Since I have installed an RB25DET motor and transmission in our 95 240SX, and removed the original motor and transmission and physically examined both parts, I would say I have first hand confirmation of this information. In fact, I put the KA shifter into the RB25 transmission and it was too small.

Tensioner part # is wrong I think looking for the right #.

I was told by Mack at McKinney not to run Iridiums in the RB25DET. It appears that the iridiums/platinum tipped plugs retain too much heat and can cause pre-detonation.

How about oil for the RB25/20? What weight oil should we be using? I have the owners manual for my RB25 and it list:

0c to 30+ c = SAE 30

-10c to 25c = 20W-20

-10c to 30+c = 20w-40

-20c to 30+c = 10w-30, 10w-40(7.5W-30)

-30c to 10c = 5w-30

The funny thing is this is for all skylines NA and turbo is what the manual covers. So It looks as if the 10w-30 is the right weight for my climate. Over the winter 5-30 may be a good idea. Some of the weigths look JDM (7.5w-30)

Nope that looks like the right tensioner. The one I posted was for a GTR.

But then we would lose important information like this:

IRIDIUM IS THE CHOICE PLUG FOR TURBO SYSTEMS. PLATINUM IS CONSIDERABLY HOTTER THAN OTHER TYPES BUT YOU JUST GET A PLUG A FEW DEGREES COOLER TO SOLVE THAT. COPPER IS A GOOD PLUG FOR LOWER POWER SYSTEMS BUT YOU WILL GET A BETTER BURN FROM PLATINUM OR IRIDIUM PLUGS.

iridiums are plugs that burn more of the fuel in the cylinder, require less voltage to spark, and can spark at LEANER air/fuel mixtures. iridiums have a much smaller electrode which creates a much smaller "hot spot" a copper plug produces a much better spark than a platinum plug, platinum plugs just last longer and thats what their true advantage is. iridiums properties far surpass platiums, as a metal Ir has 2 3/32 micro ohms per sq. inch, and platinum has 4-11/64 micro ohms resistance. obviously plug design and manufacturing process plays a very large roll, (a really expensive well designed platinum plug might outperform a 75cent copper) but that was just a generic comparison. please do your research on things before spreading mis-information, google is your friend. i thought id try to squelch that argument, this is a useful thread and id like it to stay on topic.

I meticulously measured the stock RB20 head studs and gave the measurements to ARP. They told me that the measurements are the exact same as SR20 main studs, soooooo:

RB20 head studs, use SR20 main studs, ARP carries them for ~110 a set, but you need two sets.

If anyone is planning on doing this email me and Ill send you the remainder of my second set, so you will only have to buy one. I got mine shipped from a shop in Florida, took about 2 days and they were awesome as far as customer service goes.

What Clutch has everyone agreed upon for the rb20det ... I hear some websites are saying that the sr20det has the same clutch as an rb20et.

Im using a Spec stage III clutch and pressure plate, but my car isnt running yet so I cant exactly give you any feedback on it :) It did fit fine, and Ive heard a lot of good things from users of this clutch, so I have high hopes.

As far as the flywheel goes, Im not sure if the Z32 one will fit, or if an aftermarket Z32 unit will fit. Id think so, but dont quote me on that.

Rb25det starter:

No US substitute, only came on rb25 motors.

Look for used ones in australia, or prepare to pay Motorex, Underground-motorsports, or RBmotoring $750 for a new one from japan.

You can use the make/model search on sparkplugs.com to find the Denso alternator#. I'd list it here, but it varies by year. If you would like the Nissan OEM#, just let me know what the Denso pt# is and I can cross it for you.

For search purposes only: BOV Blow off valve RB25DET
