oh c'mon.. you think your favorite rapper's favorite rapper hasn't once used other people's lines, hooks, rhymes before? I mean, you go around saying this and that throughout the whole thread, not sticking to one argument and flying with whatever you got... then you bring up Gillie (probably finding out later after I told you to research)... you get all that hate from Gillie or something? I know that foo has a thick book of hate on wayne and a lot of other rappers out. Gillie's resentful that he hasn't gotten where Wayne and a lot of other underground rappers have gotten in their careers, and has a lot of dirt on everyone. A lot of other rappers base their hate and beef on the same subject. It aint nothing new. You think I'm gonna hate on Jay-Z for all the stuff that Camron's been saying about him? That Jay doesn't write his stuff and all his lines are pure recycled rhymes? Get real man...

but okay, we get it, you don't like Lil Wayne... and you'll find whatever you can find on the internet that can validate that. Jeez, calm down. Its our opinions just as you got yours.

And thanks for giving me **** on me posting 666 mafia and gucci man as gangsta rap im sorry they have a "couple" wack *** songs that even i can agree on.

i guess i really cant be mad at lil wayne for the stuff he raps about. since he doesnt even write his own ****.he gets ghost writers to write it.. Gillie The kid, A. Correa, M. Rodriquez, S. Prescott, S. Carter,L.L. McCall, L. McCall, D. Thomas.

Dont even mention his his freestyles that he does, because there garbage with his cat in the hat mother goose nursery rhymes. I will say iv heard one freestyle of his that had some soul in it. but im not even sure if he came up with it or he memorized what someone else wrote for him.

If that aint enough proof wait a couple days my homie is going to look for the video of lil wayne admitting that he dont write his own stuff.

anyone that's ever freestyled before or still does will tell you that they reuse their own rhymes and what not. I know a lot of people that do, myself included when I used to mess around in high school. just an fyi

I mean, here, I'll even give you more fuel for your fire. Look up Weezy's freestyle on Rap City. He uses that whole freestyle in his song "BirdMan JR" on the Carter. Now whether or not the freestyle came first, or he just used his last verse as a freestyle... I don't know. But that isn't gonna make me hate him.

yes artist have used the same rhymes, hooks and lines. but were not talking about that were talking about someone writing there lyrics for them on albums. you think its one big lie about gilli and other ghost writers writing his lyrics ill find the video on youtube and show you that wayne says it out of his own mouth just give me time because iv only seen it once and iv been trying to search for it for two days. and i didnt just look up research about gilli because you told me. thats old news everyone knows about that.

i live breath hip hop, rap, etc. 15k on my i tunes library and still building it. i wish i could show you guys to the light. it just really makes me sad "for real" how this generation just thinks lil wayne is the best. when there are thousands of other real artist out there that would destroy wayne any way on the mic.

thats not freestyle. maby you and your friends reused your own stuff but thats not freestyle. i wouldnt even ask a real artist that question because it is pure dumb question. " when you freestyle do you use the same rhymes from other freestyles youve done" just plaing dumb.

save your time, I've seen the vid lol.I just hope you know he's not the only one that takes writers though. A lot of the times, producers already have a verse made that they've already intended for the beat, everyone knows that. All the radio rappers have at one point taken ghost writers, you should know that. But to say that ALL his stuff is ghost written is exagerated, and I think you know that too. If you want, I'll pull up ghost written stuff by Guru, Mos, Kanye, and a few others.

thanks for the Wikipedia link! I didn't know I was doing it wrong the whole time!

Do you freestyle? Have you tried? And I wasn't refering to my friends or whatever... general consensus. Look up Reed Dollaz freestyles.. best known in Philly for his battles. I can pull up like 2 battles of him using the same EXACT lines. J Jahid, Immortal Technique, Wayne, Snoop, Cam and the list goes on. Look up some of their sh*t on youtube or like the underground DVD's by Q loc or something... you'll learn a thing or two about the freestyle game. Whether its 1 liners or 50 bars, everyones done it before.

