They have different part numbers but don't say anything about being able to be interchanged.. :gotme

I need some help. There's so much scattered wheel info on this site and there used to be a sticky but I don't know what happened to it.

I got my H.Techs installed today and am considering 22s. I need to know widths and offsets to clear the BBK, not have to get fenders pulled/rolled, and have the right backspacing to not rub with 4 people in the car and a stereo in the truck, allowing the front wheels to lock on a u-turn.

I'm trying to avoid starting another wheel thread so if anyone has definitive answers it will make my search much easier. I'll be searching in the meantime as I have been for the past 20 mins.

Sdot, if you're going to a wheel shop, any way you can do test fits before you buy? Also, you saying that you have a BBK installed on your car and you're considering 22" wheels for your car? What wheels do you currently have and are you running spacers? You might want to make a new thread for this altogether...

Sure Blanco, if you need anything else ask..but no more part numbers PLEASE hahaha :chuckle:

Here's what I can help you with:

-BBK clearance
The stock 19" Non-Sport wheels have a +47mm offset and require 15mm spacers on both the front and rear wheels in order to properly clear the BBK. Therefore, +47mm - 15mm = <=+32mm or, in other words, any wheel that you choose must have an offset of +32mm or less.

-Wheel rubbing
No matter what offset combination you choose, you will rub somewhere and somehow with 22" wheels and lowering springs. You have to expect it will happen. An M35/M45 lowered on Eibachs with 22" wheels will suffer the greatest amount of rubbing. With 4 people in the vehicle and a stereo in the truck it will rub without question and cause the plastic wheel well coverings to deteriorate quickly. Now that's for Eibachs, the answer for you depends on how much the H.Tech springs lower the M. If it lowers more than the Eibach springs do, then you'll be rubbing constantly on 22" wheels with or without people/stereos.

^Eric, I had a complete different offset figure for the M sport wheel offset... I thought it was 45+ but I dont know why, so when you wrote down +47 I decided to double check it and it's actually +50, also make sure sdot knows your math is only true if the 22" he gets are going to be 8.5" wide... if they are wider math will change. Everything else I agree with...

Thanks blaco, you're completely right about the +50mm offset for the Sport wheels. The +47mm offset must be for the Non-sport wheels. And yeah, Sdot my post up there only applies if you are going for 8x5 wheels.

And for s*** and giggles here's my plastic wheel well after a five hour road trip to south beach with the stock 18"!! wheels lowered on Eibachs and five people in the car. I wouldn't want to know what would have happened if I was riding on my old 22" wheels

^About your wheel well... I've had the same thing happened to me but with (4) people on Eibachs on my 20s and I havent replaced it either... it's $78 for that POS, lol.

Thanks man.

On the 06-07 (maybe 08-09) the offsets are as follows:

Sport : 19 x 8.5 +50mm
Non-Sport: 18 x 8 +47mm
Spare : 17 x 4T +30mm

No you have to have an offset of +32mm or less in order to clear the BBK no matter what wheels you have on, so you would need 18mm spacers for the Sport wheels, 15mm spacers for the Non-Sport wheels, and the spare doesn't need any spacers (haha).

I'm confused but it's ok... NVM, I got it. You're right...

Basically in order to clear the BBK on the M35/M45 you must have wheels that have an offset of +32mm or lower. Of course, you could also accomplish this by adding spacers to a wheel setup that has an offset that is higher than +32mm in order to bring it into the proper fitment for the BBK. The sport wheels have an offset of +50mm so, in order to allow proper fitment for the BBK, you would have to change the wheel offset to +32mm, which requires 18mm spacers. The non-sport wheels have an offset of +47mm so that requires 15mm spacers. For any other wheels, just find the wheel's offset and then find the difference between the wheel's offset and the required offset to fit the BBK (32mm) and that will calculate what spacers are needed. <- Better explanation?

^Yah, your math was right to begin with, it's just that I took the 3mm you forgot to add to the sport wheels and put them somewhere they didnt belong, lol...

Haha I think I started the whole confusion by accidentally giving the wrong offset for the sport wheels up there ^^ :couch

And, like I tell everybody, it is never that simple to calculate the "correct" wheel offset and tire width using simple math additions and calculations.

In many cases, people also like to increase the width of the wheels ... up from the stock values. This means that the tire sizes have to be changed to allow correct rolling diameters, etc. So, the aspect ratio has to be different.

This in turn leads to different tire profiles, so the section widths and tread widths of the tires are now quite different - the shape contributes to the values.

Given the usual "lower my car" work, the net result is that some wheel and tire combinations - for the same exact size wheel and tire - will work and others will be marginal (or not work) in typical highway and driving conditions (don't forget about speed bumps in parking lots!). This leads to tire rubbing in places where it shouldn't and potential highway disasters when at speed.

People need to be very careful about these changes - simple math additions and subtractions of offsets is not enough. :yesnod

All the numbers made sense. Thank you gentlemen :bigthumb: (and thank goodness for those engineering degrees)

The H.Techs are 1/2 inch higher in the rear than the other lowering kits 1.2F/0.5R. There should be at least some margin of safety there. Anyway, I went with those springs to avoid all the hassles that come with the sexiness that of the Eibachs and S.Techs... it looks like I'm just going to have these 19s repaired and resprayed. Maybe a little darker than the OEM silver but not black on black. Black chrome would be nice, but I don't have anything to roll on in the meantime while they get refinished, plus I'm not looking forward to the maintenance.

I'll just wait until I need new tires to see if I change my mind then. Since I have the mod bug and my PA15-INFI was a fail, I'll just do the nav hack if I can find a switch that I want to use.

No BBK (yet)... it's in the future plans, for sometime after I pay this thing off next year. I thought about test fitting at a rim shop, but the prices are so much better online, lol. It would be nice to just know what I want, order it, and slap em on when I'm ready.
