Other than that, the LS9.

VRH35L, they're out of production now (the car they made them for wasn't a huge success) so you shouldn't have much problem picking one up for cheap.

Weird no one mentioned the S20 :(

Not the most famous or most powerful Nissan engine but it powered some pretty bad a** Nissans :)

For fame and longevity, it's hard to match the L series. It powered many cars and the design has been putting heads to bed for decades.

Nail right on the head. L series is above and beyond THE Nissan(Datsun) motor.

I beleive the question is the most famous Nissan motor, not the best or most common. So IMHO the most famous has become the SR20DET primarily because of the FNF movies and drifting. I'm sorry, if you said "VQ" to a non-enthusiast, they're gonna think you're referring to ice cream, and if you say RB, they're gonna think music.

Yeah the SR is pretty popular.

Some of the Honda guys I've met know what the SR is, but don't even know what the KA is.

That is why you must stomp them at the track... then they'll know what a KA is ;)

The SR is famous to youngsters. The SR is decent engine and has some racing life, but it's not established the longevity and history of the L.

The FJ is a formidable engine and had its moment, but it was an incredibly brief one.

The S was similarly potent and a little longer used, but still too rare.

The A was a tough little engine, but a stolen design.

The KA and CA are also rans.

The contenders for fame are the L and the RB with the little SR taking up the rear.

Now as you watch this L lay down 400+hp through carburetors realize that design is over 40 years old and the block and head over 30 years old. When I see a 30 year old SR still kicking a** in 2020 we can talk. ;)