Ever hear Fabolous spell his name in a song before? Similar concept.

best rapper alive is just an opinion anyways. no one has proven it to the extent as wayne has and no one is even tried to challenge except all these people who sack ride underground people that could "destroy wayne".

underground is ok, but theres more to rapping than just lyrics. and then u bring up freestyle rapping, which in itself it totally different than making music.

yeah i know verses have been made up for the beat but not the whole song. and i would love to see ghost written stuff by guru, mos, kanye, and for who did they write it for. not all his stuff but a lot of it has been ghost written.

yeah, I'm at work right now. As soon as I get home tonight or something, I'll post up some youtube vids.

and yah, man, I'd definitely be interested in hearing some of your stuff.

Reed Dollaz is fire if you've ever heard his stuff. Hes a young cat that has a lot to give to the game imo, but his style is a lot like wayne's... IMO, as long as wayne is popular, Reed can't get anywhere. Kind of like how Guerilla black shadows Biggie or how Jeezy outshines Gucci mane.

if rapping isnt about lyrics what is it about. you might as well listen to plain instrumentals and techno with no lyrics and just enjoy the beat. thats what music is about any type of music lyrics. if its not about lyrics it would just be a instrumental with a catchy beat. and i never said freestyle is the same as making music.

let me elaborate on what Anvil's saying, because I kinda agree and see what his point is.

Selling a rap record has waaaay more to do than just lyrics. What sells: swagger, style, credibility, etc. Andre 3000, wayne, TI, and other famous million dollar rappers are unique because of his style, voice, and unique characteristics that they bring. Besides, I'd say like 80-90% or people that listen to the radio hardly listen to the lyrics anyways, you know that.

Freestyling is almost opposite. Clever lines get you ahead.

i agree 100% thats why i say its not rap. its more pop because the songs are "pop"ular because of the beat, and a simple chorus they throw in there that makes the song catchy. am i wrong or just confused

What is rap than? and who falls under the term rap. would you say NAS is the same as TI and lil wayne.

man for someone who knows so much about music and spends so much time devoted to music, u sure are ignorant. rapping isnt all about the lyrics. there are other factors like adrian said, delivery, swag, voice, ect ect. if u gave some of eminems raps to another person, theres no way they can pull it off the way he does. and why is pac considered one of the best in all time? he doesnt have the best lyrics out there. if its just about the lyrics they your a damn poet, not a rapper

and no never did say that freestyle is the same as making music, but u keep brining up other arguments about why rappers suck that u cant even compare. first its hes not gangster rap, then he cant freestyle, he doesnt write his own lyrics, then they are all pop music.

i dont even know what you are asking about nas ti and lil wayne. no they are not the same, but they are all rappers.

if nas and tupac fall under rap. how would you even consider ti and lil wayne to fall under the same category. ti and wayne style is differnt in everyway than nas pac wutang Big L etc. thats the problem with music today you guys get it mixed up with what rap is all about.

Ok I got to page 3 and just stopped reading this. I'm gonna say my .02 cents and while I know it won't matter I hope that someone gets something out of it.

I'm your typical white guy, hell I listen to country music whenever I can. I was never a wigger or any semblance of one but I do have a spot in my eclectic music flavor that is set aside for decent hip hop and rap. Noone can eff with Wu Tang, even though they haven't put out anything collective in forever. You can't deny Redman, hell him and Meth together are an amazing tag team that would simply crush any of these baby wannabe rapper in 2 verses. Tu Pac was a legend even though I personally think he is still alive but that's a whole thread by itself. My only complaint about Pac is that his pre Death Row records stuff was much better.

Biggie was another legend but again he died so who's to say what he would be putting out today. The old skool stuff is by and far untouchable by anyone in the scene today, the likes of LL, RUN DMC, and PE are the foundations of what is out now.

