3. WTF does s13 transmission needs anyways? what does FSM says?

i really wonder waht kind of "grease" that mechanic put in there. Really wonder. he didn't even want to resurface the flywheel. Life sucks, but knowledge is power.

ok I was gonna recommend syncromesh, but apparently it's a 5w-30 weight oil. Does the dealer carry gl-4 synthetics?

I ask because for vw folks, they seem to.

Just run redline MT90. It is synthetic with some kind of frictional additive, rated at GL4. Apparantly it allows the syncros to work correctly. The gl5 stuff is too slick and thick and will damage the syncros. Not to mention the GL5 doesn't have the frictional additives that are needed for our trannys to work correctly.

actually the reason the gl-5 damages the synchros is because gl-5 synthetics contain EP additives w/sulfate compounds which corrode brass and other yellow metals, not because of viscosity or weight.

you know i checked the manual, and theres nothing about GL4-GL5 stuff.

it just says 2.4 liters, and thats pretty much it.

how do you konw our cars, ex: s13 with manual transmission needs a GL4??

Because Nissan uses the same rwd trannys in most of the cars from the 90s. The only differences are gear ratios and bellhousings. Everything on these cars are modular. It is in the s14 manual GL4 only. There is a weight difference between the GL4 and GL5. The syncros have trouble pushing the thicker GL5 out when going into gear. Get a pamphlet from redline and read up. There is some really good info in there.

The second gear in my s13 shifts really hard. I am going to try some MT-90 gear oil. I hope that solves the problem.

do you have any idea how hard it is to find stuff like this?

Not a single auto store had it, so i had to order it through Advance Auto Parts. will be delivered on Tuesday. They said Redline is really good stuff for transmission. $8 a bottle.

Can't go wrong with redline. $8 a bottle is about right, you'll use 2.5 bottles give or take.

Ok, finally changed my regular oil, since its winter now, i switched to 5w30 for 3 months.

since i was under there, i started searching for a drain plug on transmission. Dude, there's no freaking hole. Well, the hole is there with bolt pattern, which you can put a bolt in there, but no hole, it is metal inside.

So where the hell is the drain hole??

Here are the instructions to change it,

IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING WAS THERE, BUT UNSCREWED NOW AND IF YOU LOOK INSIDE THE HOLE, IT IS METAL. I HAD A REALLY GOOD FLASHLIGHT FOR THAT MATTER.

Also, my buds made me drive this winter. Looks like i'm gonna have to drive this winter to ski resort and carry all the long *** skiis and a single passenger. I just dont wanna drive my nissan.

I wonder if i should change oil before then?? Its gonna be almost subzero temp out there. really cold.

you need to use a 1/2 inch ratchet in the hole.

what the hell is going on here? my car is up on the jacks in the garage, i cleaned it up in there; theres no ****ing hole. no hole.

its all metal in there. its a threaded thing, wfhere you can screw something on top of it, but no hole, i cleaned it, inside is totally metal. i tried to open it, but its freaking whole metal.

looks like i have to pull fluid out from the fill hole from the side.

sucks, my father took camera with him, when they left couple mins ago. damn!

all right i'm gonna take some pics, asap!

this sucks, how the hell am i supposed to change the ****ing fluid. you can't even open fill plug, its so shut. i gotta rent some good tools.

FYI, i got 92 240SX SE, manual transmission.

240marcuSX,

No pal, Do NOT!!

HERE:http://www.redlineoil.com/prod...ID=18

OR

redlineoil.com and click on:

gear libricants-->synthetic M.T. Lubricant-->and click on MT-90

this is what s13/s14 transmission needs, according to everybody up^ there, we need GL4 and it is a really good stuff. so redline mt-90 is 75w-90 and its a GL4.

So dont buy it.

I'm gonna drive 10-15 miles before doing anything. While transmission is warm, it should expand, and removing plug from warm transmission would be easy.

We'll see on Tuesday when mt-90s arrive.

Excellent, you got the drain plug out. Now wipe the shavings off (its common to have them), wipe and clean the threads, and re-install the plug. It does NOT have to be super-tight. They are tapered threads (exactly like pipe threads) and will seal with moderate tightening. If it seeps, you can always tighten it a little more later.

If you cannot get the fill plug out with a cheater bar, you can always fill through the shifter plate. If you do fill through the plate, you must pre-measure the amount you add. Plus or minus a little bit is no big deal, but too too much or too little will not be good.

dude, that drain plug is not mine on pic above, i found the pic on tihs forum.

theres no way i'm touching my transmission until after the trip. i gotta drive for 3-4 hours to this stupid ski resort. i dont want any problems, leaks.

i'm gonna need to rent some tools too. i dont half 1/2 inch ratchet.

is the pic above right. The one about how much gear oil to put in the transmission. You just fill it up until it is level with the drain plug?
