My brand new 2015 Rogue SL also rattle in the rear. Yesterday, I finally was able to pinpoint the section of the rear hatchback that seems to duplicate the noise. I hear a very light rattle noise that appears to be caused by the car's engine vibrations after reaching approx. 20mph or when going over uneven terrain.

I tried banging everywhere on the rear hatch in an effort to duplicate the noise, but the noise is not produced as a result of banging or wiggling. I was able to relocate the noise when I light pressed with my thumb on the inner hatch trim. I removed the black trim to get to the inner panel of the hatch.

The noise is replicated in the vicinity of the right hatch strut and the lower rubber stopper. As a matter of fact, when I lightly press on that rubber stopper, I hear the noise. It sounds more like a clicking sound.

Not sure what to do at this point. The dealer alleged that they do not hear anything.

Hi. iRogue,

It looks very similar problem what I have now ! (sound like thin metal plate is vibrating)
rattling-noise-from-rear-side-nissan-ro ... 04467.html

I will try to 'remake' the noise by pressing the hatch door

Do you have any progress about this issue?

Thank you.

What you can do:

1. Adjust the four rubber bumpers. Test some different adjustments. If you unscrew those too much, the hatch won't close easily.

2. There is a bent metal rod, which is the part of the lock that is attached to the rear of the car. Put electric tape around the OUTSIDE rod, 4-5 turns. When you close the hatch, tape should be in between the lock mechanism and the rod (use the slightly angled portion of the rod as a reference). If you put too much tape (more than 4-5 turns), the lock will cut the excess tape. Unroll the tape until it won't cut.
My Rogue 2012 had same problem

I went nissan dealer shop and they told me it's brake issue although this sound occurs when I do not push brake pad
(and they told me I need to change rear left assembly part $600). I guess they are not interested in noise issue from the 'inside' of the car

I tried 1 & 2 both and it WORKED PERFECTLY.
My four rubber bumpers are too worn out, so I may need to order those from the website soon.

I may wrapped the rod too much, it's little bit stiff to open the hatch door now. However it is perfectly quiet now.

I will try RTV later to remove other noises as well. (Yes, now I am very sensitive to all noises in the car, paranoid)

Adjust the two rubber bump stops on either side of the hatch itself. They are about the size of your thumb. Especially if one is shorter than the other, adjust the shorter one. If both are the same unscrew them one turn and try it. Repeat until rattle goes away. It's normally caused by wear on the bumpers and the door doesn't sit tight anymore. Creates a metal on plastic rattle when you hit bumps.

Hi. Apologies if this sounds REALLY stupid but I'm wondering if you have a photo or google image of what these two rubber bump stops look like that you're referring to? I am female and live in Australia. I have a 2015 top of the line qashqai with a similar insanely annoying random noise. I can't find these stops you're talking about or I'm looking at them thinking they're something different.

My sound is maybe like a metal on plastic sharp, short click or pop sound. Not a creak or rattle but a definite small click/pop. It's not the lock latch thingo as I've put tape over that and the noise is still there. I also have removed the parcel tray, put down the rear seats down, placed a blanket over the spare wheel to insulate noise - as well as ensuring the tools weren't rattling and the spare wheel was secure. The noise happens are either at high or low speed and can happen on smooth or bumpy surfaces. It's sporadic but EXTREMELY annoying. Sometimes I go over bumps and it doesn't make any sound then next time the road might be smooth and I'll hear the click/pop. It happens EVERY time I drive it. Every day and ike every one I hear every single click/pop.

What I have noticed, like someone else here posted, is that the plastic mounding or door trim that goes around the rear hatch door window has a small gap on the lower left hand side. It is slightly skewed and doesn't meet up. I discovered this a week ago. It looks like the clips don't meet up. Like the other poster said, I tried to bang this back together with my hand but mine didn't click back together. So there is still a small gap. When you push this with your hand it does make noise but I don't know if that's the noise. I though for sure it was that. Anyway, I shoved a bit of tissue in the gap (typical chick fix lol) but it didn't make any difference. Far out!!!

Upon reading this forum I've gone back to that area of the rear door/window/plastic trim thingo as I think, but can't be certain, the noise might be coming from the left side, which is where the plastic trim mounding thingo has a gap. Tomorrow I will drive it again and see if the small foam bits I put ALL around it make a difference.

But...I'm keen to also see if I twist one of these rubber stop things I might find one is shorter than the other as suggested. Problem is...where the hell are they and what do they actually look like? Do you adjust with your hands or does it require a tool?

I'm scared of pulling off the plastic door trim around the rear window. Even if I'm careful it may end up worse than it is with an even bigger gap! Would spraying a bit of WD40 in that gap help?

I have taken the car to Nissan who said they couldn't identify the noise. Typical. I also know it's not the license plate and I can't see anything else that is loose. Again. It's more of a pop/click/crack noise. Short and sharp.

Funny thing is that I'm a psychologist and this noise is really messing with my head. My son says it's all in my head, And yet, this bloody click/pop/crack sound is there and i can't isolate it.

Any advice welcome. Many thanks - Chick with the annoying click!!!

Welcome to NICO!
The rubber bump stops look something like this, although the ones referred to screw in and out.

Although this diagram is for the Murano, I think it should help you in adjusting your rear hatch.

Hi. Thanks for the reply and photos. Ok I'm not going mad. My 2015 Qashqai doesn't have these rubber stoppers?! If only it was that easy! This is what my 2015 QQ (I'm in Australia) has:

These are hard plastic but can be twisted but appear to just spin. There is a key thing to adjust I think but I can't figure out how to pull it out? Annoying!

This what the rest looks like:

Just screws!

Nothing to twist or adjust here here that I can see?

And finally: these 2 things are rubber but appear to plug in?

Going absolutely bonkers with this. It's such a hard thing to isolate.

Any more suggestions?

Hi, make sure the noise it actually coming from the hatch. Have someone sit in the back and try to locate it. I too had a noise coming from the back and after realized it was coming from the moonroof cover but only when it was open. Another moment I had another noise from the back and noticed it was the seat belt that the hitting the hard plastic around the door frame. Just trying to give you some clues and wish you luck.

Can you send a picture of what you are talking about. This issue is driving me crazy. Not a car person so I am having trouble following. I see these posts are older so I hope someone sees this. quote=Qashqai post_id=6508089 time=1376666861 user_id=179323]

There is a design problem with the lock. When you open the hatch and poke the lock mechanism (as if the hatch is locked), you can feel it wiggles 2-3 mm after it is in the locked position.

Try this: Close the hatch and push and release the hatch with your finger for 3-4 times. Push from the bottom of the licence plate (the 2-3 inch flat metal edge of the hatch). You will see that rattle is from the lock.

For both 1 and 2, after doing anything, test if the noise is still there or not by pushing from the bottom of the licence plate.

I had the same noise issue for a long time and with the electric tape solution it is gone. Just try. If it solves the problem, you don't have to go to the dealer.
