Zee, Auto X?.. 400-450.. NA or turbo?.. for Auto X turbo at that HP might take some effort keeping it pulling in boost... Torque is your friend in Auto X.. Low end grunt/pull and light light weight. Getting good traction is key... ever watch a Super Seven as Auto X... insane ! Looks like a motor with wheels and it kicks everyone *** at it.. Now a nice NA engine set-up and is built to pull hard through say 6500 rpm. The Auto X I've competed in usually are On throttle hard..Off throttle.. brake.. back on.. that kind of driving is hard to keep big turbos from laggin too much.. and hitting boost at weird times... the Subbies and Evo's kick so much *** cause of the AWD and good torque..

Maybe an S15 SR20... punch it to a 2.2L w a stroker kit and you may be pretty close... you could probably put 350hp with good spool ablity (higher compression will respond quicker to boost, but strain the bottom end more...SR bottom ends are strong and can probably handle it pretty well)..Drop about 300-400 lbs from the car and you would have a badass AutoX machine. An RB20det... although smaller pistons and faster rev.. are a bit heaver and what you make up in power.. you give right back in weight with larger engine.I loved Auto X back aways.. used to hang with a bunch of guys with Porsche's and Lotus's... the Lotus Seven kicked everyone ***... was almost funny to watch cause it was so fast. I used to run a Fiat 124 spyder that I thought was the **** (when it wasn't in shop), but the Itailan POS didn't hold up too well to the abuse..Just some thoughts..

i would think if you wanted to start auto x you would start with other things first like suspension/wheels/tires/lsd etc. power definetly isnt everything, i can tell you that for a fact. my little na ka has eaten plenty of cars in the twistys. i honestly dont see me needing much more power right now, i would much rather do suspension/lsd etc. i would think that a vg would be the wrong choice for auto x, you would want a well balanced car and i think it would be hard with a vg. i would probobly do an lsx just because you can get one for probobly around the same price as a vg30dett. they weight about the same as a ka and have awesome potential (saw a trans am put down 419 whp with just i/h/e etc.). i plan on doing that in the future after i turbo my ka, possibly in a different car.

Other than the aweful size and offset, they look ok. But I agree they are not worthy of that car. Happy birthday Jordan!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JORDAN, dueces are GR8!!

Thanks everyone for your support, I'd like to p/u that sharknose and DOHC from you Topless, but I don't have a truck really. I use a truck for work and I've got it this weekend, but I don't really feel too comfortable going out of town w/ it for personal business. I may be able to call a favor in though...I found a driveshaft @ CMC in gaston and they told me $70, but free has always been one of my favorite 4-letter words. scs13, I'll send u and email or something cause I'd like to get my 240 back on the road soon. I also found out that my plug wires are shot and I've been running on 3 cylinders. I'll some new wires and spark plugs after I install the driveshaft. I suppose this is a given, but my car doesn't have abs and my understanding is there's a variation in driveshafts with abs and w/o.

Zee, first off I agree that it's gonna be almost impossible to find a VG in a junkyard. Secondly I also agree that it will benefit you to gather more intel on your swap project. I plan to go RB and I'm still getting information in order to make it as smooth as possible. Sure it's gonna cost me an arm, leg, and a kidney; but GR8ness requires sacrifice. I'm putting together a powerpoint presentation of how my whole project will come together so that I can have a "map". This way everything is documented and if I need to change something, at least I've got a point of reference. Of course you don't have to be as neurotic as I am, but it may help if you start putting your ideas on paper and attaching $$ figures to each phase of your plan. Lastly, don't give up on your dreams, but be sure that your expectations are realistic. We all have goals of what we want our cars to be someday, but we have to also put things into perspective so that we can enjoy them to the fullest! Just my $.02

Gregg, I tried calling you the other day after I went to Gaston but it went straight to your vm. You should still check out CMC, they've got a pretty decent inventory and it would be a lot easier for you to get some body parts from them vs travelling long distance or worse, getting bumpers and fenders shipped.

Sorry... I thought you had an Auto.. the driveshafts are different lengths.. you won't be able to use an auto driveshaft... too short i think.. the auto transmission is longer.. also ABS and NON ABS is an issue as well.. Hope that helps.. I did tell Gregg that he had first dibs on fenders and bumper. I did tell him that when I started to work on motor install I would let him know. sorry about the confusion.. the motor is available, but may need some work as I posted earlier. I'm a bit punch tired.. zzzzz..

gr8bryt, you really ought to consider getting that KA from John. You'll need power steering lines from a dohc car (super easy to remove and replace w/ the engine out), do the work that John said it requires (water pump), then get someone to sort out the wiring for you (there's a guy down here who will do it for $50-$100. and he may have the power steering lines). I'm in the middle of a dohc swap (little by little) and it's really straight up so far.

whew! ok, I'm going to bed, me and a buddy just got done swapping an lsd into my car.

