Now that my car is getting better I am going to start putting more money into modifying it. One of the things Im on the verge of buying is a short shifter. Ive read all the threads and I cant decide between OBX and B&M. On one hand I have a much cheaper one, which of course is more cheaply made. On the other hand I have the B&M which is much better quality with better throws. I was gonna flip a coin, but I decided id let you guys. Ill run this thread for about a week and by then Ill be ready to buy the winner. Thanks!Which will I get?

Have any of you with b and m shifters have problems with shifting into the wrong gear? I tested one for a few seconds and it seemed VERY notchy to me. Do you get used to this? When you are in 5th gear and pull all the way down, does it automatically go into 4th like the stock shifter? And how about shifting into 3rd? Is it easy to accidentally shift into 1st?

I think you just answered your question right there.

I would imagine it's very hard to shift into 1st instead of 3rd, considering the way the 1st gear syncros are on any manual transmission. If you even tried to shift into it above, say, 30, it would grind the hell outta first gear.

i really hate the noise of my b&m. it's making noise at ALL rpm. even at idle. just that the noise is SUPER INSANE above 5k rpm....the shifter is shaking like electrical shock if u touch it above 5k rpm. i want a c's shifter now.

didn't they correct this problem? how old is your shifter?

oh yea don't go cheap. I won an obx shifter on ebay, guy couldnt find my money order. In that time I found out obx is missing a seal or something and the transmission fluid leaks or spills out, guy finds the money order and offers a refund because he was taking so long, or send the shifter. I took the refund and now am saving for a b & m

Yes very good. Made in Japan so you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks delivery. But other than that C's is up with the top brand name in Japan.

I just installed my B&M a few days ago.. I dunno what noise everyone complains about.. tho it is VERY notchy, it takes effort to change gears.. tho the distance from 1st to 2nd is probaby 2"

Take an OBX shifter, pull it appart, fill the inside with 3M weatherstrip adhesive and put it back together. It will NEVER let you down after that.

I've run that shifter on my last 3 settup's and it's been great.

BTW I've heard nothing but bad things about the B&M from people who daily drive their cars. If anybody remember Pat from Orlando's sick S13 that blew up? Well his B&M was the cause of that (missed a gear) and after driving it I can understand how easy it would be to do. Save your money and go with the one that you won't regret.

the obx shifter is a two peice shifter and can snap apart durin a hard shift. the adhesive makes sure this doesnt happen

nissanrcer240- i havent gotten my turbo kit yet and the car is for sale. if no one buys it within a reasonable amount of time i will keep it and get a high stall toruqe converter

MV - How in the world could you miss a gear with a B&M?? Maybe i have the revised version.. but at least with THIS version of the shifter it would take a real great driver to miss a gear..
