So you're saying the dude that scammed you is a mod, or was it metaphorically speaking because the mod isn't doing anything against the dude that scammed you?

I just ran into a link to this thread from my own local forum, bc240. I usually hate to dig up old topics, but i figured i'd chime in here, and i also love hearing gaelen horror stories.

NWN/Gaelen is well known for his draconian admin policies, and ridiculous rules. I believe it stems in his own insecurity in himself that compells him to exert his online power upon members of his site (for example, gaelen has banned me AT LEAST 5 times... most of which were for "heated discussions" held either in PM or on BC240, not even relevant to NWN). NWN is basically a nazi concentration camp and a breeding ground of anti-free-speech thinking.

In fact, the administration there is so ridiculous other forums were specifically created as an alternative to NWN's rules.

It is really unfortunate that the site is so popular/iconic in the northwest as the premier site for Nissans, because as a result of the rules, sections like the classifieds section and even other sections of the site are just completely useless. (people have been banned for things like sharing opinions about the work of other shops -- especially if they happen to be site sponsors). The site practically... or wait, flat out does encourage scammers.

I really think the way of the future for forums in general is less censorship/moderation. For example, with BC240 i have a strict no moderation policy. People conduct themselves just fine in just about all topics, except those specific topics where there is severe disagreement (just about always in offtopic, which is rated NSFW). Also, as a result, people don't bother posting stupid classifieds or trying to scam people for the most part, as those who realize will immediately chime in and warn others in the thread.

according to this the mod "helps" out.

i posted something up on the NWN forum asking if anyone knows of a person named this and yada yada help me get my money back and stuff, then i had like 10 ppl respond, mod then deleted the thread and gave me a warning, and i was asking him why such things couldn't be posted and stuff, later then banned me and words were exchanged.

I log onto there daily and never really have any problems. Oddly a colleague of mine is named David Thompson as well, but he's not into imports. Although he is from England. Then again that doesn't really help anything. The Thompson guy around here is located in Portland, not Seattle, so I dont know.
