 15%. No one’s waiting on me, refilling drinks, asking how everything is twenty times.
Bottom line, If you’re getting paid minimum wage or more, I’m not giving you a tip - with the one exception being a bar tender, because the tip is just a bribe for more alcohol.
In comparison, that's the same as other peoples' tips.Mr1der wrote:I don't bother tipping, just shove the whole thing in.

I'd tip extra to AVOID this. Easily the number one irritant about restaurant dining. If you have to ask me twenty times to know whether I'm enjoying my meal, you suck at your job. Also, I came to a sit-down establishment with private tables FOR PRIVACY. If I wanted someone pestering me every five minutes I'd have taken my lunch to an elementary school cafeteria. I WILL TELL YOU when I need something. I appreciate a server who is prompt, keeps my drinks filled, and is around if I need something. But don't ask me how the same slab of halibut tastes 5 different times.Looneybomber wrote:asking how everything is twenty times.

Pooring me a coke is not worth tipping you an extra buck. If I asked you to make something that took an incredible amount of time and cost you multiple lucrative sales then maybe.ImStricken wrote:SMHbigbadberry3 wrote:I would never tip the bartender. Alcohol prices are ridiculous.![]()

It's my prerogative where I tip and why I tip you. Enough said.ImStricken wrote: coming from a liberal that loves to 'spread the wealth' (as long as its not 'his wealth' i guess?)
the one crying about childish insults, results to childish "yo mama" insults.....bigbadberry3 wrote:It's my prerogative where I tip and why I tip you. Enough said.ImStricken wrote: coming from a liberal that loves to 'spread the wealth' (as long as its not 'his wealth' i guess?)
How is that you always resort to childish name calling on here? I'm starting to think your mom spent to much time at the bar when you were in the womb. Back to ignoring you like I do in the politics section.
this post really touched me, as my parents also worked menial jobs when they just came here. i feel your pain bex, and thats why when i hear people not tipping the bartenders because the alcohol prices are ridiculous - it really pisses me off. LIKE BARTENDER SET THE DRINK PRICES??? if someone cant afford the drinks/food - stay home. but damn sure dont jip those you serve you.My mom used to wait tables and she told me stories that really pissed me off. Customers would leave her a handful of change and throw it into their water glass or put some bills on their plates and smother them in ketchup. She had people walk out the door without paying when she'd go into the kitchen for something and she'd have to pay for their meal.
Explain this please.ADDirishboy wrote:When you don't tip, I end up PAYING for a portion of your meal.
Is this normal practice? Seems to be a crappy place to work based on those requirements. That means your employer is taking tip money, which is money given to the waitress for service, as part of their income and distributing it. Where do you work because I won't ever go there......I understand using tip amounts and somewhat distributing it to staff like bartenders but I don't agree that cooks and bus boys should be part of that.ADDirishboy wrote:I pay out roughly 10% per every meal, depending on what is ordered. So whatever you tip, I don't get all of it, only a portion. So if you don't leave a tip, I still have to pay out on your meal at the end of the night, and since you didn't tip, it comes directly out of my pocket.
