Whats up everyone!? I have been doing my search on how creative you can get with the sound system in the 240's. i have a Hatch so the stock set up is by far the worst with 4X6's all around and kinda have to mod some things to get a good sound. My question is has any one ever tried to attempt to put a speaker in the dash you know a (center channel?) i have a 92 so no airbags in my car. Anyone know anything like this being attempted.

comments/ideas/anything helpful is welcome

Why don't you do the 4X6s in the doors, and go to maybe a 6.5" round for the rears. I've got a 92 coupe but I'm pretty sure that is actually what I have is 6.5 rounds in the back. It actually sounds really good with the head unit. Or if you want to do like a 5 speaker thing get a 5 channel amp. OR get component system for the fronts, possibly 4X6s with a separate tweeter and mount the tweeter on the door where the mirror backing is. And do a 6.5 in the rear or possibly even a 6X9 to cover the mids and lows and let the component in the front cover the mids and highs.

my friend fiber glassed in a sub box where the rear seats were. Takes a second to find where it goes, but fits like a lego. I dont really like the way the paint came out but we're going to cover it with fabric just like the floor's. The box holds 2 tens, then he's got 4x6s in the doors and 2 amps under the driver/passenger seat. Sounds really good! Setup sorta similar to a 350z

Hey. I might as well explain an old idea I had, that I may still do.

I was thinking of running my entire audio off a zune or ipod or equivalent.

The mp3 player should have at least 20gigs, and have a car kit or similair features like am/fm tuner and in car charger.

Many popular mp3 players have car dash mounts available making it easier to take it with you when you leave the car.

Route the car charger into the fuse box and when the car is on the charger is on or you could route it through a switch, not sure which is better yet.

Audio signal wired into a multi channel amp and wire up speakers and go.

Originally I wanted to put the signal through a Jl audio Clean sweep until I heard bad things about them besides being horribly expensive for what they do.

I think this would be cleaner looking alternative to a headunit.

Major downsides might include not having all the features a headunit offers. Or if you lose your mp3 player. Just a thought.

thanks for all of sugg. comments. I took out the front 4x6 and installed some Boston (S95's if im correct)6X9's in the front door. i had to mount them outside of the door because it would not clear the window. so i have 6X9's in the front and i still have the p.o.s. 4X6's in the rear. I have the fader more towards the front because if i turn it up too lout the 4X6's sound like S**T!. so no one know's of a center channel speaker for the dash? i may put some 6X9's in the privacy hatch cover thing. but i dont know about that one yet. As for broadfield, i think i may do that

yeah back their. i tried it with out them and i need the whole "surround" affect . I want my car to sound good with atleast 5 speakers. 3 up front and take out the 4X6's and add a pair of 6X9's? Nissan messed up with the speaker set up/sizing on the h/b 240's

ive got 5 1/4's up front, and 6.5's in the rear (coupe), im not big on audio anymore, but it sounds good, espically compared to my previous setup......no radio or speakers (for 2 years), haha. i didnt have to modify anything, other than drilling holes for the 5.25's

at one point i considered installing a system like i had in my 2002 Jetta which was, Alpine CDA-9853 HU, 6.5 infinity kappa components in the doors(front and rear) and 2 12'' square Hifonics Altas subs, ported into the cabin via the rear deck(nearly 5 cubic feet of airspace each), with a hifonics 1500w amp.....i never broke the glass, but i did break the seal between the roof and rear glass at a local show

i put 2 6x9 pioneers in the doors behind the door panel...just use washers to space it out from the window. for the back im gonna find more 6x9s and make a special mount so they fit. i also have a hatch and which has 2 12 inch polk db's in a ported box oh and tweeters up front...im going to amp the speakers soon with a 5 or 600 watt amp...spare battery and dvd player...hopefully ill make a box that takes a little less space but doesnt affect the sound.

Most people put 6.5s in the front. The adapter template can actually be found in the audio section here where you can download and print it. That's what I'll be doing.

As far as the rears, I'm still debating on either keeping the 4x6s or maybe putting some 6.5s or 6x9s in there. I was planning on putting a sub in the hatch too. Whatever though, I think 6.5 components up front and 4x6 rears should suffice. It's really about quality of the audio, not speaker size.

I've done this the only problem with your idea is that MP3 players' output is very low compared to a stereo deck so it won't be that loud unless you boost up the sound coming from the MP3 player with something like a boostaroo http://www.boostaroo.com/

Haven't read much in this thread but i thought i would share my idea:

Well, it sort of just popped in my head one day pretty much. Around where i live most people are into stupid systems and bass that rattles your brain. IMO I would rather have quality over quantity - bass/highs wise. I figured that I would have standard speakers all around (whatever the stock sizes are, i don't really know off the top of my head) with tweeters in the door panels to the left of the door handle but more towards the top of the dash (maybe even in the dash). I would probably go with Pioneer or Alpine being that to me, they are the best bang for the buck, I would much rather go with JL audio because they are simply the best but I am simply not rich. If you haven't heard their speakers then you haven't heard real quality sound. Well back to the subject, with the addition of either Alpine or Pioneer speakers I want to mount a 10" or 12" subwoofer in the spare tire wheel well. I would mount it using particle board over the spare wheel spot and carpet it accordingly with stock interior color and fabric choice, dynomat the inside of the wheel well, and possible seal off the edges with something that would hopefully dissolve rattling. I would accompany this setup with most likely an Alpine deck and amp as well.

My idea has probably been used plenty of times but I still have yet to see it. If I was good with photoshop or something like it I would mock something up but when I try to use that s***, its like reading chinese... It just won't happen for me.

If anyone even bothers to read my idea then please add to it if you have anything worth saying. It will most likely be one of the last things I do with my future/3rd 240sx, but I have always loved a decent system with quality sound.

This is my idea mocked up in a very rough draft, keep this in mind. I am also no expert when it comes to systems by any means.

you could always do a Component set in the doors using the template found here zerothread/183809 and add the 6x9's or some more 6.5s in the rear.

Putting a 6x9 in that hole is old news. Eddie "Inertia Drift" did that a while ago.

Ask him. He's Intertiadrift on here.

He used the wooden spare tire cover to make the mounting brackets.

Ok i had the same idea as you with the center speaker so i bought an alpine center speaker. I have yet to hear it because my car has been parked for a year and hopefully in the next few months will be on the road again so im not sure how it sounds but i think it looks really good and i love alpine. They make good products.http://reviews.cnet.com/car-sp....htmlAs for speaker suggestions if your looking for good sound always go with a round speaker i suggest 6.5" speakers and wouldnt go smaller than 5.25".

Sorry i didnt see someone had already posted the alpine speaker.
