240sx S13 Front Speaker Template *Get It Here*

I wanted to offer something to this forum for once. And I just wanted to help others save some money on their audio system. Here is a template I made and test fitted to my own car. It fits right in. I also tested out the print out and it matches right up to my cardboard template. When you print it will say it will have to clip part of the image. Don't worry it will still print the whole template out. I had to revise it several times because the door panel wouldn't snap in place. I am offering it to the NICO forums only. Mods I hope you can sticky this. Enjoy.

*MOD* Here is a picture of it installed on my car.

Good stuff. I will sticky this if I can get a picture of the actual plate installed or a testimonial from someone using this.

I will give it a try if nobody else gets one up here within the week.

Looks great!

I'd love to do this but I have one fear - ordering a set of 6.5s off ebay for a deal that sit deep and don't fit. (or is this possible?) Like, the back of the speaker hitting something behind keeping it from being mounted.

I love how it looks, I really want to do this!

Is there drilling required? or does it use existing holes?

My template uses existing holes. No new holes needed.

Do not use MDF, it you are getting large magnet speakers it will not allowed you to fit the speakers. It will hit the glass. I look everywhere for the right size MDF and no avail. I found that the regular wood panels (use over concrete construction...) are the right width. You can use MDF, but you will end up cutting two templates glued together. More cutting and more work. Plus you want to use a solid piece template for better sound. Good job posting the printable templates, dude

Thanks. Next I'm going to try to get some 6 1/2 or 6x9 into the rear without cutting any metal.

I just mounted the speakers to the panels and mounted them to the doors. Nothing at all behind anything. Those speakers are 6.5's lightning audio from wal-mart and they are amazing for such a cheap speaker. LA is rockford fosgate's lower line of products.

hatch-attack - Looks great. But the material you used doesn't look thick enough. Does it flex?

What's "cheap"?

The material is almost 1/4" thick. It is plenty sturdy for this application. It's just hardboard from lowes. Pegboard without the holes basically. We used it all the time at the audio shop I used to work for. lbrowne..I was talking about the speakers I bought. They were only 30 dollars and the sound like some of the low line mb quarts I have paid over 100 for.

You can still use something thicker than that, trust there is room behind the panel. And you switch to another speaker with a larger magnet is the only way the magnet will clear the glass......The stuff I use is about 1/2 inch, is kind of tight for the door panel but it fits, and no flexing at all.

I knew you were talking about the speakers, are they 2 ways? They look more like 3 ways...

Speakers I'm looking at have a mounting depth of 2.5 inch - is that ok? Clearance would be good?

This seems like a great idea, but wouldnt you have to cut a bigger hole in the door panel and put a new grill over it or something. Does anyone have pictures of that? Maybe i just have no idea what im trying to say its too early

Yea this is funny....I did this not too long ago out of galvanized steel. Then I rubber coated to prevent any rattle. Then about 3 weeks later I saw the same thing on Ebay for like 50 bucks. I was like what the hell. I used the pioneer 3 ways and had no clearence problems. well later fellas

Yeah you should be fine with 1/4" material if your depth is only 2.5" If it hits the window then you know that it's not thick enough. Yeah man just 35 dollar wally world 3 way speakers and I'm fn happy as can be.

how much better do these speakers sound. I just installed 4x6 infinity reference speakers... theyre quite nice compared to the stock 15 year old crap i had in the car initially...

I wonder with these adapters, do the speakers get mounted properly under the door cover? Or do they stick out of the cover. I want to retain the stock look of the door cover... I've seen one guy install 6.5 or something bigger I forget what he had, and his speakers were sticking out of the door cover (like the black plastic piece that says active speakers was gone).

I did the template today for the fronts and installed 4 of the same Lightning Audio Wally World speakers that hatch-attack has. What an incredible upgrade from my rotted stock speakers - only $80 for all 4 corners! Totally stock look with the template.

The Lightning Audio speakers really do sound 90% as good as high end 6.5"s for less than half of the price. I believe the mounting depth on them is 2". I mounted them on 1/4" plywood (Lowes was out of hardboard), and there is plenty of space for the window.

Props to danger69 and hatch-attack!

I hope you are aware that this template is way too small compared to the factory one. I made one the other day and it was not even the right size. You might want to resize it, bro.

NM......... I figured it out.... Some of my wires behind the stereo in the middle console were crossed which kept my speakers from working . I didn't even have to use those stupid door amps. I also used some thick plastic that I got from ACE hardware to cover the back speakers so that when it rains there's no chance it'll get on my speakers and short em out.... Here are some pix.

so how big of a speaker can you go and retain the stock door panel with out modding it? Or is it just a matter of depth?

Does the door panel sit flat over your guys speakers that are already done?

my friend has mananged to put 6x9s in the doors. but they are over the stock grill.

theres nothing bigger than 6"
(besides for 6x9s which are too big anyway) so i wouldnt worry about it
