Got a bit more help this weekend:

A local 240 guy did a headlight conversion and gave me his old ones for free! Free is gooood.

So, one less thing!

He's also letting me have his old KA (he just did an SR20 swap), so we're going to stab that into the chassis tomorrow so I can fab the turbo system and the rest of the front end. Having a full slug in the engine bay will let me see where I can lose some weight up front (God knows I'm not going on adiet anytime soon). And remember, I got this car as a rolling chassis wit the old racing engine in the TRUNK! So, I've never seen this thing with a motor in it.

I'll have updates tomorrow night...stay tuned!!

Ken

So...the STS fairy is leaving me a present...and it looks something like this:

Backside:

Full frontal:

I feel dirty...

I'll give you the full details and many photos when the kit hits my doorstep and the "behind the driver" turbo fabrication begins.

bye.

Am I mistaken or is that a twin scroll turbo?

I cant wait to see some specs on that beast, any chance we could get a pressure map?

Im getting excited.

I don't think the turbo I'm getting is twin scroll. I think that's an option, but not on what I'm getting. Here's what I DO know about the turbo they're sending: Garrett 60-1 ball bearing. They're sending both the .36 and .48 ex housing to give me some options. It's my understanding that the .36 will spool faster, but limit top end and that the .48 will come on later but give me incredible top end. Either way, good for 550-600hp. We're expecting 425-475whp at altitude (Pikes Peak race starts at 9400', then up to 14,110'). They're sending a TiAL wastegate (unsure of size) and a TiAL BOV (should be pull type). I'm thinking that my red line will be in the neighborhood of 6500-7000. The block is essentially race prepped and I'll be adding a good set of forged pistons and steel h-beam rods. What compression ratio? 8.5 or 9.0? Will the 9.0:1 help me transition from motor to boost in the tightest corners? What are the disadvantages of higher compression ratios (above 8.5:1) with a turbo? Also, lets talk about head and intake porting...It's my understanding that the stock intake on the KA is pretty good without modification. I will be stripping it down to the bare minimum and I already have a Q45 TB for it. I just need to weld on the new flange. Will a gasket match (which it already has) be sufficient here, or should I spend some time blending and smoothing?

Bye!

A few more things going on...but first off I need to thank my Sponsor, Sick Tea. The owner of Sick Tea, Tim Megenbier, is sending me to the Bondurant School in Phoenix for a four day Grand Prix course! I can't wait! This is going to be a great opportunity for me to spend some time on track with a professional instructor.

Here's a few updates on the car. I'm getting the steering column set, finally. And I'm in the process of modifying thre firewall for the dual caliper brake setup.

There it is. Hopefully I'll get the pedal set installed this weekend. I'm expecting the master cylinders any day...that'll help.

Bye!

Got a few new photos from last weekends work.

The Wilwood pedal set is mocked up...mostly. Needs a couple top mounts.

Remote Master Cylinder set.

More surgery in the trunk area. Removed the factory frame rails. They'll be replaced with 1.25" pipe for the main structure that will support the fuel cell. Then a combination of .5 and .75 pipe will form the structure for the body supports and the supports that will transfer downforce from the rear wing to the chassis.

This is what your dash is made of.

Naked dash...light weight.

New steering column mock up. still needs a couple more braces behind dash bar.

Turbo is here. I'll post some pics of the kit tonight.

That's all for now.

Bye.

And the fun begins.

The air squeezer is here. Here's a few highlits:

Optional 048 turbine housing. The one installed is an 036.

The STS oil pump and the TiAL 38mm wastegate.

What I have of the kit so far. Still waiting for the pipes, clamps, wiring harness, hoses and the BOV.

Squeeze side.

Turbine side.

Much fabrication to begin. Wait till you see where it gets mounted...

Bye!

So, my buddy Johnny came over today and we managed to get the turbo mounted in the back seat (yes, we put it there on purpose). We also got the exhaust done up to the turbo and the first part of the exhaust past the turbo. It will at least give you an idea where the exhaust will exit the vehicle.

For your viewing pleasure:

If you can tell what you're looking at here, then you'll know where the exhaust is going to exit the car.

That's all I have for now.

Decided to test fit the wheels and tires and mock up the suspension so I can see what's missing and what needs to be modified. Luckily with the current wheel and tire combination (275/40-17 rear, and 245/45-17 front) we won't need to go widebody. Which is huge since we can't afford it. Looks like we can just roll the fenders and call it soup.Tomorrow we put the diffuser in place and the fuel cell should get mounted, as well.

See Ya.

Thanks for the help offer. I'd love to see what the car will look like with all of my sponsors on it. I don't have a clue on photoshop. Just a basic body...just with the back cut up a bit. Can you do that?

Me too! I suck at it. I have to call on my dad to do all of my critical welds.

Can I ask you a question about the front spindle. It looks like the front spindle was modified to fix the bump steer, but how bout the roll center? I can't really see in the picture but has some sort of spacer added to correct it? Also, has the rear suspension been adjusted for roll center as well? Any more pix of the spindle and lower control arm would be appreciated! Thanks!

Did some stuff today.

Here's the new coil overs. These are Moton double adjustable.

Got the cage ready for a new main support and cross bars. We are replacing these so we can optimize the driver location with a HANS capable seat. The old bars forced the seat a little too far forward.

Trimmed up the Dash a bit more.

That's all for today.

This week we are ordering the seat. We're going with the Momo Daytona, which you can see here: http://protuningperformance.co....aspx

I'm also re-working the diffuser and should have some updates on that next weekend, as well.

Bye!

The roll center is is corrected by two things: The spindle has been modified and the control arm has been modified, as well. The control arm has been chopped at both ends and heim joints have replaced the ball joint on the outside and the bushing on the inside. I don'thave them in the shop rightnow to get you some ictures but when I get them back I'll snap a few photos for you.

Bye.

Wow! I just read your build, Totally awesome! Question I thought your class had to use OEM Nissan pistons and rods. If you are going to use Forged Check out higher compression. Tuned Correctly you'll have greater advantages over a lower comp.

Can you explain how you get sponsored, Do you just simply call the companies or write them a package? I have a pretty sweet Build nothing like this, and im going to post it up when im done.

The class this car originallyy ran in, back in it's speedvision touring car days, had to use Nissan internals. The class I'm running in is wide open. This motor will use mostly aftermarket internals and a turbo.

For the sponsors, I had a few connections and others I just put together a sponsorship package and sent it off to the company.

Looks like it's coming along nicely. Did anyone ever get in touch with you about engine management?
