Is this normal? None of the interior lights come on when the back hatch is open, even though they are set to come on when the doors are open. Very annoying when trying to find something in the back at night. Usually have to use my emergency flashlight when something specific needs to be found.

Oh and on a completely different note has anyone who bought their rogue in 09 done their taxes yet and gotten the new car sales tax deduction, trying to figure this out now... My sales taxes is listed with the "Cash Price" of the vehicle, but I can't figure out if the purchase price is the "cash price" minus the sales tax or if I should just list the "cash price" as the purchase price. Gah! Taxes are annoying!

Normal. I found the hatch light is enough for me. If I need the back seat light. Usually, when I open the doors.

Tax, usually ends up around $400-600 on the car.

Granted none of the forward interor lights come on (the ones that come on when you open one of the four main doors)... but hopefullly your rear hatch interior light comes on. I find my rear hatch light offers more than enough light to dig around in the back. If your rear hatch light is not coming on check the switch located on the edge of the rear hatch light fixture. It has an off/off postition.

Well when I get out of the front seat and close the door, by the time I get around to digging around in the back all the lights have switched off and its totally dark in the back, especially right up against the rear seats. You mean the light in the back seat? That would be plenty of light if it came on when I opened the back but it doesn't. Unless by hatch light you mean something else? Other than the "map lights" in the front and the backseat lights there are no other interior lights in my rogue or on the hatch or whatever...

Well I know that the sales taxes were $1200, but it says the Cash Price is including taxes, so to get the purchase price would I subtract the sales tax from the cash price?

Totally did not know that there was a light back there...gonna run outside and check it out know, today seems wonderful for learning new things about a car i've had for 9 months...I JUST found my second 12V DC outlet, still disappointed that it doesn't charge unless the car is on, not the end of the world but it was a nice feature in my chevy(bought the only nice thing about that car)

Lol yeah, well I use those all the time, love the feature that even if I don't remember to turn the map lights off before I get out of the car, they don't stay on for long after its locked, got stuck at a mall once in the chevy when the light wasn't turned off and it killed the battery...

I am sad to learn however that my LG Xenon phone is listed as not compatible with the bluetooth system...the only problem I have with it is when receiving calls, its answers the call but it doesn't stay synced so I have to dig my phone out of where ever it is and listen to who ever called complain about my music being too loud, lol. But if I make the call it works fine, so oh well. I thought the Xenon and the Rogue made a nice pair(and the colors are almost identical) but apparently not.

When I open my hatch I don't have any lights come on. I have the S AWD. Is the hatch light only available on the SL models?

Okay MAYBEEEEEEEEEEEEE, your NOT ahead of the Ball Game. That's NOT the map lights. Those are the Interior Lights!

The map lights is this itsy bitsy teeny weenie microscopic barely perceptible orange glow near the rear view mirror I guess that looks like an ANT might be shining his orange flashlight at you. Small orange led glow. Yah, we didn't know what it was either. A bomb? No..a gps beacon? No...it was a freaking map light. Actually useful to read some piece of paper if need be. Like a map? I guess. But wont we use the interior lights? Well I actually use the orange light. Follow the light....lol.

Merry Christmas, yet again. Learn something new.!

I'd hate to think Nissan considered the cargo area light to be an upgrade. I would think it to be a standard item. But I've been wrong before.

Anyway... to be sure... if your hatch is open, turn your backside to the cargo area and sit down, then lay back lay back and look up at the inside of the hatch door. (Or just crawl into the back seat and examine the hatch door from inside the vehicle while the hatch is closed)

From inside the car the light fixture is on the right a few inches below the bottom edge of the window.

According to specs at least, the cargo light is standard on all Rogue's regardless of trim or year.

But this question has come up before. I have to search the old threads to see.

Has anyone replaced the standard bulb with a 6 or 9 LED? Was wondering if it makes a difference.

You're thinking of the ambient lighting, casperfun. The map lights are the large lights you push to turn on/off. They are located on both sides of the sunglasses holder.

Hmmm, there have been reports of the S model NOT having the cargo area light. Not sure which year(s) this is the case.

Well, not to split hairs... although that little orange glowing lamp does indeed offer "ambient lighting"... per Nissan... they refer to it as "Mood lighting" (More on the SL Model's mysterious orange glowing mood light can be found in these threads)

Yes... its been done. As you know, there are 6 and 9 LED lamp assemblys that can replace the current factory bulbs. (stock bulb on bottom)

However...be aware, unless I missed a new LED on the market, you may not be satisfied with the light output. Not all LED's are created equal. Although LED's can offer a "Whiter" light, they usually don't offer the same amount of illumination.

You bet me to it! Yep, in digging thru other forums/threads its does indeed appear Nissan discontinued the rear hatch light in some 2009 S models. (Wasn't able to determine if it was a AWD versus FWD delineation.)

