After the 5k in mods, let's see how long it takes the skyline and the escalade to get seven people and some other crap from one place to another.

Or, let's see how long the Skyline holds up to hauling a camper, or a boat.

Jealousy has nothing to do with it. Cars that are only good for a drag get boring after day 2. If it can't handle a decent corner, I don't give a s*** about it.

As far as carrying loading up 7 people and gear inside I can't think of 7 people I'd be willing to travel with all cooped up in a car with for any length of time, much less schlepp their belongings around as well. If I need to carry stuff I've got an Xterra and a trailer, if I want to go fast (well, sort of) I've got the Z- I'm not confused about the purpose of either vehicle.

But let's flip the test from cargo to cornering, I bet all the people that want to tout the carrying capacity of the Escalade tend to shut their beaks when you start taking about roads that aren't straight. Hennessey needs to use a 2012 GTR (with launch control) in the test too and see how that goes.

Once again, even without considering the two decidedly different purposes of the OEM vehicles, we're comparing an OEM vs a modified vehicle. Apples and oranges. Maybe Nala can explain it to some of you between fares. I think he's using an Escalade. ;)

The 2012 GTR is in the top 5 best handling and quickest production cars on the road...I'd rather have that than a really fast grocery truck.

Hennessey's had a hardon for the GTR ever since it came out - Notice everything he builds, he tests against a GTR?

Nutswinger indeed.

However, the point is, it's pretty damn cool to be able to build an Escalade that'll accelerate like that. Way cool.

Well, there is that and the fact that Hennessey does some GTR tuning too. After the Viper rift I'm actually pretty surprised they're not knocking the snake's d!ck in the dirt.

Agreed - it's cool, but I'd rather see a test against something of a similar style, like say, a Cayenne Turbo S.

Of course that wouldn't even be close. :chuckle:

And I'd really love to see some towing demonstrations.

Yeah, that Cayenne would get pimpslapped.

I was test-driving a new FX45 (first week they came out) with a customer at the Infiniti dealer... lots of high-end car dealers in the area, and some toolbag in a Cayenne happened to get stuck at the same stoplight as us. Guy was like, "What is THAT?" I told him, "Faster and less expensive than that POS."

My customer dusted the guy to 100 on Scottsdale Road, drove back to the dealership, and signed the papers (I think he traded in a Rover or something).

Its like bragging you beat Lance Armstrong at a break dancing competition. Yeah, dude is good with his legs.... but he is not a dancer.

I still maintain that 95% who obsess over drag racing only do so because while there can be skill involved, it is very easy to pay money for a car that will do all the work for you when you just have to put your foot down.

Oh, for f*** sake.

If I had titled this, "OMG ESCALADE PWNS GTR IN EVERY TEST!!!!111!", then you guys would have an argument.

I didn't.

Pull your heads out and pay attention to the issue at hand. In fact, ignore the chump in the GTR completely. The point, which keeps getting missed, is the 1,000-hp Escalade hauling a$$.

Yeah, that was fail on a nearly incomprehensible level.

It's not like he can hide out, either - that car kinda stands out.

I'd have just kept right on going, out the gates, straight to my garage... Actually, I wouldn't have done something that dumb in the first place.

Because you've never been to a drag strip?

There's actually 2 levels of fail:

The GTR driver rolls right through the waterbox. Dumb, since he has no need for a burnout, and water will just F up his launch.

Then, they're not even staged at the tree. When he sees / hears the other car start HIS burnout, he launches (10 car lengths behind the starting line).

Oops.

Love you, Greg (though I am saddened you think I'm that slow)

Also, I saw this the other day on Jalopnik (I think). At what point do Hennesey-modified cars get played out? What car hasn't he modded to put down insane HP numbers? Granted, it would make for a decent sleeper, but I'd still take a minivan if that's what I was going for.

^ This.

Next time when you watch the video, just put your hand on the screen to cover up the GTR. Then you will be like..

"ZOMG!!#!!*! How did that Escalade accelerate that fast! What a great video! Thanks for sharing!"

lol at dumb driver.

I guess I see your point tho Greg. A truck being as fast as GTR is somewhat impressive. I would just rather be lighter and lower aka in a car. I would still like to see numbers for the Caddy tho..

This is why I dont particularly like drag racing. Its fun but for only a few seconds. Id rather road race and be dippin around all the time, taking turns quickly and hitting the brakes hard from 100+ mph thru a turn. Sometimes I think who ever has more money to dump in parts and tune is faster (for the most part but not ALWAYS true), because all you are doing is going in a stratight line for 1320 feet.

Uhhh, those aren't fast.

If you've never driven something that pulls the front wheels off the ground and plants you in the seat so hard you can't breathe normally, you'd probably think so.

I prefer road racing. But a 16-second car bores me, IDGAF *how* well it tiptoes around cones.

Nice try tho.

Look at it from a slightly different perspective. Imagine GT-R like acceleration like that but carrying 5 passengers, luggage, and beer. Can't do that in a Gt-R. Is it worth the money? To a few folks, yes. To most here at NICO, no. But you have to admit its pretty over the top wild to have a 3 ton SUV with that much power. And that's the point.
