Ok, I mena most of us are 18+ in teh age field but we still have censored words. I feel, there should be no censorship at all. A curse is a curse, we all heard them or even use. If you worried about kids reading this, then if they are old enough to look at car forums, most of the time they are 16+. No other forum has censorship like this. WHy have it here?

To keep some kind of professionalism? I can understand censoring f.u.c.k, and others but, come on, c.o.c.k? I dont really have a problem with it, but there are a bunch of old guys here (Infiniti/Q owners;)) and they have grown out of using bad language I guess. Who knows?, let a mod post their side of the story.

I say keep it. I'd like to think we are all intelligent enough to be able to describe things without the use of profanity. Why is it you feel the need to use profanity?

Yep, we have the rights of free speech, but NICO has its own set of terms of agreement, or something like that, and does not have to go by the amendment of free speech...or something like that.

You should have heard me yesterday when I smashed my finger while remodeling my kitchen. I yelled things that would have made Sam Kinison blush, may he rest in peace. The ages of the mods and admins are not the reason. That kind of language is not required here, nor is it suitable for a lot of members. Being 18 does not automatically impart a desire to read expletives online, nor the maturity to not "abuse" them on a venue in which misunderstandings take place all too often as it is.Besides that, we *do* have members that are not yet 18, and I for one want NICO to be a site that their parents are happy about having their kids surf.

I like that I can go to Houston Imports and see naked women and read foul language, but that forum is a bunch of loser ricer kids that all drive B16 Hondas. I like that we have to watch our Ps and Qs here and that when we really need to get something out, we can usually find a way to beat the "*".

As far as kids go, it's ridiculous to think they're not exposed to profanity in daily life, or that they don't use it themselves already. I don't know about you guys but car culture doesn't strike me as all wholesome with teletubbies for mechanics. There's plenty of swearing when cars are involved.

However, there's really no need to be using profanity on a online forum. Profanity is for the spoken word, it makes its effect better that way anyhow. If there's no censorship on this board, we'll attract the kind of morons rico05 described. I like the idea that it makes this board a little bit more professional.

in my daily life (i'm 20) I don't curse at all, I do only when the situation requires me to, so… same on nico, if I must use a censored word there are ways to avoid the *

Dont start giving us the crap about free speech and stuff. You can talk however you want, anytime you want, just not on NICO. *On here* there is the word filter, so honestly if it bothers you that much, either dont post words you know will get filtered, or dont post at all.

Have a nice day :)

Honestly, I use far worse words fairly often in my day to day life, and I'm 17. Even at school, going a day without hearing someone drop the f bomb is rare. It's really not a big deal to me, nor to my parents (generally... I hardly ever cuss in front of them, though a nice s*** popped out when my mom came up to inform me that the garage door banged my trunk like a bad whore).

Having said that, I don't think there's any reason to remove the filter. Like 1der said, it forces us to get more creative with our venting and name calling :D, and despite the fact that they are just words, there is this thing called social standards to look at. This is the most professional forum I've ever seen, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Yeah, the one way around the censoring.. not something mods approved of last I checked. In any case, I don't think the censorship on here is an issue. If some people don't approve of profanity, that's fine, it's not nearly essential to discussing 99.999% of the stuff discussed on NICO. If you feel you cannot express your opinion/idea/emotion/etc without being able to substitute something in to make it a little more PG-13, then maybe you shouldn't be posting..I'm not saying I don't do it.. not many people don't. All the same, it's not really needed, but having censorship is not hurting anything or anyone. Just my $0.02.

I think Robert aka Daedalus summed it up well.

Also, I like to keep at least <some> standards.

Maybe with the capitalization, I put it in earlier in my garage door thread, not even really thinking about it, and it came out ****, so...

Several of you made some good points...

Here's the deal - NICO's founder, Dr. Birkmire, and the current owner (yours truly) have chosen to make NICO a little different as far as professionalism and appearance. We strive not to use such language in daily conversation, and don't want it on our forum (however, we all slip at times).

Just because "everyone else does it", doesn't make it right. If you really want to be "different" or "radical", try communicating in a mature fashion, no matter where you are. You'll stand out as a leader and you'll be amazed at the respect you garner from your peers.

Have some respect for yourselves, your friends, your NICO forums, the NICO sponsors, and all the other people who may read your posts (keeping in mind that these posts will remain searchable for decades).

p.s. Those of you who would circumvent the filter should think twice before you do so - I have no problem with pulling the plug on someone rather than having to clean up after them... It's a waste of our moderators' time.

Thanks! :)

^ laying down the law!!I find it kinda funny that someones asking the mods to allow profanity. Do you feel that it would help you get your point across better? Are you missing something without it?

I just wanna be able to use the less refind term for the lovely posterior-- words like assclown and a$$ are so precious to me in real life, it's hard for to not share them here without having to work extra to bypass the filter and then feel bad about it. =\

Edit: Well gee, don't I feel silly? I coulda sworn at one time that it was censored. I have no problem with keeping the forum at a PG-13 level though.
