You sir, need to work on your research skills then. This site obviously offers, for it's advertisers, hard facts as to the number of hits it gets. These facts are what you're after. If you're aware that the users online can so easily be mainupulated through an administrative VARIABLE, then why would you even bother to look. This is an option that can be changed! It's not manipulative just because other boards do it differently, it's there so that if people want to change it, it can be changed. May I refer you to the quote in my signiture.

I show 896 guests right now. Did your browser cache the page perhaps? You'll also notice in the "Users Online" button it clearly shows when the user was last active. If you really cared you could go through there and not count the ones that don't fit your definition of being currently logged in.
