Panera Bread

What do you think of Panera Bread?

Its horrible. I've never had anything good there and I can't fathom why anybody likes it.

They are a much better sandwich chain than Le Boulanger

Ceasar chicken sandwich is bomb. Asiago roast beef is bomb.

It's still an over-priced chain, going local is almost always better

Just another soulless corporate eatery-type place IMO.

I get more satisfaction at McDonald's during breakfast.

Places i have eaten, and it tasted better than panera bread:
1.ARMY - MRE's are kick a** compared to the over salted crap served at panera bread.
2. JAILS - with the piss-poor quality of ford crown victoria's, me and my partners often had to sleep over night at certain jail across the country, while the POS was being repaired lol. the free stay came with a free bologna sandwich, my choice of skim/while/coco milk, and a nasty warm salad. lololol
3. FLIGHTS - seems the food on the planes today is even better than panera bread.
4. MY GIRLS COOKING - .... what a minute, never-mind. lol :lolling:
And yet you didn't vote for the "its disgusting and I can't fathom why anyone goes there" option?!

Anyway, it looks like Torry loses. NICO hath spoken. General consensus: "Why go there?"

It's a one-size-fits-all fast food sort of place. You knew what it was before going in, honestly.

How do I loose? I never claimed it was the best place in the world. I just said it was good. You're the one that claims its horrible, and with only 2 votes your way, it looks to me like you loose.

Overpriced garbage.

I've made better food while sleepwalking.

Its like Subway for hipsters.

I won't say its entirely unedible, but I have yet to be impressed. That being said, I am picky about my food. What really wrecks it all is the price. I eat like a person twice my size. If a decent size sandwhich, a healthy portion of soup, and a soda costs me $16, for what is lightly camoflauged dast food, you sure as hell can bet I will be going somewhere else. Like Breugers.

Brueggers is not any cheaper. Hell, if anything, I think Brueggers is more expensive for what you get. I like them both, but would take Panera over Brueggers.

I end up at Panera Bread a lot more often now than before...generally on the weekends. There's a particular one near my job that has great service and they seem to give you more portions and the ingredients are fresher. I'm not a bread eater but Panera's baked goods are waaaay better than the Italian-owned market near my job.

Rant: there's pretty much nothing resembling healthy food where I live (there's more options where I work, but not much better) being that I live in a rural area. Everyone just eats pizza/fast food. I thought maybe there would be some awesome family-owned Mexican restaurants, but there's only one, and it's 'ok' compared to the offerings in PA. I didn't know I was 'spoiled' when I lived in northern DE.

A lot of times I just end up in Bmore for good food/drink.

That's the problem I have up here in Idaho. Back home, there were some good soup shops and other good non-chain (or at least smaller or local chain) places to eat that at least FELT reasonably healthy. Here, it's either fast food (seven billion varieties and they ALL TASTE THE SAME) or a taco bus (there are BILLIONS of them everywhere) or some self-proclaimed gourmet dessert shop trying to pass itself off as a full restaurant (am I the only one who doesn't "get" cupcakes?!). Or all-you-can-eat pizza buffets (with dessert pizzas).

As far as unhealthy food goes, I miss having a Five Guys around. Good music while you wait, good fries, and mushrooms and pickles on a burger with no catsup/ketchup/catchup/wasteofaperfectlydelicioustomato. Damn, I'm hungry now.

At least we have a decent local-chain grocery store here. BUT WHY THE SMEG IS IT CLOSED ON SUNDAY ARGH. PEOPLE STILL EAT ON SUNDAY. I STILL RUN OUT OF PICKLES AND COKE ON SUNDAY!

Having been to only about 3 "5-guys", I must also say I am thoroughly unimpressed by them as well. The sheer volume of food you get is amazing, but I don't feel like any of it really tastes good or is of high quality.

I rarely take health into account when I eat out. If you REALLY examine the foods you eat, how it's raised/grown/prepared you'd probably stop eating in general.

I'm very fortunate, there are hundreds of locally owned restaurants in my local. From samiches to bbq, Dover has something to please the ole taste buds.

Agreed. I really like the food and I could drink the broccoli and cheese soup, but the meals are expensive. They also got rid of my fav sandwich, their steak sandwich (forget the name). It seems to be a little too hoity toity for my taste with all the rich people playing on their laptops and ipads all the time. Like people just go there for the wifi and spend 2 hrs and $15 on a small deli sammich.

Close but not quite the same.

---

In 1993, Au Bon Pain Co. purchased the St. Louis Bread Company, which was founded by Ken Rosenthal. At the same time, the St. Louis Bread Company was renovating its 20 bakery-cafés in the St. Louis area.[6]
In May 1999, to expand Panera Bread into a national restaurant, Au Bon Pain Co. sold its other chains, including Au Bon Pain, which is now owned by Compass Group North America.[7] The company operates or franchises 1,500 Panera Bread bakery-cafés in 40 states[6] and 20 facilities that deliver fresh dough to the bakery-cafés every day. Panera Bread's co-CEOs are William Moreton and Ron Shaich.[8]
In its headquarters city of St. Louis, Panera Bread still operates under the name St. Louis Bread Company. The St. Louis metropolitan area has over 100 locations.

---

They bought STLBC then applied the STLBC model nationwide. So, the Panera you enjoy (or hate) was created here .

Well, you learn something new every day. The first McDonalds in I forget which city/state (maybe NY), was bought to be turned into an unofficial WakArnalds Museum for how fat it made America. Corperate wanted to sue or something but the contract says they cant. Go ahead, ask me if I care.

NoVa also has a Panera every 1/4 mile, almost as frequent as McDonalds and 7-11s.
