I am down to my last 6 Infiniti 60u00 filters and beginning to search for alternatives-so far here is what I see in premium filters for the Q

Pure-OneMobil 1WixAmsoil EAO38

Any one have any feedback on the above? The Amsoil looks very, very tempting, even though I am not a fan of their marketing and cult like distribution system {similar to Mary Kay, Amway,etc}

From research I did the pure-one is the best cheap filter for the price, and the mobil 1 is the best expensive filter for the price. The really exoensive K&N is supposed to be a mobil 1 with a nut welded on the top.

Wix,Champion Labs, Baldwin, Pure 1 are all excellent prods. we used the first 3 in our fleet of OTR trucks for many millions of miles. Also used them in the oil field crew & workboats. Not to say the others are not, it just seems sometimes paying more does not equate to a better prod but only to fund a greater ad budget. I realize I am parroting others with this suggestion of visiting

For the typical average driver in lower 49 states changing oil and filter every 90 days/3750 is much more protective than using a premium filter and changing full synthetic oil every 6 months and 7500 miles.

Obviously extreme drivers in extreme conditions can benefit by using the best most expensive of everything and changing frequently.

Since the demise of 60u00 I've just switched to the Y series seems to work ok for the last 4 changes but at 318k everyday is a prayer.

I am a member of Bobs, and spend quite a bit of time over there on the site-unfortunatly there is a bias from numerous amsoil dealers that make finding real solid info tainted, both in oil and filter recommendations-some possibly great products are stealthly talked down to make others seem better for financial benefit of those involved

I bet Joe beats them all.

Didn't Q45tech link us to a oil filter study for diesels? Probably was air filters.

qship96 you are spot on with your analysis of the bias. That said I think from reading your previous posts that you can separate the BS from the real. Still some very good info there. As with all forums, including......., there is a gem or two to be gleaned from the manure pile.

And that is why; I tooka the Evelyn Wood speeda readin coursea.

I think Joe sells the M1 filters for about the same price as the 50Y00. I bought some from him a few years back, and finally am coming to the end of my 60U00 filter stash as well.

The one concern I've heard about the M1 filter is that it filters so well (taking out smaller particles) that it might clog up faster than the OEM filter - and then go into bypass giving no filtration. So if you like to go with long oil change intervals, or have a lot of blow-by, you might want a different filter.

Good info. I have always been a 90 day oil changer, but am considering going to 120 days or 7000 miles, whichever comes first schedule based off of my oil analysis results {usually test 2x per year} using Redline / factory filter, as at 212,000 miles, I plan on replacing the Q between 250-275K and dont see the need for more frequent servicing to obtain that while retaining max performance from the engine til the end.Decisions, decisions!!

Mobil 1 filters from Joe are $6.50 each. That is what I am using. It seems to be a quality filter. I tried the Amsoil EaO38 for one OCI, and I went back to Mobil 1. The EaO38 is noticeably smaller than the Mobil 1 equivalent. Whether it has less filter media inside, I'm not sure.

These filters (and other options for the G50, I think) do not have bypass valves built in. Sticking to a good OCI schedule is important.

Absolutely, but Wal-Mart is nearby for when the oil changing mood strikes. Best of course is to just buy bulk from IOS.

Ive had good luck with the purolator gold (the blue ones). Otherwise, i think M1 are best for 60U00 replacements. if you watch the RB and VG30DETT forums, you can occasionally find people who still have a stash. i almost bought some but the guy didnt respond to my emails.. I still have about 6 60U00's left!!

Like tech said, if youdo the 90 day rule then you really cant go wrong!

Me too. A lot of members have done UOA's over there and proves that their synthetic oil ran fine with over 6k miles on it.

I detest stores like Walmart, target, circuit city, best buy, sams, etc. They have done more harm than good to the American buying habits- stupid untrained help with low prices have driven the specialty shops run by experienced, helpful people out of business. I would rather support the little local guy who earns your business thru expertise, enthusiasm, and relationship selling- even if it costs a little more.

True, but unfortunately those days are long gone. Since there are hardly any more "mom & pop" stores these days, I will keep going to Wal-Mart to purchase my oil & filter for cheap prices. I usually cut the untrained idiots out of the picture by doing the job myself. BTW, IOS is not the "little" guy. The shipping charges negates the savings UNLESS you are buying multiple items. $8 for IOS air filter, $12 at the dealer...I will just purchase at the dealer when I need my next one.

The trick to saving with Joe, or other online suppliers is to plan ahead and stock needed items in your basement....I ordered 25 oil filters years ago from joe, half dozen air filters,etc......72 quarts of Redline oil, 36 quarts redline ATF, 6 qt diff lube {not from joe, but 7.24 delivered price per qt, as compared to $9.49 at most places}, etc.... catch the 5$ shipping special occasionally offered and order in bulk what you will use in the next 24-36 months

With $5 shipping, NO TAXES, and 25% off retail dealers prices....a no brainer as far as HUGE savings and nice to have needed supplies on hand, and nice competent friendly service to boot from I.O.S.

The difference between imipluse maintenance and planned preventative maitenance.

Still about 20 filters left, but the VH41DE was converted to M1 long ago. Plan ahead and buy bulk from Joe. Even saves trips to the store and sales tax.

Brian is correct... all about planning ahead and starting to shop for deals way in advance from when you need something....I bought 4 Pilot Exaltos in Jan during a Tirerack special that will be installed in June...total $200 {after mounting/balancing} less than I paid for last set in 2005 when I just swung by the local tire store and opened wallet

Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters are made by Champion Labs and are a higher quality filter.

2005 total= $651.002008 total= $436.00

***** both prices above were for the 225/60/VR 15 pilot Exalto*******

lino, may I inquire as to the source of the info referring to M1 extended being a Champion lab prod superior to Champion lab Super Tech filter.

This is not a ball buster question. Inquiring minds want to know.

Hope it warms there soon.

Thanks

Captain- from what I understand both are made by Champion labs, however the M1 product uses better materials.... synthetic filter element instead of paper, better anti drainback valve material {how much any of this actually affects functioning of filter is a wildassguess?

There was a link about who made which filter. Wonder if it is still active?

Here's a study which might be the original link

Claims Champion makes M1.

I believe that to be correct. Glad to see it had been updated since''99'' as many companies buy & sell as if a monopoly game.

At least they have not yet been outsourced to Mexico or India or China. (that we know of)

Unlike the P.O.S. 2007 Chevy 1500 made in beautiful downtown GUADALAHARA.But it is a free truck w/free gas so I am not complaining to loudly.

We have one Nissan Titan in the fleet made in Canton Ms. Absolute fit & trim quality as well as a BEAST. Drives so sweet & fast fast fast.

Sad man. Sad. Tacoma's are made in California. Many Japanese vehicles are built in the U.S. while the domestics are building outside. Sad when a foriegn country creates American jobs and we take our own away by outsourcing. By buying Japanese cars we support America. Wierd. American greed is our countries greatest curse. I give Chrysler five years. With a couple exceptions their cars are all lame and ugly anyways.
