so i'm at borders yesterday.. looking through the magazines and what not... when i start realizing that every import car magazine i pick up has something on a 240 and it's engine swap posibility.. recently all magazines lately have coved the 240 b/c of the sr20 i feel.. when a yr ago or so you could pick up.. wether it be super street or import tuner mag. or what ever it was... and only see honda's and such...

well my point is, i was turned off by this new popularity the 240 has gotten.. it has probably been discussed in this forum already.. on how this is attracting people that no nothing about the actual car... and dont' value it for what it is.. to them its like putting the gsr engine on their civics.. so yea... i always like owning a 240 for i felt i was in an exlusive club to an extent... but now that it has hit mainstream i feel the good name of the car is in jepordy...

what do you guys think?

I think you are about a year or so late on your statement...at least... Its been like this for a while and only is getting worse from what I hear... I havent read an import mag in about 8 months at least...

When I got my 91 in 97 or my 96 in 99 it was like you described, not a year ago...

Anyway I dont bother with it as I stay out of the loop and only worry about my car, and hang out with actual tuners like myself. To hell with whats hot or in as Ive been into them since my first car the 91. If you feel threatened, sell it and buy something really exclusive.

Edit: also they will never hit honda status as they never made as many and they have been discontinued since 98, thus time has greatly reduced their numbers as well...

well now I feel guilty cuz I got my 240 so I can put a sr20 in it. and I'll be honest, I only learned about the car maybe 2 years ago and decided I wanted one a year ago. I'm sorry if I'm ruining the scene, but realy its inevidable (sp). I try to stay on the modest, sleeper side of the spectrum, but with the increasing popularity of drifting more and more people will look to the 240. but I would not fear too much as most of the honda boys will stick to their hondas and those who want to get a 240 will find it hard to find one as many people already on this board will agree.

EDIT: it shoud be noted that some of my friends are honda guys and think I'm a little goofy for getting what they think is an ugly car with popup headlights.

I'm noticing in big bold letters *DRIFT!* or *DRIFTING COVERAGE* or something to that effect. Then inside I see feature cars with the word Drift all over the article and a great deal of praise for rwd. The trend is shifting to our type of car, i think.

I too am recent to the 240 scene. I never really took interest in cars before F&F sadly, but I love 240s now and promise to treat her right if I ever get one!:D

I think it's cool that people are finally starting to realize that the Honda Civic isn't the end all-be all of import tuning. That there are; in fact, other (gasp) better cars out there. I live in Maine though so I don't see it as much locally as on the net. Here, I am knee deep in Civics and Integras with foot high wings still. :(The truth is, I wasn't even looking for a Nissan when i got my 240sx. I just wanted something sporty. I came real close to getting a CRX with a b16 first. Now that i have my baby though i would't get a Honda except to beat on it in the winter. I think the trend towards Nissans will continue to grow as more and more people see that RWD offers so much more to motorsports (ie drifting, dragging) than front wheel drive. Commence flames.

maybe when initial d comes out all ricers wil want an ae86 and be very annoyed when they try to find one. hahahaha. damn corollas is a ***** to find in good shape. remeber though even though a lot say they will do the swap or wish for one most will not buy one. If al this helps bring the RWD platform backto life then hey let the ricers buy all they want. Maybe nissan will continue to bring out stuff that we want to see and tone down on the FF but i dobt it.

You'd think Nissans would be a lot more popular now since they were represented so hard in F&F1. Skyline, Maxima and what was that other Nissan in it?

hmm well my opinion on this thing is that its a dogma. every car has its ups and downs. when the 240sx first came out, nobody thought anything of it except for a half reliability/half sports car. recently with the experiments of the great masterminds , swaps have popularized the 240sx with sr20s, ca18s, and the rb series. the fact still remains that a lot of young people out there still do not know much about the 240sx and drifting is not as notorious to people. im a kid so im speaking from experience. everyone right now wants to live the fast and furious life going to illegal street races and dragging using nitrous etc. the ideas of autox and drifting are still far from the young mind. also, mainstream is usually ruled by fwd imports. many kids around me want honda civics accords acura integras toyota celicas and mitsubishi eclipses. when you are young, you are more likely to want a car that simply looks good and is advertised a lot rather than a car with true aspiration such as the 240sx. and besides, all the new people to the nissan scene only have read about the sr20. it will take them atleast another year or so to learn of rb and ca swaps on the 240sx. do remember that young people are impulsive and more unlikely to know what they are getting into. i could almost bet you that most of the idiots who will come to the nissan scene are going to get an sr20swap and expect their cousins and uncles to install it for them. nissans are nothing like hondas. in a honda, any larger motor could be swapped into any car as almost as easy as eating a slice of pie. wait til they get to the wiring harness for the sr20. hahaha ricers

Fortunately 240s are still not too popular here.... besides me I know 3 other people that have them. They all dropped SR20s in them though, something I have yet to do :(

I came into the car scene prior to F&F, but only recently did I actually become interested in the 240. No, its not because of magazines, no its not because I feel a motor swap will make me cool. Honestly, its because I was looking at CRX's, and wanted an actually decent car that not everyone has. After watching a few videos at my friends house, I thought to myself "Those cars look really good!" I went home, did some research, and decided that the 240 is for me. RWD, decent stock power, lots of potential, and most of all, creature comforts that I love to have (pdl, pw, pm, etc) I think its a damn shame that nissan is getting so much media coverage. Not only does that make it difficult for me to find a decent manual s14, but it also makes my future vehicle a cop magnet.

I'm sorry if i'm a newby to the scene, but what can ya do?

It was bound to happen. Oh well once I get out of college and get a good job, I will get the rarest of the rare Nissans stateside. A Skyline R33 GTR.

But If anything good comes from this rwd drifter pahse is car companies making rwd turbo cars and not just spitting out the WRX and EVO.

I have had this same complaint but now I feel like ohh well whatever. The stupid drifter wannabes will wreck their cars into walls.:ylsuper

Just love and cherish your 240.

EVERYONE AVOID THE TREND! PUT A RB26DETT IN YOUR 240SX!

Thats my plan anyway...cheaper then buying a Skyline...but I think I will sell my S13 and try to find a well-kept S14 or S15, then do the RB engine swap...

That car on Import Tuner is very nice, but if I were a molecular biologist, I'd be driving a Hennecy Viper or Lingenfelter Vette...WEEEEEEEE! Still a very nice car :hitit

you want a S15!?!? and how do you supose you will get it? and since he is a molecular biologist doesn't mean he is making a lot of money or anything. and he might just be happy with what he has because he has put all his time and money and effort into making this 240 what it is today... you don't understand the whole concept of working and building your own car do you?

Of course I do, but I also like to go fast, besides, how many Hennecy Vipers do you run across in a day, month, or year? I've never seen one in person, so to me it would be unique! I don't know (S15)...I was contemplating getting a skyline at one point, but the price is kinda up there for one of those. I'll probably find a S14 that was owned by one person and still is stock as hell so I can do everything to it myself...and the molecular biologist, trust me, he has a nice salary, maybe not enough to afford the vette or viper, but enough to do all the stuff he did to that S14 plus more!

I jumped on the 240SX / SR20DET bandwagon long after F&F came out. I jumped on the bandwagon long after the magazines started running stories on the swap. Just because something is popular, doesn't make it worthless. For less than $20k, you can build a 240SX that can be competitive on the race track against vehicles that cost twice as much and more. The only reason I wish the swap were less popular, are for smog / legality reasons. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the CHP starts randomly pulling over 240s like they pull over Civics and Integra's.
