i took an xacto knife and etched around the letters and started peeling off. I did 10 coats (got carried away). but etched around it and started pulling away the dip that i didn't want and when it got closer to the letters i etched it a bit more carefully to cut off excess dip

I am thinking of attempting it and see how it goes, I'll keep you updated when i get a chance any how many coats/cans i end up using. if this is a good/cheap replacement for dynamat...

Anyone know if Rustoleum 2X gloss can be safely applied to Plastidip?
Plastidip Glossifier is hard to find in stores...

I heard you can use plasti dip as primer for anything. So it will work but I am not sure how the color/finish will turn out because I never did it myself. I have to redo my wheels here in the next couple weeks so maybe I will check it out if you do not do it first

Some accounts say Rust-Oleum and plastidip are a bad combination as it might render the plastidip permanent. I hear it's a better shine, but basically there is no clear answer so I've got an email into the company about this...

This is about 5 coats of plastidip, done over a 24 hour period (due to bad weather).
It's looking pretty smooth and even. I had significant curb rash, so 3 coats was not going to cut it. This came to about 2.5 cans of plastidip. (plastic bags haven't been removed from the rotors yet)

Looks good. You have to tint your windows. Unless your showing off your bourbon interior which I would do too if I had it.

Absolutely! Just don't want to spend any money :)

here's a picture of the grill:

I'm actually kinda glad this is semi-permanent as it's become ghetto pretty quick.
Plastidip is great though. I might even do the entire front bumper so it doesn't get chewed up any further or long chrome trim.

If anyone is interested to know, I didn't remove the grill to dip it. Instead, I covered the back of it with cut trash bags and made sure the air intake, radiator, crash sensors, etc., were all covered from the spray. It's about 5 coats and might need a slight touch up.

Also, in case anybody is interested in using Rustoleum gloss with Plastidip, here is the official response from Rust-Oleum:
"In order to be certain of compatibility we would recommend a test application. These two products have not been tested for compatibility therefore we couldn't say for sure. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
J***** C "

i removed my grille cause it was pretty easy, took about 5 minutes total. But the dip job looks great, but not a big fan of the murdered out look IMO, but overall car looks good man, keep it up!

Thanks! Yeah, I would love to have taken the grill off, but I must have broken the clips by squeezing too hard because they are not going anywhere and look a bit mangled. Oh well. Seems to be stuck in place at least.

My Girl has an Accord that has a nasty spot where the previous owner had a Garmin stuck to the dash and when they tried removing it and damaged the dash. I might have to do this. Thanks

depends on what you are spraying, exterior, i sprayed with the can straight up, but if you can take the pieces apart and spray them out of where they are located, can is fine, although the spray grip is only another 6-8 bucks? So why not right?

It's Umbria grey and I like the newer mod of painting the innards on the tails but don't have funds set for that at the moment. Thx for the compliments.

It's probably a really good idea to buy the grip if you're going to be using more than 3 cans. By about the 4th (out of 6) my finger was pretty sore. You want to be using a lot of short sprays, so it really adds up.

Thanks! by the way the more coats you put on the blacked out letters the better and make sure you etched around the letters after every coat so its easier to peel off at the end... well more starting towards the 4-5th coat depending on how many you are doing. I ended up doing 10 coats, cause i wanted to see how much better it would look, I did my friends and we did only 5 coats on his FX35

I read yesterday in the comments for some video that plasti dip comes off really soon. So if I do my wheels, will it be a waste of time? How long will the dip last?
Thanks!

Mine are going on a month with lots of highway driving. 5 coats. No apparent difference in the finish from when they first dried. I plan on cleaning/refreshing them in a month or two.

its easy to peel off when you don't want it anymore, but if you apply enough coats it wont come off/chip off easily. Its pretty durable

@GQ, I'm thinking about doing my dash how did to you prep the vinyl for paint in that honda. My dash has began to crack badly. I know I must fill in the cracks and cleanse the vinyl for the plasti dip to adhere well. Also, did that car have defroster vents in the windshield?

yes it did, we taped over it, it was a b****, i can tell you that, especially with the slope of the window. So at the end it wasn't very even coating on the top dash, so what do we do..... we stripped the car and took everything apart and paint it and piece it back.... not sure if you want to go that route, it took us about 8-9 hrs? can't really remember. But truthfully, it didn't look that bad up close, we just wanted to looks really good.

We tape the inside glass with newspapers, tape over the vents, tape over whatever we didn't want done, sprayed and went on with our lives.... not really

I saw your post late last night after I had taped off and started. I regret it. However, today I am stripping it down. I'm going to end up replacing the dash which is $717 online. There doesn't seem to be a way to fix the cracks besides replacing the whole assembly.
