I got a pioneer fh-p8000BT head unit. this unit was on sale for this price 6 months ago and i almost got it, and have wanted it since.

it went on sale for $299....$340cdn after taxes. i couldnt say no to it guys i HAD to get it. Took me about an hour to install and setup minus the harness soldering. The great thing about this is its Double DIN and LOOKS factory. The main reason ive wanted this one is for the bluetooth functionality. I can listen to music from my phone, dial calls and go through my phonebook all with my cell remaining in my pocket. New laws are coming to canada where u must have handsfree...so stick it to em with this baby! Heresss the pics, enjoy

Thanks roger for lending me that jvc deck but gloss black w/blue lights and wood grain looks sooo much better than silver!!I placed the microphone behind the steering wheel, My test call went surprisingly good, called home and reception was clear on both ends. I then called my girlfriend who has a razr2 which has crystaltalk technology (very finicky) and she complained that i sounded far away, and there was a tiny echo but it was ok. This is VERY good as my gf yells at me if im even on speakerphone. i called MOM and she didnt evn know i was calling from handsfree. The "rotary knob" can be moved around and turned, verrry useful. to be honest...its just like bmw's idrive. I love how i can reach it perfectly with my hand on the gearshiftThen theres a supplied remote too...notice the rotary knob is on there too along with numbers to dial! The USB is at the back of the unit. which i LOVE. i hate how all the new HU's have the usb input at the front...do you really want to drive around with a flash drive sticking out! There was an 8 foot usb cable supplied, ran it between the seats, but ill find a better place later. Note that this unit "decompresses" mp3's...sound quality was amaaazing. Especially now that my subs are on a subwoofer output and not the rear output like they were on the jvc deckThe viewNotice all my domelights are now full LED'sRunning my Motorola Q9h windows mobile device. Its playing windows media player. The sound quality is...well i dont think it gets any better than this for the tech the way it is now. Its cd quality id say, just below. Very clear but u notice a difference with the usb stick. U can control tracks and volume without touching the phone, but the DOWNSIDE is the track isnt shown onscreen of the headunit. the only thing im dissapointed with so far with this deck. The box

tell me what you guys think! I decided to not go the touchscreen route....I really dont need movie functionality, i tend to like to feel buttons while i drive to change tracks (my handheld gps is very distracting while driving when making changes cuz i have to look on screen) and I dont really use gps, i have my handheld if i ever really need it. This gives me an OEM look, with the features i need and im very impressed so far!

slickroger....ill be bringin ur deck over to you when your free

Looks very nice, I like the turn wheel in the center. If you're brave enough you could try and run the wire under the upholstery.

Also, you best be cleaning your mats.

if i was a moderator id ban you for saying that. Everyone knows im a clean freak with my q. I got those rubber floor mats from canadian tire on monday to protect my oem mats. With all the snow and salt here...by tuesday they were filthy. Its winter, the exterior i gave a full wash and two days later.....its pretty much white now cuz of all the salt.

so please. nobody comment on dirtyness of our cars if you dont get heavy winters like we do. its hard enough looking at it we dont need to hear ppl say it!

pathfinder9035 its a compliment when people get the same thing as me, id love to see it. as for connecting it with the bose system, all you need is the wiring harness, connect all the wires to the harness, and pay particular attention to the blue wire with a white stripe in it, thats your remote turn on wire for your bose amp. its as easy as that, its all it takes to have it all work.

Wow, I was actually thinking about getting this HU today however Im still undecided. Seeing your pics now makes me think I should've gotten it. The sale ended today.....Best Buy right??

I have a few questions QXXX4:Is the HU easy to navigate in Ipod mode?Where did you purchase your harnesses? You mentioned something about a blue wire with a white strip....is this not part of the harness??Will I still be able to use my steering controls for volume etc?

Any help appreciated.Thanks

dang that double din does work really well!

USB thumb drive - i have mine routed to the glove box, but only because that was extremely easy. Since you've already gone that far, i would consider routing it under the center console and drill it into the lower storage area under the arm rest.

Plus, if you're a clean freak, taking apart the center console will allow you to clean up all the nasty **** that has accumulated over time. Mine had all sorts of hidden rotten things when i took the center console apart.

anyways, just an idea. Nice install.

-i dont use ipods but i noticed the instructions for them. its the same UI as the ipod..u can choose albums, artist, etc, and the rotary knob is verrrry easy to use i love it. its truly the best part of this setup!-my wiring harness was given to me by slickroger, but you can get it at canadian tire or walmart for like $10-the blue wire needs to be cut from factory harness if i remember and spliced to the rest of the system, its your bose remote turn on, my bose speakers didnt work until i hooked this up-i unfortunately dont have steering wheel controls, but slickroger has the avic-d3 nav setup from pioneer and he has steering wheel controls...im sure its possible with this one too

hope that helps!

thanks fueler....of everyone on this forum its your opinion that i was most looking forward to haha! yeah as i was routing the usb cable i remembered you said yours was in the glovebox. Ideas are floating everywhere....this deck allows me to scroll through songs and folders.....seeing how i have my whole music library setup to work on flash drives....being...all folders/files no tags or crap like itunes and windows media player....i can throw a hard drive in there if i wanted and itd work amazing. Im also considering doing something with the ashtray since i dont really smoke inside the q. Maybe setup a port for usb, a port for aux jack, something like that. I also want to make a cradle on that compartment next to the gear shift for my phone.

