I guess I will throw these pictures up since I have them.

Here is a close up of some of the nastier cracking. It was caused by too short of a dry time for the POR 15. I took this after 2 days of dry time, right before re sanding. Having painted many things, I would have considered myself better than this, but its my first time using POR, so I will chalk it up to a learning experience.

Sanded, cleaned, and resprayed.

I need to get the cage inspected so I can move on with paint, and dig into reassembly.

That reminds me, I need an engine. Anybody want to donate a KA24DE? Even a blown one would be ok, as I plan to use SOHC pistons.

What? No sr20de?

And I would suggest painting the cage a flat color if you want it bright, because like stated above it will reflect onto the windsheild and maybe your eyes.

For a couple of reasons I have settled on a KA for now. First of all being cost. I can make low end torque for cheap which will help out in the corners. Plus, I wont feel so bad if I blow one up right away. Also, if I do decide to jump up to G5, then I will either need something turbo SR20DET, or something with higher dispacement to be even remotely competitive.

If I have time/money, Id like to give the DE with SOHC pistons swap a try. I think it could be fun, though Id rather not run race fuel.

Had a few minutes tonight, so I tack clothed the engine bay, and layed down a few coats of gloss white. It looks good, but there are a few areas where the white shows off imperfections far more than the primer did. I will need to do some wet sanding, and lay some more paint before I hit it with clear.

Makes for an interesting comparison, white front, black back.

Well, I have my hotel reservations for the NANC (http://www.nissanconvention.com/). Im registered, and have put in for my vacation. Its time to buckle down. The car does not need to be rally ready, but it will need to be driveable, and capable of passing tech. I will be putting more effort into building, and less into pictures, and for that I apologize.

Lets see if I can do it.

Just participated in a rallycross event last weekend. It was fun as hell, and I wish you best of luck on your future racing endeavors!

If you ever end up at an event in the deep south, I will be there, loaner helmet in hand, with my SCCA weekend pass form filled out and liability waiver signed! Huzzah!!

Nice Work Ian!

First of all, what dumb a$$ would paint his race car pink...? That just sounds stupid...

Also, I have a pair of IMSA spec "pink" cams that were left over from the motor that came with our car. These should really wake up and NA motor. Wish I could tell you the specs, but I don't have a clue. Maybe someone on here has some details. They appear to be in good shape if you're interested. I also have the Nismo flat top pistons (what is that, 11...12:1 maybe) and Rods from that same IMSA motor. The rings are crap, but no big deal. Let me know what you think and we can work something out.

I like flo green for the roll cage...except the front of the a-pillar bars and the front of the halo bar...gotta be flat black (no glare). The inside of them can still be green, just paint the sun-side flat black.

Rally America is back at Pikes Peak this year...so get it done before June and come on!

1. KA-T...Don't throw away .4 liters. Abusing ours at altitude and revving to 7200...works great.

2. E85-E95. Plentiful in your area and cheap. We're getting GREAT results with this stuff. Run essentially whatever CR you want, plus cooler operating temps. win-win.

Call me if you want to discuss details of either.

Im limited to NA for now due to Rally America rules, which is ok, because I am poor, and turbo's are expensive.

I know more than Id like to about E85. Ive had some experience with it, and a bunch of my car buddies have really gotten in to in. I've though about it, but most likely wont. I would need new injectors, as well as a better pump, plus it would greatly decrease the distance I could travel on a single tank of gas, and in stage rally that distance is really important. Not to mention, I have to go through extra scrutineering because its an alternative fuel.

Maybe next year when I have the car sorted, and have some more money to play with. Right now, my goal is getting the car race ready, and reliable.

As for the cams, and pistons/rods. Once I get a line on an engine, I will decide exactly what I need to do.

I have all of it figured out in theory. I have all the parts, its just a matter of assembling everything, installing all the bushings, and fitting it all to the car. All my control arms and such are sitting in the corner waiting for my attention.

Those dampers for the win!! Cant wait to see it all put together..

Got any pics of control arms? If they're aftermarket or modded of course..

Control arms will be stock, with poly bushings. Control arms get bent often, and I cant afford to replace expensive aftermarket arms every other race.

I have some extra sohc pistons i'd sell on the cheap for the project (email me if interested). I dont know if e85 common around you but, that is the poor mans race gas. If you dont plan on boosting the ka then go ka24e pistons, 370cc injectors, e85 and a safc.

Why not solid bushings, is there an advantage to having poly in terms of the way it transfers the heavy shock you'll be putting it through? Reason I ask is that poly bushings bind on certain arms...I used to know it by heart but I *believe* its the tension rods and the sway bar endlinks that you need to avoid using poly.

Not sure how bad itll affect you when your suspension gets all out of whack from binding but I figured Id alert you anyway

In that case would it be possible to reinforce them to increase longevity?

We are avoiding solid metal bushings because we need at least a little rubber play so that the whole car doesn't shake itself to death. It would be great to be able to run solid bushing but that vibration is going to end up somewhere, and we would rather it end up in rubber. Thanks for the heads up on the binding issue, I'm sure Ian has looked into it, and we will figure it out when we get there. Tonight, we finish painting and wet sanding the interior. We will also start pressing bushings and assembling some more of the suspension.

We are also considering the cf wrapped cage, but it may be to costly and time consuming. I have 2 sq. yards of carbon fiber, so there will be some things I make out of CF, but I don't know if I can let $200 worth of CF wrap the cage, it just hurts my insides.
