The box from a deck of cards is perfect for relocating spiders, especially the harmful ones, to your neighbor's yard. [I hate them.]

That is a harmless spider btw... its just a grass spider...

I only kill harmful spiders that attack me.... YES IT HAS HAPPENED!

I was sitting at my computer just playing a game.... A ****ING BROWN RECLUSE dropped down in front of my face!!!! I am not joking! It was also the biggest one i have ever seen! I jumped out of my chair, and I killed it.... The spider attacked me!

That's funny. Maybe I live under a rock because I've never seen one in my life and I lived in the SW region of the U.S. which is where it is most common. Rare to me is something of seldom occurance. How many times have you come into contact with a brown recluse or black widow?

What's also funny about the map is that it indicates that black windows live in water. That is QUITE an interesting "fact".

daily everywhere there is a dark place that isn't touched. Essp. in sacramento x_x. lots of bugs for those widows.

I lived in sacramento for 18+ years and I have never seen a brown recluse in my life. I have lived from crappy parts of rancho cordova to desent part of antelope.

Into contact w/a black widow...20, 30 times? I don't know, lost count after I turned 13 really. But then again I would look for them and make them fight ants... It was the ****. Now that i'm a grown up, i'm more of a ***** about them... or many other insects. I get the goosebumps, where as when I was a kid, I'd try my best to capture them. Just yesterday I went to the yard for a lower control arm, and the guy who pulled it off had to kill 2.. to get it off.

and I'm sure that the guy that made the map found it easier to highlight a rectangle 'cuz he assumed ppl would know better.

Brown Recluses are alot less common than black widows, alot more dangerous too. I've been bitten by a few black widows, not a big deal, but brown recluses **** you up. I've see TONS of black widows over the years, but only a few recluses. Guess that comes with growing up in the mountains.

I'm going to have to try this Black Widow vs. Ants thing... or maybe like Black Widow vs. Other animals...

Maybe I could video tape it and sell it or something.

About 2 months ago I woke up to a little spider that crawled in my mouth when I fell asleep. I accidently swallowed it. It didn't really taste bad though....

Brown recluse - once at a warehouse I worked for over the summer. Some of the guys threw stuff at it, then caught it in a cup and let it go outside.

Black Widow - at least 25 times. If I looked I could easily find more. They like to hang out under the house and near the pool equiment. There are also always a few sacks of babies in our garage. My dad goes Black Widow hunting every few months to keep the population under control.

I'm sorry, but if I see a spider in my house, he's got to go. If it's outside then I'll leave it be, but I am not risking anything in my house (daddy longlegs might be an exception because they don't look menacing).

isn't it crazy that the daddy longlegs are really deadly?

they're venom would **** our **** up if they could actually deliver it...

encounters with black widows or brown recluses are much like encounters with say...mountain lions and rattle snakes and stuff...it's all about the habitat, while they can live in a vast amount of areas, it doesn't always mean you'll see them all over the place.

if you wanna look for them, try a damp dark basement.

the burned spider was a tegenaria domestica, quite harmless, but a fast runner.

i love spiders, but i dont like those, so the killing was ok. when i find them, i like to feed them to a very large araneus diadematus that lives outside. the diadematus make orb webs, they are usually brownish, with ringed legs and a distinct pattern on their abdomens.

the vast majority of spiders are no more harmful than a bee.

Poor Poor Mr1der... apparently you don't watch the MYTH BUSTERS...

They disproved the daddy longlegs myth.

They tested the venom - not poisonus tested its fang length - long enough to bitehad one bite someone - burned for a second then went away

Rectangular highlights are usually intended to convey a general point, not a specific one. I doubt the person who set the highlight on the map wanted to say that spiders exist in the ocean. He probably was referring to the land masses within the highlighted area.

I get spiders in my basement a lot. Since i'm not a connisseur of spider species and which ones are deadly and which ones aren't, i just do the tissue trick. I leave daddy-long-legs alone because i know they're harmless, and they're kinda cute as well. Only spiders i can recognize are the ubiquitous black widow (don't get 'em around here that i know of),Wolf spiders, and one time i saw a Golden Orb spider, but those are harmless too.

I had a daddy long legs that live in the corner of my room and spun a beautiful web that in the morning would create this BEAUTIFUL shade and color scheme in my room and so I kept him as a pet and named him, "Robert." Then one day I found that he had brought two spiders home to play with. Then the next night the two spiders were wrapped in webs and Robert was eating them.

I dont' allow homocidal cannibals in my house, Robert had to go.

That's funny, considering daddylonglegs aren't spiders, don't make webs, lay their eggs in the soil/bark, and one would usually find them crawling along the ground over leaves. Hmm.

i don't think you can mistake a small spider for a daddylonglegs:

a typical house spider:

daddylonglegs:

pretty easy to see the difference i think

Ah, yes well I'm not the most versed spider-aire here. The only spider I know of is Spider-man and he doesn't even really count...

But I think that daddy long legs is flipping me off.

I only kill the ones that attack me first. I have a big itchy spider bite on me arm. The bastard got away before I could give him what was coming to him. If I saw a Black Widow or Brown Recluse in my house...

"I saw we take off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

To the orignal poster, maybe you should start keeping bats. That would probably take care of the spider problem.