I have an 08 S model rogue and yes, there is no cargo light. That is a premium option reserved for the SL models :-P There also are no vanity mirrors in the sun visors.

I believe nissan eliminated a bunch of wiring in the S model to cut down on costs but removing the trunk light is taking it a little too far. It's one of the only things I don't like about my Rogue.

Well... if you're handy, its not that difficult to add one. Check out the second reply in this thread from philipa. Sounds like a great solution. Although philipa is talking about a Ford Escort, I've had the ceiling trim down in the Rogue and the principle would be the same. zerothread?id=443738

That's actually my thread I haven't got around to checking that out yet. I'm always worried about cracking the plastic clips when taking panels off.

Well... I did some checking around and this manufacturer claims that their 9 LED assembly was custom designed exclusivly for them, is easy to install and will illiuminate the entire trunk area.

No worries. I pulled off my roof trim panel off when installing an aftermarket spoiler. I was surprized at how easy it came off and "with no tools!"

Nissan instructions identify using a Nissan trim removal tool to remove the interior trim but it is unnecessary as the trim easily pops out. Simply insert your fingers between the glass and trim near the center of the trim piece and pull. The latches are simple cabinet style spring clips and the panel just pops out. Actually removing this piece of trim isn't necessary when installing a hatch door light but it might fishing the wires down to the new light fixtureor up thru the grommet a little little easier.

Trim - Spring Clips

Next, remove the screws holding the dome light so it can be dropped down. Now, move to the back of the vehicle. Find the two round retainer plugs that hold the headliner to the celing (located a few inches in from the top edge of the hatch gasket) and pop them out. (I use two table knifes one on each side of the retainerso I can pull down evenly) Then... using a coat hanger... just fish wires between the headliner and the roof from the back of the hatch over to the dome light you just dropped and splice in the wiring. Obviously you'll need to fish the wires up thru the rear hatch grommet and into the rear hatch to the location of your new light fixture but it shouldn't be real difficult. (Just time consuming)

I just went to the car to look under the hatch and there is no light there. Instead there are plastic covers in place of where the hatch light is supposed to be. What a bummer. Although there are stick on lights I can buy, I just thought this would be a standard feature.

I have a 2009 S FWD and I do not see the light on my hatch unless it is behind the plastic cover. Does anyone have this model with the light?

In the owners manual, there is a page that has an illustration pointing out various interior features. One being the rear cargo light. It has the dreaded asterisk (* If so equipped). It appears it may be part of the SL trim.I have an AWD S and it does NOT include a rear cargo light.

We have a 2010 S 360 that did not have a cargo light. Imagine our surprise when loading groceries for the first time at night. Nissan could not have been serious.

However, pulling out the lift gate trim revealed a pre-wired connection for the light. I simply ordered the OEM light and plugged it right in. Here are the steps:

Order the Luggage Room Courtesy Lamp (P/N 26490-CA000).Pull the trim from the top of the lift gate.Remove the pillar trim.Remove the plastic fasteners form the bottom of the gate.Carefully remove the gate trim panel. You should notice the light socket taped to the harness on the drivers side of the gate.On the drivers side of the gate trim panel, you should see a perforation for the OEM light. This should be in the approximate location of the light socket.

You'll have to cut a hole in the panel for the light to "snap in" snuggly. I'll leave that to your imagination. Just be careful not to cut the hole too big or the light wont hold.

In the "ON" position, the light acts just like the OEM, turning on when the gate is opened and off when it's closed. Looks like it belongs.

Hi,

We also just got a 2010 s 360 and I picked up the oem light for it. Is there another piece other then the light that goes where the perforated spot is on the gate trim panel? I don't see how the light by itself is going to stay in place.

Well I am new here but read all the pages on the Rogue lol.

Anywho, You only have to take of the bottom of the gate trim. You really dont need to take off hte top or side trims. Now here where you have to make a decision....Either you do what Parks69 and myself did ( open a hole by the perforated square on the gate trim cargo light is $24.00 and you cant even noticed that it does not belong unless you stare at it or...

Spend 135.00 US for a gate trim that brings the hole for the cargo light and buy the cargo light assembly. You will be looking at about $160.00 for the whole thing.

By the way i did find another unused electrical connection near the cargo plug...wonder what that is for...maybe for the rear camera? I believe that our 2010 Rogues are pre wired for all the extras, but i could be wrong.

Next stop for me will be the vanity visors..cant seem to find them cheap tho.

Hi ErMasta,

Are you saying you installed your light without the trim? Do you have a part number for the cargo light trim? Also, if you find those vanity mirrors cheap let me know. I picked up a cheap mirror from walmart, but it is already digging into the roof material. I wish they would of included some of these little things. I test drove a sl first, but thought I was only giving up the premium radio when going to the s360. Want to do the fog lights also, looks like they are pre-wired too.
