Seriously...how many of you are voting for the s12 because of the novelty factor? TOOLS...all of you! Worse than the initial D fanboys.

Well I can't speak for the others that voted for the 200sx...but I've always loved the s12.

I've been a member of clubs12 for a couple years now. I've always been looking for one that's clean and I still vow to own one.

These cars are SICK (especially the V6's....gotta love it)

You gotta really love the s12 to keep one. After market sucks, camber adjustment/toe adjustments in the rear are almost impossible to correct without tampering the crap out of the rear trailing arms; and it would still be negative toe/camber.

My original motor was a ca20e, which had no power what so ever. Just enough to do some donuts. Then I moved up to a ca18det, spun a bearing about 1 1/2 later. Now I'm running a s13 sr20det blacktop in it with full s13 suspension conversion in the front, soon to be rear.

Thanks for those who voted for my s12, I personally like them better as well.

Here are some engine bay shots

Drive one of each, with similar mods, and you will find your answer. The Corolla is much much more fun to drive, which to me, is the only thing that matters.

I never worked on or drove either one, but almost bought a new hatch S12 (the coupe is just to boxy for me...) in 1988. As much as I like Nissan's, the Hachi gets my vote when it comes to looks.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

That S12 would get a lot fewer Hachi comments if it weren't trying so hard to look like one. Is there tofu shop sticker on the other side?

So what? This IS a Nissan site and some are voting by looks of the two cars alone. I did the exact same thing and voted for the aggressive look of the S12 and because I am more of a Nissan enthusiast than a Toyota enthusiast.

Before you go flabbing off at the mouth I have owned a Corolla. Granted, not a AE86, the '83 AE72 coupe I owned for 280k miles is pretty close (4A-C sohc vs 4A-GE dohc).

ive always loved the look of the s12's. i drove one when i was 13 that was wicked fast. it had an lz22 that reved to 8k, 16.1:1 compression, 5.33 gears. actually it was just an s12 body on a tube chassis but it looked badass.

Flabbing off at the mouth? The s12 looks like a hatcheerowkew with down-syndrome. Hows THAT for flabbing at the mouth. And the differences between driving an ae72 and an ae86 are quite large...so I still reserve the right to flab my mouth.

I take a week off and look what happens. NICO's most infamous S12 owner (ME.. ) does have an opinion on this, but you know what it is...

S12 rocks. Even though I own the bastard child of the Z31 300ZX and the 200SX, I still love how fricken indestructible this car is.

The rear suspension (IRS) does suck, but it handles pretty good considering other IRS cars in comparison. Also, stock S13 and 14 parts bolt on to the front suspension as Mr1der said, all you have to do is get some custom tie-rods and you are in business!

I have ridden in a Megan aftermarket equipped S12, and I have to say that even with the semi-trailing arm suspension and IRS, the car handles MUCH better than stock, and it eats up stiff spring ratios in the rear too.

Maintenance costs are way down from what AE86 owners are dealing with now, too.

NOW QUIT BLOWING UP THE SECRET!

Let me guess, you are a AE86 fanboi and can't stand someone picking the S12 because you don't like the looks of it? How is that any different?

How about making your own poll thread and putting in the "must have driven both" criteria.

since when are Corollas cheap to modify?

club4ag...haha...

hachiroku.net has a lot better community.Maintenance costs are better than a corolla? Maybe they have changed in 4 years since my rolla' but the cost of ownership was never that bad at all.

The S13 is so much cleaner and more modern looking than the AE86 Corolla. It was pretty far ahead of it's time in a lot of areas. Heck, if you want to do things your way, the AE92 was clearly a diseased copy of the S12. 6 years later.

One little styling cue from the AE86 I've always liked, though, is the little almost-spoiler upturn at the back of the hatch.

Also, the S12 was based on a SPORTS CAR platform (related to the Z31 and Datsun 810) and built as a sports car. The Corolla was designed and built to be an ECONOMY car. They're not even the same type of car. If it wasn't for the fact that pretty much everything was RWD back then they wouldn't even be compared today. It'd be like a 1995 Geo Prism being compared to an S14. Different cars with different purposes.

Oh, and the AE86 never came with a VG. /discussion

What appeals to my styling-wise about the S12 is a lot of what appeals to me styling-wise about the A70 Supra. The sleek thin flush running lights below the popups, the long-low-wide stance, the minimal grille and on turbo models the strong muscular raised hood.

It doesn't matter which cars are derived from which. The corolla is a much more sporty, fun, and rewarding car to drive, even without a V6 lump in the bay. Style is always subjective, but I think the S12 has a slight advantage (hatch vs. hatch). Between the two coupe versions though, I'm not sure anyone will side with the S12 on that one.

I wonder how many people in this thread have driven both cars?

<---has.

a stock Corolla GT-S is fairly boring. I will say the little 4A-GE is much more fun engine than either of the S12's US offerings.

laid out on paper though, stock for stock, both are nothing to crap your pants over.

hell, I think an EF Civic Si or CRX is more fun than either in stock form.

I've driven both as well. I find the 86 to be much more tossable in the turns and light on it's feet, whereas the S12 seems much less responsive and heavy (stock vs. stock).

it's probably that extra 600 pounds

the S12 did get a softer suspension in comparison to the GT-S though.

this thread would be more relevant in Australia.
