Ok, finally a real update.

Thanks to some help from Dave, all of the lexan is back in. I just need to add a few more rivets, and seal all the rivets up, and it will be done.

I think I have the skid plate at least mostly worked out in my head, I just need to make the run to the mill to pick up some material.

I should be able to get lighting situation squared away within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Im excited to build the light bar.

My new Pulstar spark plugs just showed up from http://www.sparkplugs.com. Ill be trying these plugs out, and writing a review. I was actually pretty surprised when they showed up, the packaging at least is pretty unique. Its a little thing to be impressed by, but sometimes, its the little things that matter.

I have pictures, but no time to post them.

I signed up for a rallycross tomorrow. Going to go give the new rear suspension a beating. Wish me luck.

Fail, I got the dates wrong. Someone told me Sunday, (they are always on Sunday) and I never even checked to be sure. Whoops.

One year from SATURDAY...

More proof that Ian was born to be a driver :chuckle:
Ian, drivers need a good co-driver telling them where and when to go, just look what happened at x-games!

So I finally got around to installing the Pulstar Spark plugs I got from http://www.sparkplugs.com.

Like I said earlier, the packaging is pretty nifty. Sealed in pairs, threaded into cases, wow.

Image

They are so pretty I almost dont want to put them into the car.

Image

Image

EWww, see what I mean? Still muddy from Omaha.

Image

Image

The autolites that came out. With only 100 miles on them or so, they are already carboned up. I really need to fix the CTS. These were a bandaid fix after the failing fuel pump sending unit destroyed my last set of decent plugs.

Image

Image

Image

The Iridium tips on the Pulstar's look nice compared to the elcheapo copper autolite's. Too bad I was being captain shaky hands, and I blurried up the picture.

Image

New plugs installed, and torqued to spec.

Image

I finished by using some of the included dielectric grease to enhance conduction, then I reinstalled the plug wires.

First impressions. The engine seems to cold idle better, which is good, because it did not cold idle at all before. The warm idle seems unchanged, but it idled perfectly when hot before, so alls well that ends well.

With only a little time behind the wheel, its hard to notice any difference, but it does pull well all the way to readline. I will report back about them once I get some solid practice time in.

Before leaving for the night, I'll throw up the pictures of the reinstalled rear windows. Im still a few rivets short for the hatch window, but you get the idea, I think it turned out really slick.

Image

Image

Just a few more things, and it will be time to start body work.

For the past month or so I click on this thread when it gets bumped preparing myself for another awesome update only to find little comments lol.
I agree on the Lexan looking smooth. If you painted the rivets black it would look almost OEM.

Everybody got lost without their co-drivers. The whole thing was decided by a series of red flags, including the final run.

Forget the body work man, you gotta get that thing to LSPR, pretty should be the LAST thing on your list!

Its not about pretty, its about acceptable. I need to fix the roof, the hatch, the drivers door, and the passenger fender. It needs to be brought back from dead zone. Its not about the work at this point. To be honest, if I but my head down and pushed, I could have the car stage ready in less than a month. Its about money, or the lack there of. Unless I find a partner who can contribute finacially, I will just be plugging along, buying the stuff I need as I can.

Speaking of buying stuff. I picked up a 49" x 30" aluminium plate. 1/4" thick 6061 T6. Hello skid plate. I also happened upon a deal on 6 silverstone rally tires, some of which are like new. That brings me up to 12 useable gravel tires.

I got pictures of my skid plate material. I just need to add a bend, and some holes, and I can install. That is a lot of aluminium.

I have not been working on the race car much, as the truck needed my attention. The OE bumper was barely held on, and did not enjoy bumping into things on my forays into the woods. I remedied the situation with steel. Its a work in progress, but Im almost done, just need to bring the bottom tube up at an angle to meet the top, then wing back to protect the fenders.

quick question, you mentioned your fuel pump sending unit failing. My fuel gauge only works when it drops below the half tank mark. Someone said that it was my sending unit. Is this the fuel pump sending unit or is there a gauge sending unit?

That is the gauge sending unit. The fuel pump sending unit is just a fancy word for the passthrough for the wiring on the fuel pump cover.

If your fuel gauge only works below half tank, it could be the gauge, or the fuel level sensor.

Ok, Im not dead, I promise, I have just been working a ton. I did get some stuff done though.

I got my old S13 coupe torn apart, so I could get rid of the shell.

Image

Lots O rust.

Image

Image

Image

Lots of good spares.

Image

She looks so sad.

Image

Everyone wave goodbye.

Image

Image

Then I went home and cut my uggy roof off.

Image

And trimmed the roof from the coupe to fit.

Image

Fits pretty good.

Image

Then I sealed it up, and riveted it down.

Image

Ah MY BEST ROOF.
Good riddance.

Image

Check out my stack of spare tires.

Well Im off to work, hopefully I can figure out how to bend my skip plate, and get the light bar built. Then it will be time for body work.

Good stuff.

It was all busted up on the passenger side, not worth saving.

Me too, but this one was not worth saving. There was so much rust, I cant believe I drove the car for as long as I did.
mattblancarte wrote:Just noticed the lexan... mega badass.
Thanks, there are so many pop rivets on the car now, its starting to look like an air plane.

Im thinking about riveting on some hood vents, and over fenders, just to add more.

Kidding, I promise.

Any reason you riveted the roof on as opposed to welding it?
