teriyakibroccoli,

If we are talking about starting at 130 going to 180 MPH, then yes of course.

That is where the 6th gear comes into play.

But, if were talking 0-140, The 240SX will kill the Supra.

Do your homework, and then come back and post....Supra Owner..

Be original and swap the 2jz into the 240. You'll have the best of both worlds. The RB will not hold the power the 2jz will.

You mean the 240 couldnt hold the power :) I dunno about the engine differences in holding power and i am not going to speculate.

You've got to be kidding me. Most supra owners don't need to take it into 6th gear to find out who will win the race! The closer gearing because of the 6th gear is what propels cars to the front. 0-140 and the 240 will kill the supra... why don't you get your RB, mate it to a rb25 transmission, and go run a BPU supra. Post the timeslips and then we can talk. Please note I said RB25 (NOT BPU) vs. a BPU'd supra.

ggthanks.

You ever hear the term "Dyno Queen"? You could make 230948203958092358 hp, but if only a fraction of that gets to the ground, then theres really no point to it sans bragging rights.

Edit:K when did they close? LOL... oh well :P

ok now we are flamed. You are resorting to excuses and now no one cares because you have to make excuses to prove you are right. Look at this.

The original question was put like this:
Nissan2nr wrote:What mods would need to be done to an rb25/26 motor to keep up with or beat bpu supras?
You have not posted anything to say that you were talking about any particular Skyline engine. The question asked about both and did refer to upgrades. You assumed we were in your head and we, i assure you, are not nor would most of us want to be. If you love Supras so much, go to a Supra forum and talk about how you are king of your little niche. But these excuses and tirades are frankly pissing me off.

When you do an engine swap like that, you generally do the BPUs at the sametime, some are required. Dont be so stubborn.

My vote goes to the RB (assuming RB25, RB26 is too confusing of a swap IMHO) powered 240, similar howerspower numbers (after the BPU, cuz thats normal for a swap like this) and immensely lighter. Supras are not as great as people think they are, in fact, in my opinion the only thing good about it is the 2JZ, the chassis is nothing to write home about. Pretty much a straight line machine.

everyone makes these "assumptions" you should probably check out some awesome video of a large turbo'd t88 tearing up some of england's finest r34 drivers?

Anyways, everyone thinks that supras are only "freeway demons" and they're only good for striaght line driving.. but that is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wrong. Yeah sure, their chassis is "built" to take on straight line action, but they do hold their own on the course.

I dont see them "holding their own" against miatas, 86s and of course 240s....in my eyes this is between a Rb powered 240 and BPU Supra...not a Skyline.

i think i'm gonna stand alongside teriyakibroccoli here and cast my vote to the toyota community. could be wrong, and i'm far from a supra owner, but i've seen too many projects come together and yield disappointing results. at least the supra is tried and true a hundred times over. show me the RB26 powered 240 and i might change my mind, but for now i'm voting supra.

I have a vid of an RB25 powered 240 on dyno, makes something like 450. I cant imagine a full 3" exhaust, intake and 17psi can make THAT much more...more likely less. A few people have RB26 240s, such as underground...

How much power would a bpu rb25 make. A bpu supra makes about 370-425.

Thats a hard question to answer, but I would guess something like 325-375....

yeah but didnt anyone see that best motoring video where the supra was in last like the whole time until the silvia got hit by the r34...... and then i think the rx7 won.... but the silvia would have won but the skyline driver sucked.... so yeah.... silvias are better than supras

Assuming a BPU Supra makes 350whp, its obvious a 240 with the same 350whp would beat the Supra in a 1/4 mile. A 350whp RB25/26 is definitely reasonable. I would think even an RB20 could reach that power level. An RB25/26 could make that power on a stock turbo.

A drag race between an RB25/26 powered 240 and a Supra with similar bolt ons would go to the 240. The 1000lbs advantage goes a long way...

well yes if the cars could get all that available power to the ground which doesnt happen, and i do believe that supras can put that to the ground easier unless you had the great launch capability of awd

Putting the power to the ground has nothing to do with it. You are talking about traction. If they both put 350whp then they are both putting that to the ground.

The launch, that is nothing a good traction control kit, like the one from race logic couldn't cure.

wow.....madness.---- If one were to build an RB25 w/ BPU (as it should be done when doing the swap) it would easily hang with the 2jz (bpu'd). They both put near the same power down to the wheels (perhaps the supra even more) but there is a 1k lb difference. Do the math and figure in pwr/wght ratio, provided they both get traction, the 24o will own. Sure supra's are amazing cars, but as said before, they arent the 'end all' of imports. And as far as a skyline costing so much more than a supra- i htink thats a somewhat unfair statement because of legalization fee's. In japan, they cost damn near the same. Supra's are freeway runners for sure, and damn good ones, thats been seen, but ive also seen quite a few FD's and such out run them. Either way, if i had to put money down, id say an RB'd 24o with the same BPU would beat a Supra with the same BPU

The 240 would still cost a lot less too.

Now thats straight retarded. You're going to compare one race, where driver's of similar caliber, drive a wide array of cars, from full out race to daily driven cars? Nice. "Silvias are better than supras.." yeah ok. nice.

The fact of the matter is, you put a BPU RB against a BPU 2j in the mk4 chassis on the freeway with the 6 spd getrag, and i'm putting my my money on the supra. Put them on the 1/4 drag, and I'd put my money to the 240. Happy now?

Difference between a 350 whp and 500 whp supra? About a second. There are 500 whp supra guys into the 11's without 2nd thought. Don't act as if it's impossible. 10's and 9's are the barrier.. though there is a 800 whp STOCK WEIGHT supra (roughly 3500) doing low 9's through an automatic transmission.

Just linger around the supra forums and you'll see that nearly everyone with practically no mods are doing 13s like it's cakewalk. Assume what you want, but you guys seriously need to get outside of your "NICO BUBBLE" and take a look at some other cars and what they can do instead of believing all of the "internet assumptions."

Please guys, don't get mad simply because I'm relaying information from one board to another. Don't assume that you know me, and know what I think about different cars. Yeah, I think the supra is quite possibly the most versatile import 'supercars' out there... but don't be hating on it simply because it played the leading car role in F&F.. i'm not one to jump on the bandwagon because everyone and their mom want's a "supra." Had I said another car would be able to do so well against a RB25'd 240, would you have been on my balls as much? Think about it.. thats what it all boils down to.

Ya I saw that race, and its not exactly what Id consider something to base an arguement on. There is just too many factors involved, different driver levels, all the cars where at different tuning levels, hell the RX7 was the least tuned...although it does point out some interesting things, that lighter cars generally do better on the track.

Well I will agree with you that past 130-140mph~ the supra would most likely pull on the RB25 240, due to the transmission, thats just logic. But the Im glad you admitted that the RB 240 would at least take the 1/4mile.

I dont hate supras, I just think they are overglorified in most peoples eyes, especially leymans. Not to mention the cost of entry for an MK4 is not exactly ideal for most of us (roughly 20-40K for a TT)...whereas for roughly10-15K you can have a 240 with an RB25 and a decent amount of mods.

Different strokes for different folks, I think some people in here think that simply because it is more cost-effective means that it's better.

The real pressing question to be answered in this thread is not which car is faster...but just how old IS teriyakibroccoli and has he ever owned anything faster than a stock 240?
