Well if she isn't whiny and grumpy like every other 13 year old girl then that would be fun.

I raised her...she doesn't whine. She might read Twilight but she also draws skulls and listens to Godsmack. She also wants Greg to build her a drift car.

I got $20 bucks that says after a week of seat time, she'll be driving circles around you, Ty.

With you as her personal teacher, that's probably true.

I've never actually raced around a track with a car though. Done it a lot with shifter karts and my uncles bikes a few times, but never in a car.

There is NO way we will be able to drive 1900 miles without some epics adventures, so we will post details and pics when we arrive.
Well, I stand corrected. The trip was SO uneventful that it was almost boring...cereal. Never once did Priss ask, "Are we there yet" and as for the cat, well, see for yourself...

We did stop in Bucksnort for gas and Memphis to grab a bite to eat with James (Papasmurf). We stopped for the night in Fort Smith Arkansas, got up early the next morning and headed back out. Nothing really eventful happened until we hit New Mexico and the only thing real exciting there was the magnificent pictures I took of the skies. I40 was built primarily on rural land. Not a lot going on unless you are traveling through a major city but a very relaxed, laid back road trip. I took this pic as we were rolling through NM. Nothing spectacular, I just liked the cloud formation.

[IMG][/IMG]

We rolled into Flagstaff late Thursday night and decided we COULD finish the trip, we just didn't feel like it...so we stayed the night there and took our time on the rest of the drive to Surprise. I'm glad we did, because the drive from Flagstaff to Surprise was beautiful.

[IMG][/IMG]

These are just a sample of the pics I have. If you'd like to see the entire album, add me as a friend on myspace or facebook; the entire album is posted in both places.

1932 miles in 2.5 days with a cat, hamster, and a thirteen year old, pulling a 5x8 uhaul......cake walk. Take away the trailer, we could do it in less than 2.

Been planning it for a while but crap at my work & Holli's work has it up in the air at the moment. Here's hoping though.
That looks like one hell of a drive. I wish I was out there to make it myself... It'd be pretty damn nice! Hope you had fun (assuming you already went)

Thought I would dig this up and see if anyone had any plans for a cool road trip this year. Looks like most of ours are going to be by plane (Carlisle, Omaha, and Nashville). However, we are driving to the Grand Canyon in April. The kids have never been, it's been 28 years for me, and my friends are coming out from TN for a visit and going too. Should be a good time. It's only a few hours though, so nothing epic.

Greg and I will be getting a rental at the airport in Philly. You have my phone number, my e-mail, and my AIM ID and they're all routed through my phone. Why would we need walkie talkies? I can put you on speakerphone and take pics of you through the car windows at the same time!

Thought I'd throw this out there. http://www.onebag.com

Not necessarily "one bag" if you're in a car but there are some good tips on packing light, dual use items, washing clothes, etc.

About 4 years ago my dad and I did a trip from the rockies in New Mexico all the way up to Salt Lake City and back. Camped every night and had a great time. Forgot the Camera. Since then I've done 2 road trips to California and 1 to Tennessee and North Carolina.

Personally I love travelling light (and often times cheap!) and camping out rather than staying in Hotels where it's an option. I'm just getting into lightweight backpacking this year so maybe I'll have some stories to tell in the future about that.

Tips from Me (mostly common sense really):1) Road Atlas is back up. I prefer a laptop with GPS software as the main setup for my naviguesser.2) When packing food you can pack lighter (or have more room for other things) if you buy at grocery stores on the way. Duh. 3) For food you're carrying from the start though you can calculate the daily calorie intake of your group and base your food choices around that. Gorp, or trail mix as many call it, can be quite potent if you mix it yourself instead of buying premade. Some backpackers live off the stuff. 4) I like having a radar detector even if I'm not speeding. It helps keep me alert and can prevent silly tickets by cops wanting to pick on out of Staters for little things. Of course you should determine what states they're legal in ahead of time.5) A good spare, and fix-a-flat, and a plug kit, and a compressor that runs off the cars electrical system. Some oil and maybe antifreeze. But you should already be carrying a decent supply plain water to drink that can get you to next town in a pinch (gotta love that dual purpose stuff).

That's all I can think of for now.
