Don't mess with the brakes...stock brakes are good enough. Most people only do that for ballerness. A nice wheel and tire combo will do wonders for your handling, though. As for hp, it's a KA...unless you have money for a turbo kit, hp should not be a concern. However, throw a decent header and exhaust on it and you might pick up a couple horsepower. If all else fails, alot of hp adding stickers can be had for $1000.

Stock brakes suck...

I've driven an '08 Accent and it had MUCHHHHH better brakes.

And yes, I'm comparing it to an Accent.

I would work on suspension and steering for awhile. Im just now getting into mine after my sr swap. Its so much more fun than HP gains. there is nothing better than a great handling car. If you want cheap hp... umm, maybe remove you emissions? And a full exhaust. To get more power after that you gonna have to drop quite a bit of money. Maybe get a one piece drive shaft or a j30 vlsd???Just some things I wish I did before I did my swap....http://www.frsport.com/RSR-77-....htmlh ... rs..._1182

Yeah. Actually, I would grab some coilovers first. Provided that your maintanance is all up to spec. There's a few coilover brands you can buy with $1000. Megan, Parts Shop Max, Stance, etc...

That will make a huge bigger difference on how your car feels than any of those useless bolt-ons.

If Z32 brakes are too rich for your blood, don't forget about Q45 & J30 brakes.

Once you're got your suspension/brakes/wheels/tires on a good upgrade path, then start looking at power. For about $1000 you can put together a t25/t28 turbo kit for about 200hp+.

Be careful of this kind of thinking. There's no reason for your Ka to blow if you do things properly. If your goal is 300hp, I'd suggest skipping the budget t25/t28 build in that case. Save about $3000 and do it right the first time with a t3/04 turbo and proper tuning.

Long gone are the day when KA's where looked down upon. These days, ppl have learned to maximize their strengths and create setups that leave SR users jealous.

Everybody that thinks 240 brakes suck must have something wrong with their system. My car stops on a dime...stock brakes, stainless braided lines...but all else stock. Anyway, as mentioned above, do some suspension stuff and don't worry about the motor. DIY turbo kits are cool and all, but only having a grand to work with doesn't leave yourself much room for error.

stock brakes are not sufficent. maybe for a stock car but start adding power and then try to stop at 140mph then tell me what you think. my car runs low 13's and high 12's and i must say the stock brakes suck donkey balls. i did suspension and motor upgrades and left the brakes alone. i regreted it so now i got some z32 brakes waitin to go on. drive a car with REAL brakes and then drive a 240 with stock brakes. nuff said.

my car outruns my dads vw passat w8 but they both have a similar top speed and id much rather have his brakes than mine. mine arent worn out either.

imo upgrade the suspension, brakes, then worry about power and after that worry about looks. id rather have a beast thats ugly than a badass lookin car thats a creme puff.

and motors dont blow from teachin a girl how to drive lol. ive put junkyard motors with unknown mileage through holy hell and i rev them up to 8k. still got that motor around. runs beautifully and burns no oil and makes no nasty noises, put over 40k on it too drivin it like i stole it

Don't bother with headers. Don't bother with anything you'd just end up getting rid of when you go turbo.

Things have a tendency to feel good until you've experienced better. Even Z32 brakes aren't perfect. Z32 brakes are a budget setup versus upgrading to a kit like Brembo, StopTech, etc.

If you want some decent brakes on the cheap get Q45 front calipers. Dirt cheap, 9999x better over stock and they're basically plug and play. Just get the rotors drilled for four lug.

As far as HP upgrades, you have about all the bolt on stuff. I would get an exhaust you like and be done with it.

Have fun and don't spend all your money in one place. :D

Thought this thread was going to be worse. I would check the build threads and stickies and see what other are doing. But unless you go high compression, you wont make much from a small, mid compression 2.4 liter engine.

But you could always port and polish the head with mill. Free flowing intake and exhaust system, cam swap, and tuning. Maybe add 20whp

yeah without forced induction or nitrous you cant pull alot of hp out of the ka.

I love my Q45s just as much as the next person, but the dude said he wants HP, not to stop better.

You need NAWZ!!!!!!!! But seriously, $1,000 won't get you much of anything in terms of a turbo (especially a good, reliable one). If you want power on the cheap, you have to spray. Just make sure to use a wet shot (gas and NO) and not to go too high on the jet. You can get 50 hp easily (and maybe 100 if you're daring/don't give a F@#k about your KA popping).

Now, if you really want to get a turbo, go save up some more money and plan things out. Believe me, it'll be worth it.

yeah cuz high hp is good with stock brakes

the q brakes are what i would say to do. get the chassis ready to handle high hp before throwing power at it. you arent gonna get anywhere in terms of power with 1000

Take it from me, I got stock brakes.

I decided to max out my car one day, reaching just under 240km/h in my 1989 240sx (auto), all it has done is kyb struts.

I came over the top of a hill, to see 3 cops on the other side took me well over acceptable distance to stop, or slow down for that matter before the cops seen me. I realized how stupid it was to push my car to its limits when my car was not ready for it.

Thank god one was just parked on the hiway to look at a dead deer in the ditch, and the other two stoped there to visit I guess. So none of em had there radar on. But now they watch me like a hawk everywhere.

So the moral of my story is to get an upgrade on your brakes. If you plan on driving more then 150 km/h on a regular bases, I swear to god you would be f***ing stupid not too lol.

Moral of the story: get bigger brakes so you can slow down from 150 kmh before the cops can radar you.

Lovely advice there.

Rule of thumb is that if you can see the police, they can see you with their radar. End of story.

danield319, I'm not too far from Kent. You may see my car crusing around, or vice versa.

Best power for the buck is Nitrous. And dont give me that crap that it will blow the engine. Be smart about it. Use a 50-75 wet shot and retard timing 1* for every 50 shot used. Also pick up an adjustable fuel pressure regulator as well. Have some fun.

i run a 75 shot on stock timing, nitrous doesnt blow motors, peoples poor installation/jetting blows motors. ive been running nitrous since i was 18 now im 24 and ive never blown a motor. just make sure you got 93 octane from a reputable gas station and you dont skimp on the fuel jet.

a 50 shot is worthless imo. when i first got my kit i hooked up a 50 shot and was very disapointed. bumped it to 75 and thats when it got fun. soon as i replace my stock clutch im goin 125 then 150. of course with timing retard. of course nitrous isnt for everyone. some people just shouldnt wrench on their car
