i'll believe it when they go on sale.

as for these scion cars...they're made for basic transportation. i wouldn't mind sporting a xB for daily driving. i like it personally. i like it for it's odd shape.

dubstyles240 wrote:these things are toyota echos, plain and simple. They are the slowest things toyota could have made, and I hate them. i work at a toyota/scion dealer in MD, so I've gotten to toy with them. They just do not have any appeal to me, I dont know why people want them so much. TOYOTA ECHOS PEOPLE!

What is wrong with an Echo? Is it not reliable? Is it not cheap? These cars are going to fill a good niche. They come very well equipped for the price. They are slow? Really? That's weird cause Toyota was marketing them as the fastest thing out...:rolleyes

Not everything is about performance.

Kinda off topic...I WANT A NISSAN CUBE SO BAD! Those things are rad. With the Scions out, and the odd stylings of the Element, I think there is place for the Cube.

I wouldn't mind an xB either as a daily driver. Lots of extra room in the back, good gas milage, kinda cool looking, what's not to love? Not like I would buy it for a track car.

The Honda Element on the other hand, is god awfull ugly! I know there isn't that much of a difference between the two, but somehow the little bit makes a BIG difference. I think it's all that black plastic crap all over the element that kills it.

In the end, it's all about the rice. I like the tc for how it looks stock. The odds of these cars remaining stock or slightly modified are slim . With the low price of these cars, you're going to have customizing that looks like ***. TRD has nice stuff, but if you're a young guy paying a cheap price for the car you probably won't be buying high priced parts. I foresee ebay intake, exhausts, stickers and 11" spinners being the mods of choice. I like what the guys in Japan have done with the cars, but in the US...Xa = spicy rice and Xb = box of rice.

^ i totally agree. a cheap car, tons of aftermarket, and APC is prolly going to make up a line as big as, if not bigger than TRD for them. i saw one yesterday at school, black with blue flames. i was like "WTF?!!? is that a scion!??!" my friend thought it was an element. i told him what it was and he was like, "GUUUHHH?!?! WTF?!?!" i think the idea is good. entry level cars with lots of factory aftermarket support. im not sure if i want nissan to do it, but they still need to make a cheap RWD compact. i think nissan should have taken a cue from TRD a while back and started the factory support here in america a long time ago.

I certainly would love to see Nissan put out a cheap RWD coupe or hatchback again. If Nissan were to start a new line of youth-oriented cars to compete with Scion, I can think of only one name they should use: Datsun.

^ wonderful idea, i would love to see nissan bring back the datsun nameplate. hmm, another 510-ish car? or maybe a 200sx?

Or the Cube. The xB is going to be succesful. Nissan needs to man up and bring that thing over. With its 13k pricetag it will sell good, and looks better than either of the Scions out now.

You know I'm so out of that mind set that I didn't even think about the Scions getting some "ricey" mods, but yeah, you are gonna see a ton of those around.

I agree with Nathan. The Echo was downright ugly, but they fixed that problem cause the Scions look good, yet retain all the good characteristics of the Echo.

I know the scion isnt performance related, I just dont like em though. The Xb looks more appealing every time I look at it. we jsut got a set of TRD 18's, but we put em on our Xa. They would probably look alright on the Xb, and if they lowered it, it kinda looks lifted. The xBox would be alright for a daily driver if it was turbo. I dont want to drive something that cant get out of its own way you know?

I'm skeptical about the supra coming back too, even though my sales manager told me, i'll believe it when I see it.

so tehcnologically and engineering wise, we're going backward...

we went from presuing an efficient, rain-drop design that was stable in cross winds, etc to a big box that a 3 year old could have designed...

have you people ever driven an eurovan or the vw minubus, those things change 2 lanes in high side winds, and get **** gas mileage, why would you want one? They aren't fast, their CG is high, and to be blunt, they have all the drawbacks of an SUV without the towing capacity or off-road capability.

proof that humanity is going backwards.-chet

Well it seems to me that you're forgetting about space efficiency. While a teardrop may be the most aerodynamically efficient shape, it is not the most space-efficient shape (i.e. enclosing the maximum volume with the minimum amount of steel) At least not in an automotive application. The thing a boxy vehicle like the Bb has going for it is passenger/cargo room and utility. With the current state of engine technology combined with relatively low oil prices, aerodynamics are simply not as important a consideration in car design as they were. You'll notice boxy, edgy styling has been coming back for a couple years now, as opposed to the constantly-curving jellybean shapes of mid-'90s cars.

seriously, what is wrong with you guys? these things are extremly ugly. why would you even think about driving one of these things? the Ta isnt bad but thw Xb and Xa look like boxy miniature minivans. your dealership put 17s on an Xa? geez they must look like 22s on that. one of the most unappealing things i can see on a vehicle is small wheel/tire diameter. it makes the car look extremly cheaply made. id prolly drive one, but not cuz its cool, cuz it would be funny as hell to drive something so horrible.

Imo if you're going to opt for a box car might as well get Honda Element. Ugly as hell, but very practical especialy with 4wd and Accord 2.4l engine.

I honestly think that toyota is trying to test the american public with these two cars. They probably want to know what they can get away with as far as poorly designed underpowered vehicles with massive aftermarket support. They'll make money either way, and I guarantee that someone out there won't even know that they're driving a toyota...:rolleyes

I just came from the Toyota dealer and the sales man told me that its true...the Supra is coming back. He said "Toyota realizes how much money they are loosing by not selling them because what other 93 toyota can sell for well over 20,000?" He also said "they dont have design yet but they're gonna start selling them agian some time next year......It wont look like the ones out there now but it'll look close to it." Also the dealer will only get about 6-7 Scions a month, i'm planning on getting a Tc as a daily driver cause i still love my 240 way to much to let it go.

As far as the Supra you would think the press would have gotten ahold of this information. Somehow I think a dealership wouldn't know. Most stealerships don't know their head from their arse. Like when you pull up to a Nissan dealership in an unmodded 240 and they don't dont know what it is. Or when they tried to tell me my spec v was rwd. Come on. I like the scions personally. These are styles that have been used in japan for years. Almost every manufacturer has modles similar to it. Some may not like it but I hate SUV's and those things are everywhere. Wait a year and let's see how it pans out.

I just saw a Scion commercial on TV for the first time. A few spots later was a Chevy commercial, and I was struck by the similarity of the looks of the xA and the new Chevy Aveo, which is actually a Daewoo. They have very similar lines.

Scions are sweet. I was actually planning on buying an xA but decided on focusing on my RX-7s instead. ;)
