It is for sale. That's how I found it. I guess he's out of town this week, but will call me back when he gets into town. I talked to his mother... she's nice.

According to his add... "1994 NISSAN 240SX Convertible, California car, rare roadster, show car status, collector car, driven less than 1k mi per yr, all pwr., CD changer, cass., well maint., $5,800 obo; (708)349-3654 ORLAND PARK"

Orland Park is Chicago area.... If you wind up getting up here to see it...we have to get together. I'd love to offer you a place to stay.. but i'm 3 hours drive away... so I'm sure you can get lodging with some other NICO member who lives in Chicago.

hey guys, I don't know how we got the info from ASC, but is there any way to determine color specs too? i.e. the number of each color produced each year? Thanks again to everyone for your hard work in geting these cars to the status they deserve.

I'd say we were extremely fortunate to even get the number produced from them.

But, color would be nice.

I tried my local DMV. No go! They say that they can't give out that info to the general public due to privacy regulations.

I did find a company that has access to the information and will sell that info. The guy has Wisconsin and 16 other states information. He said he would be happy to help us out as long as we don't request actual names and addresses... but number, color, etc,... is fine. The problem is that he is "for profit".. He said his general rate is $500 per search. I told him that it wouldn't likely turn up more than 100 hits... he said that didn't matter since it requires the same cost and labor for each search... and having 100 or 10000 hits doesn't change his cost base much. That is per state by the way...

After talking to him for a while, he got on board with what we are doing (he's a VW TDI owner.. and a member of a TDI club)... So he offered to do the work for $300.. But, still... I don't think any of us would agree on $5000+ for only 17 states.

So... hopefully AZ-zbum and the FAST system he has access too will be able to turn up the results we are looking for. *Did you all catch his post on the registry page*... We're very fortunate to have his help with this.

I don't want yall tothink that my asking for colors was me being ungrateful or disappointed in the information we already have. I'm really happy we finally found that connection to get the info. I know the members here have been tryin to track down that info for a long time now. Thank yall again for trackin down the info to get this car recognized.

And this 15,000 mile vert sounds kind of promising.

i've got a question: what is the overall goal for putting together the vert registry. i thought it was just to see how many of them are around, but now that we have the production numbers i'm not sure what the point is. i'm just curious to know.

just curious as to what the next step is. i mean once we get an aprox. number on how many verts are still up and running, is there someone we contact to make our count official? And if it turns out to be a relatively small number of verts still running, will this increase the value of it?

Good questions.

One purpose is to determine, with some degree of accuracy, the number actually remaining on the road.

Another is to have a central database that shows the original options, color, interior and location of a given car (much like CarFax does).

Lastly, is to compile this information into an "official" registry, which will be of great assistance in getting the cars declared "collectible" - Which I have no doubt we can accomplish.

Plus, it's just pretty darn cool.

cool..thanks i was thinking the same thing about the cool part..imagine talking to your boys about your car and being able to say the exact number of the same car that are still in around not many car owners can say that plus if we get it to the collectible status i can justify spending more money on the car to the wifey

My thoughts are pretty much on track with AZHitman..

Getting the total number of 'verts was never my goal in this project. It's a nice product of the work, but not the ultimate goal... That was really a seperate project.

My number one goal is simply to promote the vehicle that I love.

The more people have an interest in this vehicle, the better. Getting people to join the registry bring in new people to NICO.. strengthens the community... especially strengthens the 'vert community.

More awareness of vehicles does a lot of things... increases popularity and demand, increases aftermarket support, brings up the value, gains current owners more popularity and respect, etc...

I'm looking forward to an interactive online registry (like AZ-Zbum's Z31 database)..

This will be such a great tool to connect people.. You could do a search of owner's in your area... organize meets, swap parts, help each other with projects, etc...

Let's say we get an active registry of say 2000 owners... With that kind of support we could call up an aftermarket company and request a certain part... with a list of that many owners, I bet we have no trouble getting that company to put some time in to making a product (say a new boot cover for example).

Look at how much traffic has picked up in the 'vert forum recently. The more members we have, the more knowledge we have, the more fun we have, the better it all gets.

These are all positive results of the registry! Let's keep building. Were still just getting started.

Thanks to everyone who's gotten involved!

Good points, Seth - I'd like us to expand this to include email addresses and a phone number for the current owners, so that we can develop a TRUE community of 'vert owners...

Definitely will impact the value and "collectibility" of our cars (well, those who haven't modified the hell out of them, lol).

I keep checking with Auto Trader and Cars.com ever couple days. there are a couple new ones up right now.

The ones that are up for sale and do not have a VIN, I have not been putting in, as we won't have a way of really tracking them once they sell to someone else.

I agree an online searchable registry like what AZ Zbum has created would be awesome, and honestly I see that cropping up sometime here in the near future.

Besides I'm just having fun with this project.

i've got 2 uestions, and the second has a corollary:

first, are there any convertible silvias?

second, did infinity base any of their car models on the s-chassis? i couldn't find one, but i don't really know what to look for either.

in turn, are there any convertible models of any s-chassis infiniti?

Good questions Dexter..

1.) Yes. A company called Autech did some S13 Silvia conversions for the Japanese market in 1988-1990 I beleive. It is believed to be only a production run of 603 vehicles.