I would like to get that motor, but w/o a truck it would be pretty much impossible. He did say that Gregg would be able to have a crack @ it first, and I wouldn't want to put in a rift in any previous commitments. It would perhaps be an ideal scenario, but I may have to pass this one up. If Gregg can't get it then I suppose I may be able to procure some type of truck by next weekend when Topless is off from work.

Bummer about those driveshafts being different, I guess I'll just have to get that one from CMC. Still $70 isn't too bad I suppose; and really the part is $50 and they will charge me $20 to pull it off. I will probably get it by the end of this week when I get a few bucks.

Yea, Zee i dont know why you want a VG and do auto-x. Thats the dumbest thing i've heard.

****, i know a bunch of NA KA's that walk all over SR and RB cars in Auto-X. Its not how fast your car is or the HP its all in the suspension and how you drive. Thats my .02

youre exactly right. its mostly about the driver. i would start of going to a few events and seeing where you stand. learn your car, learn new techniques, and slowly buy upgrades.

Hey guys.. I just wanted everyone to be able to watch this car autocross.. this is an example of the lotus 7 that I was talking about.... insane videos.. these cars are only like 130 hp.... and kick everyones *** at the events.. the reason... only weighs 1250lbs... I believe there is a formula for every 10 lbs you shed on the car, you pick up like equivalent of 1 hp... just watch the videos and enjoy.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9t1iV0RsJY

You do what I was looking at the videos and I was wrong. It is not AutoX. I think that is what the call it. I don't worry too much about names I just like to go race, I don't much care what it is. I just like the rush of it all. I was thinking of it is Circuit Racing (you know like Formula 1 stuff that goes around a track). I am sorry for the confusion. Anyway I would only track it on occasion this is mostly just a really nice toy for me to play with.

Well then you'll definately want better weight distribution so your not throwing your car everywhere.

Yeah Zee, That does change things a bit.. I believe the name they use overseas and now here is Grip Racing or Time Attack (laps against others or race against the clock and others). Driver skill at beginning level is key and having a very predictable car would benifit you most.. good (not crazy or twitchy) power, awesome brakes and suspension, good tire set up (offsets and compounding), lots of inner bracing for safety (slide off the track one time at 90 and you will be happy to walk away - that comes from well built roll cage), bracing and more bracing, good balance/ weight distribution is helpful (you can always add weight to balance - many times that is needed to stay in class), oh yeah.. good safety gear (sorry the dad in me broke out.. ). Keep us posted on your progress...

I thought it might be called Grip Racing, but after the first mistake I didn't want to say something that would be wrong. I am looking on how to keep weight distribution good and equal (or as close to equal as physically possibly). Roll bar is a must and I have a helmet and some pretty good safety gear, but I might need to upgrade before I go out there. I will keep everyone updated, but I do not want to tell my ideas until they become finalized because I do end up changing my mind alot. In the end I just want something that I can have fun with and be really happy to have.

those first two videos arent really autox like they do here. ive never seen anything like that, its pretty crazy. heres a video of a 240sx doing autox, not the best video but its just so you get an idea.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...earch=

i would love to get into some scca racing or something. i have no idea really how to go about getting involved in that. i need to get some more info about the clemson sports car club autox events and the ones that somebody said they do at bmw.

heres a short video of me at ceasars head. its so much fun.

ok.. ok.. so you needed to see a Nissan doing that to believe it's autoX..lol

Good video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1mqkm5d2Lg

the autoX event differs by how much room you have to do it in.. No leavys to do them here...hell.. no mountains like those in the background either..lol.. musta been on the west coast..

Hope you guys like the video anyway..

gymkhana or whatever is a little different than autox. more of drifting and sliding around cones etc. autox is more like racing on a circuit, just a course set up in a large parking lot.

zee, if youre interested in time attacks or circuit racing check out gt live, its a lot of fun.

http://www.gtlivetour.com/

we should really get a meet going sometime this summer. go cruise through the mountains or something. tail of the dragon is always fun, its just long drive from here.
