I've heard that after a while of having it on the paint, it will mess with the clear coat...let me know how it goes after a few months
Lots of people 'hear' things and usually they hear it from people who have no clue what they are talking about. It's best NOT to repeat what you 'hear' - better to go to the source and 'hear' what they say. Plasti-dip cannot and will not afect your clear coat, period. However, that stays true ONLY if you apply it correctly (and there are tons of videos and how-to's at the dippinig company websites), and ONLY if your clear coat is in good shape to begin with. A clear coat that is fading or wearing thin will not even hold up against normal weather, much less coatings like plasti-dip.

Here is a video that my mate Fonzie did regrding this and other myths people 'hear':

My advice has always been to make sure you do your research in the right places - do NOT just go to you tube and watch some bloke named Jim who did his own car in his driveway and follow his lead. Most videos where the user is complaining that it didn't work, it's because that user did NOT apply it properly and then blamed the product instead of admitting he didn't read or follow instructions. Make sure you take your tips from someone who actually knows the product, and has experience with it, and has the knowledge and facts to back it up.

That looks brilliant, mate ! I'm curious - did you peel the dip from the chrome badges on the trunk lid? or leave them white?

While we're doing updates, I did my grille earlier this year, leaving the little nipples and the badge in chrome:

Then just recently, I saw a post where a bloke did his trunk trim in black and peeled the surface leaving just the Infiniti letters in black - it looked fab against his light coloured M. My M is black so I decided to do the opposite. I sprayed the trim black, but I peeled JUST the Infiniti letters leaving the trim piece black to match the car:

My next project is eyebrows over the headlamps. I don't like the design of the pre-made eyebrows I've seen. My eyebrows will keep the headlamp housing the same height as it is over the parking lamp area and and carry that same height across to the fender, making the entire headlamp housing similar to the Acura TL light assemnbly. I'll post after I've done it.

@Larz I'm really impressed with your trunk trim plastic dip. I see that you sprayed the top trim and peeled the letters. Did you leave the bottom (below the license plate) chrome or did you spray? Also, have you plasti-dipped any other parts since this post?

I think it's great! And that design will look great on ANY colour , whereas mine (black trim + chrome letters) looks best only on a black car. Well done!

Thanks for the compliment, but I must confess I saw this mod on another member's car and copied it so I cannot take credit for the idea. Yes, I also did the lower trim piece to match the upper one. I also did the rear symbol so now there is just a smidge of chrome on the rear end. Looks more sporty to me this way. I also removed the M35 letters so the trunk lid is now continuous black with no other chrome.

My next project is to replace the low-rent plastic piece in the front lower bumper (which houses the fog lamps). It seems more suited to a cheap American sport car like the Mustang, Camaro, etc where just about everything else is cheap plastic already. A car as nice as the M needs aluminum mesh, I think.
I already have the mesh pieces, purchased from a place called CarGrilles on Ebay. I bought 2 sheets (4in X 36in) of aluminum diamond mesh (with small openings) that still provide air flow. I will be dremeling out the entire trim piece - all but the outermost edge and re-fitting the fog lamp surrounds inside the new mesh, then I will plasti-dip all of it to match my grille. I will leave the large center air dam untouched - just going to do the side trims.
I'll post a DIY with pictures when I get the time to do it.