Then you have the non gansta isht like Tribe, Pharcyde and Mos Def, they are the essentials that anyone who wants to get into Hip Hop needs to listen do because they get the job done without trying to front a hard edge sound.

Lil' Wayne has some good stuff but in my opinion most of his stuff is just meh. I'm not a fan, I'd rather listen to TI than Lil Wayne. TI gets super respect from me, he doesn't need to make stupid songs about chicken noodle soup or any of that garbage. hell Bubba Sparxxx is garbage but his stuff is better to listen to than Lil Wayne's

Go ahead and flame me, I don't care, I'm a purist at heart. As far as what's out now the best artist in my book are Young Joc, Luda, TI and Young Jeezy. Yeah Jeezy and Joc are a joke but I like their stuff.

I'm more of an eastcoast rap guy, I like Wu, I like Nas, I like Jay Z, and Beanie Seagel and then rest of them. then only west coast rappers I really like are hell I don't really like any of them.
LeroyBrown wrote:if nas and tupac fall under rap. how would you even consider ti and lil wayne to fall under the same category. ti and wayne style is differnt in everyway than nas pac wutang Big L etc. thats the problem with music today you guys get it mixed up with what rap is all about.
Same as you do with any other music, Nas and Pac are considered East Coast rap, Wayne, TI, and Luda are considered Southern Rap, Snoop and Dre are West Coast rap. Hip-Hop isn't really a definable genre anymore just like Rock isn't a definable genre anymore. With Rock you have Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Alternative, ect ect.

I could go on and on but as I stated in the begining of this post, it won't make a difference. You guys are dead set on your current opinions and noone will change that.

How do you guys feel about Eminem, I hear he might be making a come back next year. For a white boy he's got skills and you can't deny that.

just listen to the lyrics in the songs real close. than listen to the songs by wayne, ti. ti and wayne have a "few" good songs like the songs my life with the game where they talk about life.but there style is "pop"ular. when you go to the clubs do you hear them dancing to NAS one mic. or ti and lil wayne.

different motives man. Nas didn't intend one mic to be played in the clubs. TI and Wayne's club songs were made specifically for them. And they have a very broader range of listeners because of their decisions. A lot of rappers are doing that because thats where the money lies. more fans = revenue

and for the record, I've heard "if I ruled the world" at the club before.

(hehe) Just hard beats with little to no content at all, lots of repeats of 'hot phrases', and generally causes me to panic change the radio station.

I used to love hip hop, the old school stuff. I never got into the underground scene much, a friend tried to get me into it but the beats were to harsh. I was into atmosphere long before he blew up, and 7L/Esoteric. Gangstarr too, hes a mix artist though, mostly rap, some hip hop. Have a deep respect for Atmosphere, Talib, Mos Def, 7L/Esoteric, Tribe, Kanye(ONLY as an artist) Nas, Black Robb and Gangstarr to name a few. Did i leave out Em? Even the last 4 have had some pop hits that are on the boarder line of hip hop so i tossed them in there.

What they play on the radio, and Sat radio under hip-hop, sucks balls. Really nothing more to say about that. If you like it i feel bad for you, cuz your gona listen to it one day after you grow up and hate yourself.

Props on a 15000 song library, sht i thought i had a pretty nice one of 5k. That took me all my life of DLing music to get. From the birth of napster to now. Still adding to it, sht thats the RIGHT of my generation. All were doing sharing files online. We PROMOTE music. So many people would be unheard of and would have never blown up if not for file share. If your a good artist, you will still make bank. /end tangent

maybe you dont like wayne bc you listen to all of this comercial s%$t and his wack mixtapes, but i guarantee you that i have tracks by him that you have never heard.

but with all this said, he is not the best rapper alive, and to be truthfully honest he barely makes my top ten of all time. but he is definitely on the top 5 ALIVE

I know a few people that can freestyle their assses off but can't record for CRAP. Jin is a prime example.
QFT I remember seeing him win on 106 & Park and saying to myself "holy sheet" and then I heard his recorded stuff and was so disappointed.
