1. Make sure you have all the air out of the cooling system. Raise the front of the car (so bubbles go up to the rad), put a large funnel in the rad, fill the funnel halfway, turn on the car and let it run for like 15 minutes (rev the engine once in a while). There should be no bubbles coming out after a while. If there are, then something is wrong. If no bubbles, it shouldn't be overheating anymore.
2. What does the exhaust smell like? Antifreeze out of the exhaust has a pretty distinct smell.
3. Is there white smoke all the time? It's normal to have white smoke while the car is warming up. Water that condensed in the exhaust/cat is evaporating while the car is heating up.
4. Take it to a shop and tell them that you think your HG is blown. Unless they're total bastards, they'll probably take a quick look at it for free.
5. Sell your car, and put the money towards something that doesn't need so much work (like an S14).
