Well everybody else has their own build thread...figured I might as well make one for myself.

It's nearly been one full year since I started taking the car apart. It started mostly from boredom, since I was stuck at home with 2 weeks medical leave. Here's what my setup consisted of back then:

Engine

* S14 SR20DET * Wiseco 87mm 9.1:1 pistons * Eagle rods with ARP rod bolts * ACL bearings * Balanced and blueprinted * Apexi metal head gasket * Alamo Autosports street port w/radius valve job * Supertech 1mm oversized valves * Supertech dual valve springs w/titanium retainers * New OEM valve guides * HKS 272/264 Step 2 camshafts * HKS Twin Power DLI * ARP head studs * Greddy RSPL intercooler * Greddy intake manifold * Greddy pulleys * Greddy high capacity oil pan * S14 SR20DE throttle body * Peakboost exhaust manifold and downpipe * Garrett GT3076R .63 * Tial 38mm wastegate * Full 3" exhaust

Fuel

* Apexi Power FC D-Jetro * Bosch 040 fuel pump * Aeromotive fuel filter * Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator * SS feed and return lines * Nismo 740cc injectors

This setup produced right at 460whp @ 20psi.

Starting to take stuff apart...

Heater and air conditioning? Bah! I don't need you!!!

Windshield wipers? Adios!!!

Sunroof assembly? Bah! I don't need you either!!!

Kognition carbon sunroof plug? Yes please.

So last May I picked up Greddy's new, redesigned 1-piece intake manifold for the S14 SR. The new piece replaces both the upper and lower plenums, unlike the older model, which only replaced the upper manifold.

The new manifold also now allows the use of top mount fuel rails and injectors for the S14 SR. I will be using 4 x RC Engineering 1200cc injectors.

And after I had the manifold ceramic coated.

Teaming it up with a S14 SR20DE throttle body that I had bored and electroplated. 65mm in diameter, with all the stock sensors.

I will also be trying out Gizzmo's phenolic intake manifold gasket.

You can see how much thicker it is than the stock gasket.

Whoopsie! Looks like the new intake manifold doesn't like where the fuse box sits. Adjustments will have to be made to fit a cold pipe.

And adjustments were made.

The fuse box now sits where the heater core used to reside. Perfect!

So I started an email conversation with Geoff from Full Race about how he needs to make a T4 twin scroll manifold for me. I told him cost was no object (jokingly, of course). So he tells me they are already in the development stages of a new twin scroll manifold for the SR that uses dual wastegates, unlike the current single wastegate design. "Can I get it flanged for a T4?" I ask.

Geoff =

So 3 months later, this arrives at my doorsteps.

Followed soon after by it's slutty friend, Mr. T4 GT35R.

And a couple of Tial 44mm wastegates and a Tial BOV, just for good measure.

After the manifold and compressor/turbine housings received some high temp ceramic coating.

Sweeeet!

Now...to test fit everything...

Everything is so tight! But not the 'good' kind of tight, haha.

Mr. Sharpie shows us where we need to hammer/bludgeon the shock tower into being more submissive.

Yank the motor to allow easier access to what we need to modify and lay down a fresh coat of paint.

And now...looks so pretty!

The more I read up about it, the more like it seemed the Power FC just plain had trouble controlling injectors over 1200cc.

So...I had to pack up the PFC, and mail him to his new home.

And replaced him with a new AEM EMS and AEM injector driver.

The Power FC was a great tuning tool, but I'm excited to see what kind of power we can extract with the AEM.

And now, for some more "cosmetic mods" I've been planning/doing...

Picked up a set of Bride Vios III's with the LF type brackets.

I miss my leather S15 seats already. The Bride seats are nice, but I had to drop down from a 34 waist size, to a 32 waist size, in order to comfortably fit in them.

Took a few of the parts to my paint guy and had him spray them with House of Kolors mystic paint. Had the wiper and radiator shrouds done, along with the carbon sunroof plug and my Tomei plug cover.

All my couplers are custom done purple by Samco. These little @#$%'s took FOREVER to make!

Had my Greddy fuel rail and pulleys anodized purple, instead of the Greddy Blue.

I'm going for a specific look with all the purple and mystic covered stuff. Don't know how it will play out yet, but hopefully it looks good and not too tacky.

Also picked up a set of Supermade clear lenses and installed them on a set of JDM zenki housings. Painted the inner housings a flat black. Debated on whether I should try some more of that mystic paint in the lenses, but decided to pass on it.

Howzit man, Im currently busy with my rebuild and Im looking at the same type of mods that you got.

The turbo and manifold setup you had with the car making just over 400whp. How was the turbo reaction time? Loads of lag? When was it full boost?

Definitely more lag than the stock T28. It would hit 20psi at right around 5000rpm, depending on which gear I was in. The intake manifold, cams, and head work didn't help any, haha.

I'm hoping this new twin scroll setup will spool similar to my old setup. If it does, I'll consider it a big plus.

If you ant to keep spool time low, you need to keep the stock IM, get a larger TB and lower duration/lift cams... This will help you spool the turbo, but it will also keep you from making the huge numbers up top. It's not a big difference in power up top, but it's def noticeable.

I'm keeping my stock IM although it is getting extrude honed as we speak. I'll be putting a 60mm TB on it and am running 264 10.5mm lift cams. I could've ran 12mm cams, but then again that takes away from spool time. I'm shooting for about 400rwhp on a dyno dynamics, so I should see significantly more on a traditional dyno. I want a streetable, minimal lag car, with alot of power under the curve and I think my setup will give that to me.

As spanish said, this isn't his daily, so he's building it to make huge power without sacraficing anything. I'm going to keep mine as my daily for now, and that was the best compromising I could do.

Spanish, I think you'll see slightly more lag with that big of a jump in turbo sizes. Especially going T4 housing, but man that thing will flow once it's in the zone.

bro, shouldve looked into bosch 1000cc injectors before getting the injector driver... those high impedence and as far as all of the reviews ive read these are the latest and greatest... not to mention that you wont have to wire anything up except for the connectors themself....

Got rid of my 18" Work wheels and picked up a set of these:

17x9 +15 and 17x10 +20 SSR Professor SP1 wheels.

And with the tires that I hope will hold 600whp...

Mickey Thompson ET Street radials in 275/40/17.

I'm not sure of the exact difference including the tires, but with just the wheels, I was able to shave off 5lbs of unsprung weight per corner. The car handles, steers, and accelerates much crisper than when I was rolling with the Work wheels.

They don't look white as hot, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make.

Thank you kind sir. Yes, I'm eagerly anticipating getting my purdy lady back on the road again.

Shoot me an email when you're ready to pick up an AEM. I can get them for a pretty decent price.

Spanish the wheels look nice, although they would be much sexier in 18's. I understand why you did it though.

Are you going to remove the Fast Idle Cam from the throttle body? I think you should, you won't need that on there especially running the AEM and it not being a DD.

Yes, I agree with the 18's looking better. Like I said...sacrifices.

Is there anything to be gained from removing the fast idle cam, besides just aesthetics?

Cooler intake temps. The fast idle cam has coolant flowing through it all the time, heating up your TB. Small gain, but well worth it, every pony counts.