We have a couple owners of real JDM silvia 'verts on NICO. Covert is in Japan... he owns one... Also jdms13rhd is from Alberta, CA... he owns 2 of them... one for sale if you are interested.

Thread showing Covert's car as well as Allens car.. .zerothread?id=109152

2.) The Infinity M30 is the closest Inf. ever came to the S13 chassis... It's not quite the same... Someone else may chime in with more specifics, but I would guess it's closer to the old Maxima chassis that an S13.

Per http://www.autoconsumerguide.com**********************************************************1990-92 Infiniti M30: Highlights

Complementing the new Q45 "flagship" sedan from Nissan's luxury division was the entry-level M30 coupe, also introduced for 1990. Essentially an Americanized version of the Nissan Leopard, sold in the Japanese market, the M30 was intended as a temporary stopgap, until a brand-new model could be developed. Dimensions were close to the front-drive Nissan Maxima sedan, but the M30 had rear-wheel drive and weighed about 300 pounds more. Maxima provided the 3.0 liter overhead-cam V6 engine, rated at 162 horsepower; but it was mounted longitudinally in the M30, rather than transversely. A 4-speed automatic was the sole transmission. Antilock brakes and a driver's airbag were standard. "Sonar Suspension II," also borrowed from the Maxima, used an ultrasonic sensor mounted beneath the radiator to "read" the road surfaces and adjust shock absorber damping accordingly. A cockpit switch let the driver choose soft, medium, or firm damping mode. Like the bigger Q45, the M30 was marketed as a "one-price" model, fully equipped with only two dealer-installed options available: a cellular phone and a CD player/changer. Standard equipment included a power moonroof, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power windows and door locks, a 2-way power driver's seat, limited-slip differential, 4-speaker Nissan/Bose audio system, and antitheft alarm.

Year-to-Year Changes1991 Infiniti M30: An M30 convertible joined the original coupe this year. Convertibles were transformed from coupes by American Sunroof Corporation in California. A standard power top automatically latched/unlatched at the windshield header and also raised/lowered windows at the same time.*********************************************************

thanks for the reply. that's some pretty sweet info. you guys rock! the more time i spend here at nico, the more i like it.

yeah, i ran across an m30 vert when i was searching. it does look really close. however, i thought i saw something that the m30 was based of the skyline chassis (r-chassis, right?). but the m30 vert looks a lot like a vert 240. interesting...

I would have said the M30 was closer to a 2 door Stanza than anything. But it did share a lot of things with the Z31. The motor is EXACTLY the same as the non-turbos. The suspension is also identical.

Almost done compiling the data.

Now, can someone reply to my other question about why they won't post their own VINs, I really would like to know...

I think the ones who didn't post their VIN's mailed them in, so we're good to go there...

Paul's right - The M30 shared a lot of parts with the old Stanza, as well as the Z31.

I will own a droptop M30 someday - I missed out on a 32,000 mile one last December... Grrr. It was phenomenal.

I just got on the forum, (and just registered my vert). Just thought I'd add a couple things.

Nissan definately sent more verts down here to Florida. I stopped by the dealership the other day and got comments from sellers about the time when they had our verts on the lots. Also there are atleast two more verts in my area (Panama City, FL) I see weekly, they're both stock and in perfect condition, so no idea on getting them to register.

And there's an M30 for sale in town, I researched it as best I could, I want to say it's a unique frame, and I've seen some really well done JDM VIP versions of the Nissan Leopard. But the JDM version came with turbo options, USDM got one drivetrain option, N/A A/T.

Also, there's a white '93 vert in a junkyard in town. The owner tried replacing the timing chain himself, destroyed the engine and dropped the car in the junkyard. There is NOTHING left on this thing, but I could get it's vin. But if this is a registery of on the road verts, should I bother? All I know is it's white, stock, 93, and dead, but I thought you might be interested. I plan on going down in a week and seeing if anything is left on it.Once again, awesome idea with the registery, you all are doing awesome work.

we would like to get VIN's even of those in salvage yards, and all the information pertaining to that salvage yard so we know what has become of them. It also makes it possible for people to have avenues of searching for places with parts cars.

Thanks for taking the time to look around. If you happen to see a fellow vert owner, say hello, and suggest that they look at the site. I ran into two guys in a Super Black vert today while in Mytrle Beach for work. They had NC tags. Seemed nice enough and said they'd check out the site.

ThanksDonald

Okay, next run I make to that yard I'll pick up the VIN. I have info on the yard too. I'll be honest with you, the owner of the yard is a jerk, so keep your wits about you when buying off him.

Van Horn's Auto Salvage2137 Sherman Ave. Panama City, FL, 324041-850-763-4000

He also has a 90 se-r sentra with an SR20DE in it, FWD and no turbo, but if you're desperate and industrious you could buy it..just replace the top end.

I'll be sure to point any vert owners I meet this way.

Comment on the M30. Have worked on them in the dealer many times. If I were to place the car in comparision to a nissan product I would say its closer to the mid 80's 200sx se v6. The ornimantation on the engine, the lay out of components around the engine bay is almost identical between the 2 cars.

Hey, I posted my info in the registry, but it might be a repeat, especially since you're keeping track of online sellers, because I bought mine on ebay.