i bought this thing with the idea i can just return it. and told myself if there was one thing i didnt like id take it back.....and im yet to hate anything about it.

i love pioneer products, this deck is sweet. i just went to my q to get something and that deck looks amazing at night. as you guys call it "pioneer blue" is gorgeous. im def going to do the dash lights this year, and change the heated seats lights from orange to blue. maybe two colours, one for low, one for high.

my god i spew out loads of ideas just thinking lmao. get ready nico qxxx4's gunna go all out in 2009. i already started!

u guys can call me Brian btw lmao we always use nicknames its great

yeah today i fell in love with the remote...i didnt even know this came with one until i saw it on the box!

On my drive to work and back home i managed to play with the sound settings and realized...there are a hell of alot of options! more than just equalizer, theres so many things you can do. Its really addicting tweaking it all. Im in the process of rewiring my home entertainment setup so i spent all my time aside from work on that today but ill get back to my sound in the q as soon as im done.

Bluetooth audios actually great quality, you need to set your volume on your phone to around 80% then tweak the settings abit and the quality is great. theres alot of bass though, messing with the settings to get around that. CD/USB sound amazing in the q, but still, need adjusting from default settings.

This truly is a MUSIC player deck. its meant for talking, interacting with your phone, and getting the best sound your system can give.

Im definately going to need to put foam padding inside my doors this spring though, noticing alot of vibration/rattle on some frequencies...not cool.

i noticed my LED dome lights fading with the music when i have the system at a reasonable volume.....so ill probably get a cap this summer. im scared im going to blow my alternator without one.

getting a pioneer amplifier is also on my list of maybes...time will tell.

keep the comments comin, they inspire me to do more things lol

not at all. you dont even need knowledge of LED's. I originally made my own light board with hyper white LED's. it had 6 and looked ok but wasnt as bright as i wanted. Then i found lots of sellers on ebay selling LED boards that have SMT LED's (suuuper bright). The ones i got have 36 LED's per board, and cost only $5 shipped. you cant buy the parts for that price. They were made for 1156 bulb sockets (just the two wires go into the socket, that goes into the 1156 socket) cut the socket off, and wrap the wires around the leads where the regular filament bulb would go in the q.

this can only be done on the dome lights, the map light needs a special bulb size, those cost me a little more.

i thought i did a thread on this, not sure? check ebay though, lots of lights there

my 4th day and things keep getting better. I fixed the crappy Bluetooth audio quality...turns out it was the phone that was streaming crappy sound and not the deck. using my blackberry curve it sounds cd quality. The music is clean and crisp i cant believe its streaming from the phone!!

Ive made a few more calls, all very great. I was on the highway and no complaints from the other end and i can hear them loud and clear. The mic is behind the steering wheel so i, by nature, talk louder but noticed they hear me just fine if i talk regular. It sounds like i am on speakerphone to the other line, which is what is expected. No echo whatsoever on both ends. The neat part....i synced my phonebook in and can do a search by letter, very easy to navigate. Even cooler, i can dial from the remote as well.

I still cant find much that i dislike. Heres so far what i dislike:

-Bluetooth music doesnt show track name-i still havent figured out how to set the clock (been too busy playing)-its shown that my motorola q9 has crappy bluetooth streaming and as a result may keep my blackberry curve i was fixing/reselling because of exceptional sound on bluetooth streaming-no removeable faceplate, if a punk is smart enough to see that this is aftermarket, they can take the whole system. Alarm system this summer for sure.

Sick headunit Brian!!!

Really completes the look.

I have a Pioneer headunit as well and that dial IS a great feature.

Just a question, how difficult was it to hide the wires for your amp??? Do you have any instructions handy in text or pdf format?? What gauge did you use for voltage to your amp?

the wires are really easy. its almost as if the qx4 was made for aftermarket amp lol.

I used the standard 4 gauge wire all the way from battery to the amp (positive). The hardest part is getting the wire through the firewall but theres a spot right near the drivers side fender that can let you squeeze in a 4 gauge. from there, i ran the wire down the drivers side. all the door sills pop right off with some force, and theres enough space to put the wire in there and pop them back on. My ground wire was also 4gauge and i bolted that right under the seat. Then i ran the RCA's down the passenger side and hooked up my headunit (JVC at the time) and i was in business once i got around getting the factory amp to turn on for the door speakers.

I dont have any documents, did it all freestyle, but there is a thread here on my installs completed pics somewhere, and also a video on youtube "Qxxx4's new system" i think

show us pics asap! we appreciate any pics shared! were all here to help you, welcome!

Nice write up brian. I like the headunit. I have been contemplating a d-din replacement for my stock 02.

Did you say that there is a way to hook up steering wheel controls for those who have them?

yes its possible with pioneer head units, not sure about this one but you should be able to. Slickroger installed the pioneer avic-d3 in his pathy and had steering wheel controls working. I dont have them to begin with so i never looked into it
