Try a headered CA18 with a short ram intake and a raw steel interior. My ears are still ringing.

I think that my ears started ringing thinking about that, and I just finished a 9 hour trip......... one way.

YES! :mike
BMWs aren't for wankers... just the new ones.
I won't even completely agree with that last bit - when TMS mentioned the M3 I was thinking of something a little more modern than an E30.

Sounds like it'll be pumping in A-OK noises. I can see it now:
"Ma'm, why did you wait so long to bring your car in? Its now running on only 3 cylinders!"
"It sounded fine to me... just lacking some power"
Very good question I am curious about this as well.

Yeah its a pipe that goes from the intercooler inlet pipe (plugged on the inlet pipe side) to the cabin, it carries the sound well but really is absolute rice mod since it has absolutely no use other than to sound cool.

Haha! Wow no way!

I have a redneck friend with a SOHC 4.6 Brostang who unbolted his exhaust from the headers and put washers between them... He likes how it sounds

Good question. There are a ton of folks who don't listen to their car and barely realize anything is going wrong; whereas an enthusiast is more engaged and continually listening for misfiring, brake noises, tires singing, exhaust, etc.

I'll rock a later E-body, no complaints.

That video was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a vehicle DOMINATE the ring like that.

That has to be so disheartening when you're out there in your $160,000 porsche, and some guy in an old M3 just absolutely DESTROYS you.
I wonder if his noise suppression mode was set to "sport".

I never understood what was wrong with getting rid of sound deadners to make the car lighter.

Type-R anyone?

Not a damned thing. I never put a radio in my Silvia because I really loved listening to the car. Of course most people wouldn't like that every day, but it should be an available option.

Aren't there some cars that pipe engine noises into the cabin? Why not just do that?

Not to my knowledge. If you have no soundproofing every panel becomes a radiant speaker. Pull up all the carpet and insulation in your car and go for a drive. You might not put the insulation back in.

Because it's usually some dipshat who already weighs 275 lbs ripping out 18 lbs of sound deadening, thinking he's making a difference. Dumb.

I don't put audio stuff in my rides, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna do without sound deadening and heat insulation.

Mozzie!

Saw the new 3 series today, front end looked funny and smooshed.
It was quite huge as well.
I would've taken the E30 M3 next to it instead.

I'm sayin damnit, it's a performance version! They need to be like Porsche and make you pay more to have the radio and AC deleted!

My once-fanatical loyalty to BMW has waned in favor of Mercedes-Benz, who have crawled out of their decade of suck with pomp and vigor.

I still have little love for MB, but specific models strike varying degrees of my fancy.
I've been an Audi convert in progress for about a decade, though. The A8 is now superior to my previous favorite Big Elegant Sedan, the 7 series. Which is better now than at the hands of Bangle, but still nowhere near where the E38 was in its heyday. It's a testament to all the things Audi does right that I still love them so much despite my strong dislike for AWD.
I'd rather have an XJL Supersport than any of the 3 big Krautmobiles, though.
