'07 M35 in Texas having the issue. I park in a parking garage Monday-Friday, and I use a sunshade all other times. I'm guessing it is a heat issue in my case versus direct sunlight. I'll probably have to get a dashboard carpet to cover it up.

Hello. I've been keeping an eye on this thread for some time now as I've been in the market for a used 3.5SE/SR Altima coupe. I've noticed that most (or all) pics of melting dashboards are black. Do the gray/light gray-colored dashboards not have this melting problem?

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue. Nissan denied me replacing the dashboard. I'm fed up with this issue and want to sell my car but no one will buy the car with a melting dashboard.

That's a good question. I wish the poll had that option in it as opposed to the ones it has now.

Did they make different color dashes? Now that I think of it, I've only seen black ones.

Nissan refuses to change the dashboard. They don't want to take responsibility for it. Good point, most of the dashboards have been dark color ones.

Keep complaining on the NHSTA website and call them too until they open an investigation on this issue. We cannot stop until Nissan replace our dashboards. Selling our cars will be an almost impossible task with that crap melting everyday

The ones with cream/blond-colored interior seems to have a lighter-colored dash. I'll try to find the car listing when I get home so I could link the image.

We purchased a 2008 altima coupe for our 16 year old daughter. It has creme leather interior with a beige dashboard. The dashboard is cracking and melting. The residue is shinny in the sun and is definetly a danger when driving. Nissan consumer affairs will waste your time and leave you with a bill of $2500!! There excuse "it is past 36,000 miles" I call BS!! My chevy trailblazer is a 2003 w/195,000 and guess what "no melting dashboard" this vehicle has 70,000 and has excellent service records. Get your act together Nissan and stand behind your product.. It does not matter the color of your dashboard IT WILL MELT!!!

Dash board on my 2009 Altima coupe is melting causing INTENSE glare on windshield. First noticed last summer 2014 and now that hot warm weather has returned 2015 it is getting worse! Dashboard is sticky/gummy. Unable to see clearly due to glare. Glare obstructs visibility. I have always used a windshield sun shade since I noticed the problem and my dashboard is still hot and sticky when I return to my car and check it. I just filed a complaint on safecar, somebody needs to hear us!!. :argue:

No new information here but I spoke with Nissan Consumer Affairs today. After taking it into the dealership for a 'diagnostic check' and being quoted ~$2,100 for repair, Nissan Consumer Affairs says that they're not in a position to offer any sort of support at this time. Same as everyone else here has said, the vehicle is 'old' and the warranty has expired so Nissan feels no obligation to help.

I asked the representative for documentation on what the dashboard is made out of because I wanted to make sure I won't get cancer from the toxic fumes coming off of the thing. He says that Consumer Affairs can't give me that information and that I need to contact the dealership instead?

I contacted the lawyers that posted here a while back -- hopefully it's not too late to jump on that train. Apparently Toyota had this issue a while back with several of their vehicles (http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Melt ... 80361.html) so maybe there's still hope of Nissan being forced into helping us.

The Nissan rep closed our conversation with, "Thanks for driving Nissan." Yeah, I won't ever again drive or recommend a Nissan to anyone after this whole ordeal.

ps. My 2008 Altima Coupe is in otherwise great shape according to the diagnostic check... shame nobody will buy it thanks to the dash.

I also have a 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe that has a very sticky and gooey dashboard. It's like the underneath glue is seeping up and making my dashboard look wet and also causing a very bad glare on my windshield. Nissan has refused to help because they said the factory warranty has expired and it would cost me +$2000 to get it fixed. Has anyone found out how to make a claim against Nissan? - please let me know - it's becoming a driving hazard.

Yep, that was mine too. I ended up buying a dash cover but it still infuriates me that Nissan thinks this is no big deal.

pixilox where did you get the dash cover and how much was it? thanks! I also sent the lawyer [email protected] an email about getting in the lawsuit but haven't heard back from him as yet. Also received an email from my local Nissan dealing wanting me to vote them in as "Best of the Bay" and I replied back with my 2-cents worth. And this is what I wrote Nissan corp. back after they sent me the letter that they couldn't do anything to help me and valued me as a lifetime Nissan customer. "Thank you for the response and I can assure you I will never be a lifetime Nissan customer again. I can't believe with all the problems everyone is having with the dashboard that Nissan will not repair to keep in good standing with their customers since it was not fault of our own and has to do solely with poor workmanship of the dashboard - it's like the glue is seeping up out of the dashboard. Nissan should stand by the "Great" reputation."

