I need some help on deciding on what to do.

I'm actually considering an little gig or some side work and I need to know what you guys think. Knowing that 240 are old and have a lot of problems. Who would you chose to help you out.

Considering those things:

1- 240 owners are usually broke or don't want to spent a lot of money. 2- Don't have much knowledge on how to diagnose or fix the problem .3- Are just damn lazy.

Q: Who would you guys chose to fix your ride.

There are five choices.

1-Private 240 enthusiast (A person whit some knowledge and experience with 240's)2- Random Mechanic

3-Dealership

Cheap Performance shop

Expensive Performance shop

If I could choose anybody?Toby Broadfield and 110Octane for an s13 collaboration... SpanishRicer and SinisterSntra for a s14 Zenki collaborations

The awesomeness of such projects would destroy the Earth...

There really isn't a concrete option for me. I work at a Honda dealership, and there is endless amounts of technicians that I am friends with. I usually go around asking for help & pick the cheapest bidder. On top of that, if I pay for labor through the shop, it's only 30/hr (VS 98.95/hr for customers), I can hold the dealership responsible if anything breaks. Only bad thing is that they are all into Civic hatch B20/LS/VTech crap. BLAH.

Also, Jeff420 lives relatively close to me, and I'm sure I'll be going to him for help sooner or later.

id rather do it myself!..besides most shops want an arm and a legg to sling in an aftermarket part that they refuse to be liable for if they install it wrong..id rather do it myself and learn from it..good or bad...then to let some dushbag touch my ride who dosent give a rats but what happens to it..just my 2 cents.

Is there anyone in the Bay Area that could lend a helping hand? Just in case I ever screw up something sometime soon. Or any time soon.

I own a shop and I'm all into 240's but I'll tell you if I didn't have my own place things would be more difficult but I wouldn't go to random mech. or dealer.

Random mechanic.

Why pay more to get the same service. The 240 isnt special, its just another ricer, a simple to work on ricer at that a random mechanic will be able to get the job done no problem.

But if you can find an enthusiast who will do it for free then heck why not.

Hell no. Your car will be in the shop for days while they try to figure out why your 5spd swap doesn't rev past 5k rpm, why the motor feels like a weak flat 4, why your pop-up lights are stuck, etc etc etc...

Knowlegdeable enthusiasts FTW.

Again that depends on the problem. So yes i can see where a random mech would fail, but the random mechs in my area are guys who were at one point enthusiasts and realized that they didnt need highschool to make money.

i actually have 2 peoples 240's im working on at the moment, one from this site and another that i was selling 240 parts to. i do the work cheaper than anyone else and back up all my work. win win situation for everyone.

and hey jerrid, i got some s14 wheels and some 15" aftermarket black ones too. lmk if your intrested.

I am that random mechanic, and Im also a huge 240 enthusiast. Ive never worked on an S chassis at work other than my own, but Ive had a handful of 240SX owners approach me about doing work on the side, many of whom were members of this great forum.

Sounds kool I guess. What have you done to your s14 so far since you said you working on a engine and 5 speed?

Also where do you stay by?

Who ever said mechanics are crookes is not very bright. I dont see how ASE certifications are jokes either.

Well I bought a 98 s14 auto with a rod sticking out of the side so I took apart and cleaned my spare s13 ka with a 5 speed changed all the gaskets and know putting it back together.

That's the blown ka and the rod in my hand. The previous owner was too lazy to change a bad thermostat. So what does he do he gets on the highway and it took like a few minutes and the piston sized the rod blew holes on both sides of the block on cylinder 4. He said when it happen it looked like a giant smoke bomb from all the oil on the headers, than the oil got on the rear tires and he sponged out across three lanes but nothing happened to the car.
