None, other than I have bought and sold 2 cars since the last one, but Im going to be hitting the rally car hard very soon.

The garage is clearing out, Ive got money in the bank, and May is coming way too fast. Once things get rolling, I foresee the car coming together in a hurry. There really isnt too much stuff left to do besides body work.

Things I still need to buy.

Belts
First Aid kit
Spill kit
Rally computer
Visual package
up to date fire extinguishers

I need to get the car done before I have to pack everything up and move 2 hours north to Duluth. If all goes to plan, Rally Minnesota should be the kick off to a new home, a new job, and life outside the city.

Ian,

If it comes down to it, I have two rally computers. One is an Alfa Checkpoint and can be run of a VSS signal (there should be one somewhere in there, even if the speedo is cable, the ECU still wants a VSS), which would probably be less than ideal, but better than nothing. You can get wheel sensors for them as well, though i don't have those.

The other is a Terratrip 404, but that'll be in the Sentra.

Belts, first aid kit, and extinguishers, call Charles @ safedrives.com He'll get you stuff quick and at a good price.

I believe that you don't need the actual R-A visual kit at a regional event, but it's cheap enough and convenient.

Spill kits. I need to find a vendor that actually has them. If you find one, let me know.

Thanks mark. Im not too worried about coming up with money for stuff. Just the time to install it. I've dealt with safe drives before, they are good people. I also hope to be running a terratrip 404. The s13 uses a digital vss, but I has a heavy foot, so accuracy would be ishy.

Mini min update. The shop is cleans, and the gravel slut is back in her home. Time for bodywork.

Looks like a get away car from a Zombie movie lol. All it needs is a front grill with spikes!! That car is awesome and good luck. A few guys in Cali did some off road stuff with a Datsun 280Z. Fun stuff. :dblthumb:

About to start working on the car, but first a mini update. I just got word that I have been assigned an official car number.

From here on out, the NicoClub rally car will be known as car #240.

Not luck, I requested it.

As for the car, first round of sanding is complete. Need to do some spot work, and get the tight areas, then I can lay some primer.

Hey man what's up. How is everyone in the KS doin?

Pictureless update. I have pictures, but no time to upload at home, currently posting from my phone at work.

First layer of body filler is down, and sanding is pretty much complete otherwise. Just need to sand the body filler, and I can lay primer.

Not sure what i want to do with the paint yet. Dont have time to go wild, but plaine is boring. Its up in the air unless I pick up a serious sponsor.

Freaking fantastic. Well we are, cars are in need of a little work, but then we wouldn't be 240 owners. lol But Dano, and float_6969, and I are having are first spring meet here on the 19th! Expecting quite a few cars. Hope its not too cold up north, i can't work on my car in the cold.

You could do a classic nissan paint with the white, and red and blue stripe. I really like those, but its kind of a hit and miss. Blue is too much of a subaru thing. Hmmmmm lol I'll be keeping up with this build.

what series or class are you competing in? WRC is the end of my rally knowledge

Ive been seeing Dano's stack of parts pictures on the Book of Faces. Looks like you guys have some fun ahead of you.

I have played with the idea of BRE, it would be awesome, but hard to pull off. I have also thought about all blue, like WRB subaru blue. It would be funny, at least to me. I have also thought about flat black, because, well, its me.

Group 2. Its basically 2 wheel drive, naturally aspirated, low displacement, open class.

Nice, Subaru blue would be cool.

I'm guessing thats SCCA or does NASA have a class?

SCCA no longer does stage rally events IIRC. Rally America took over all of the SCCA events.

NASA does have some stage rally events, I think, but none nearby.

Here is a basic rundown of the R-A class structure

Open - High power, turbocharged AWD cars with very few restrictions.
Open Light - Same as open, but no turbos
Group 5 - Large displacement/turbocharged 2wd cars.
Group 2 - Low displacement 2wd cars, no turbos
Production - Stock NA cars, with upgraded suspension, and safety equipment
Super Production - Same as above, but with factory turbo cars.

This is just off the top of my head, so nobody quote me on it. I believe NASAs class structuring for stage rally is similar.

Since my car is a b13, the body lines are really close to an N14 (if you ignore the fact that it's a 2-door and not a hatch), so I'm going for the 90's NME red/white/blue "wave" look on my car.

As such:

Pretty much right on, one thing to remember is that Group 2 has displacement/weight limits. So your KA24 with a SOHC needs to weigh 2271# minimum (or 2381# for a DOHC).

My SR20DE DOHC only needs to weigh 2205#

Most cars aren't all that close anyhow, so it becomes a non-issue unless you're doing an all-out build.

I wonder how they come up with the liter to weight ratio? Does dual or single cam effect your weight (i don't think it would)? This is really interesting me.

Sorry to thread jack Ian, do you know how they come up with the ratio?

It's based off the Finnish Group F rules.

It has to do with power/weight ratios. The rule is actually 2-valve vs. more that 2-valves per cylinder. Since the multi-valve engines can make more power, they are required to have more weight. It's an attempt to make things fairer across a class that could contain everything from a 750cc Daihatsu to a 3.0L VQ30DE stuffed into a Datsun 510 (that would be wicked fun).

We should get everyone together who's worked on the car in some capacity and put our handprints on it, a la Australian aborigines.