The one I purchased is by Dash Designs and I got it from Auto Parts Warehouse. All total I think it was just under $50, but to have no glare it's well worth it.

Ok so I started the whole process with Nissan about my Altima Coupe 2008 melting dash and they want to pay %50 percent of the replacement cost only.

My car has 100k miles on it, it started about 3 years ago I just put it off cause of reading on here and no one having success. The cost would be $750 for me out of pocket since the repair bill is $1500.

What really pisses me off why can't they just sell us the dash at cost and labor? I bet it doesn't cost them more than 100 bucks to make.

I can't hardly see out of my car if it is a hot sunny day. I live in the Tampa Florida area just to clarify that I am another case in Florida.

that's what i'm so afraid of - not seeing someone or something on the side of the road and hit them/it because of the very limited view out of my windshield. And yes, I live the northwest florida, hot, hot hot!!!! I just can't believe Nissan would let their "valued" customers deal with this issue that could very well get life-threatening just because it is out of factory warranty. Never will buy another Nissan again. I'm in the classaction.org lawsuit also. http://www.classaction.org/melting-dashboards-lawsuit

Great find. I think for the time being, this is a great solution.

I'll check with AutoAnything and see if they'll do something special for you guys.

ALSO, here's an option - Amazon.com has a LOAD of Altima dashboard covers under $50:

Nissan Altima Dashboard Covers / Dashmat

I really like the suede-look ones - Great for cutting glare (we have one in our Frontier).

Update on my dashboard situation...

I park in a garage at home and at work so my car is in the shade the vast majority of the time. However, I've been experiencing the melting for a quite some time now. I started using a Meguiar's product with UV protection and it helped reduce the melting (and resulting glare) when driving around.

My car recently had some issues (thread about that ordeal here) and I ended up taking it to my local dealer (AutoNation Nissan Kendall) and having the BCM replaced. I spoke to the service director and asked about the dashboard; the problem is very well known and increasingly common. In most cases, Nissan does nothing since all of the affected cars are out of warranty. Regardless, the service director tried to get a new dashboard for me while the BCM issue was being diagnosed (which took a week). It was an unsuccessful attempt, however.

My car's dashboard was damaged during the BCM replacement. Because of this, the dealership's service director was able to get Nissan to contribute a new dashboard and it was installed at no charge. The dealership's service department has replaced several other dashboards under similar conditions since they pretty much start falling apart if you are working on anything around it.

If you haven't spoken to your dealership's service department about your melting dash, go do so! There may be something they can do; it's worth trying.

Question for you guys does anyone know if the newer dashes are compatible with the 2008 version?

Maybe I could get a salvage dash from a 2009 through 2012 or something and put it in the car for way less money than if we I were to buy new.

https://motoringrumpus.files.wordpress. ... -dash2.jpg it looks the same from here

I bought my 2010 Nissan Altima coupe 2 years ago. The dash started getting stick this year. Now its getting hard to see. I need to fill out a complaint. I couldn't even trade in my car and minus the dash its in perfect condition.

I followed the link regarding the class action case and have been contacted by the law firm and gave them the information they requested. I recomend everyone sign up for this. I have gotten in the habit of looking at any altimas I see in parking lots to see if the dash is melting and I have seen at least three. I noticed one car was silver and another was white.

I have a 2010 Nissan GT-R and it appears to be suffering from some of the same symptoms that you guys are describing; however, there seems to be a slight variation. Maybe you guys can clarify the issue. This summer I started noticing that the rubber/ vinyl section of my dash would get a bit shiny and tacky. it looks like the "peaks" in the vinyl dimpling are getting shiny and tacky while the "valleys" are not. Once the interior temperature of the car cools down, the dash goes back to being its regular non-shiny, non-tacky self. With your melty dashes, are they permanently sticky? I don't have any of the pooling or flowing that some of you have shown in your pictures. The dash just gets sticky temporarily. TIA!
