well in WinISD with a 4cu.ft box, i get pretty much a flat response from 30hz to 60hz at -2.75db and slowly rises to -1.27 db by the time is reaches 100hz... so not too bad

when tuned at 50hz, i get a response of +4.8db at 52hz... i'm not sure how to read this graph but it seems like this would be ideal for competition...

simm, rex, mecp, or any other of you guys know how to use WinISD? if so, my sub is a "Digital Designs 9015b-2/2" and the box i'm making is going to be in between 3 and 4 cu.ft... let me know what you think would be the ideal tuning frequency for both daily driver and competition as well as the box size, that's if you have nothing better to do :pface

thanks in advance!

i myself don't know how to use WinISD but i do have TermPak a pretty pricey box building program i can **** around with the dd 9015b and the specs of 3-4 cu ft. you have 3 options for sound quality boomer esoteric and standard i wish i could send you the program so you dont' ahve to fork over 500 for it but it uses a usb key and it won't work without the key in the computer:( i'll try to find some stuff on how to read those graphs correctly too i used to remember when we learned about it in toronto but that was also acouple ounces of green ago and well you know how that goes lol

at 10am i got right to work on laying 2 more layers of fiberglass while the sun was still out...

i think this was the 5th & final layer of fiberglass that i was about lay down for the base

i think i was gettin a little high off the fumes at this point...

drew out the subring with my crazy pencil & string jig...

us crazy canucks... definately high at this point, sportin' my sub ring around my waist

sweatshirt covered with fiberglass strands

buddy hooked up his Poly K 4's & tweets to his oldschool receiver, runnin through his limited edition crossovers... this was our jukebox :pface

did just a tonne of beltsanding today... was working on a triangular top piece of my amp rack for a good part of the day...

this is the triangle all taped up for painting the last few edges that aren't vinyled... this thing is a work of art i swear... 3 pieces of 1/4" "hard board" sandwiched together with a triangular piece of plexi in the middle... then vinyled to perfection!! :D it is the centerpiece of my amp rack.

i also picked up 4" pvc pipe to make my ports... not going to cut it untill i have some definite figures on how long the ports should be.

next update i hope to get the supports done and have the fleece stretched over them...

i'm assuming that this box is gonna be approx 4cu.ft, so i'm gonna tune the ports to 30hz accordingly and hope that it sounds ok :pface

oh you'll see... i was tying in the front of the cabin with the trunk by vinyling my amp rack the same color as my door panels...

ya, i didn't want to have to spend soo much time on making a fiberglass amp rack, and i wanted the rack itself to be removeable and easy to work with, hence all the MDF... but you'll see, it'll look insane when i'm done!! i hope :rolleyes

well my last box without the sub in it weighed over 90 lbs... 4.5 cu.ft made of 3/4" mdf.. the sub weighed another 30 lbs and the amps/cap, got it up to a good 140 lbs... oh ya, and the 40 lbs of roofing material i placed in my trunk for sound deadening :pface

but honestly in this setup there isn't a lot of mdf... the amp rack is 1/2" mdf, and right now weighs about 15 lbs... but i mean it covers a big part of my trunk.. the box for the sub itself won't be that heavy cause it's gonna be all fiberglass, prolly around 45 lbs... so i cut around 30 lbs plus this one will look waaaay better and covers my entire trunk

"Rattle Rattle Thunder Clatter BOOM BOOM BOOM.... dont worry call the sound dampening man!" rip off of the CAR-X jingle. I can see the hatch loving every minute of that 15 slamming straight into it!!! What is your plan for dampening the hatch... as it is really hard to effectively dampen them. Nice pics!

hehe actually it wasn't a problem at all with my last setup... i had it just as close to the hatch with a beefy slot port facing straight up too... the only problems i had with rattles was around the tailights.. i might spray a little expanding foam in parts of the hatch, but gotta be careful cause i don't wanna expand metal too

oh and probably gonna buy some carpet underlay and stuff it in the gaps between the box and the trunk for cushioning, as well as some more roofing material :pface that stuff does wonders but it looks like absolute shiit and EVERYTHING sticks to it, even rca cables, which i just found out...

it's coming along... finished supports and wraped it in fleece the last two times i worked on it... matching the position & angles of the ports was really tough, cause some of the supports on the left port where in the wheel well, while the other side i had a flat surface to mount... such a pain in the *** and a lot of trial & error

good for a street car.but it will loose in s.q....the way his speakers are they will not image correctly.he may do alright tonaly,but....anyway thats just comp.nice lookin job your doing.way to take charge.i used to run 14 quarts in my interior and had to start over to compete.it was loud it was tonalkly close but not a s.q. car.path length diff is to much there.i commend you tho.its pretty cool.i was wondering.how many hours or days it to to find the right imaging on those mids alone.are you familiar with sheffield lab test disk.

diamond you are exactly right... my imaging/SQ sucks sweaty goatballs, you can totally hear the left/right bias cause the 4's & tweets are smackin you right in the face, but it's frickin LOUD and that's all i care about right now... these are the lowest end CDT's so i didn't really care much about imaging, hell i'm not even runnin a filter, straight up full range, and they don't mind it whatsoever, at least not for a while anyways... if i upgrade my components i'm gonna build kicks for the 4's and have the tweets mounted up on the dash prolly aimed towards the lower middle of the windshield, but then again it all depends on which component set i get and how the manufacturer recommends aiming them... this was my very first car and very first system, i have a long ways to go and lots to learn :pface

couple more pics... sloooow process with school & work holding priority right now...

this is what it looks like after i popped it outta my trunk... sides are left completely open so that i could fiberglass the underside of the top layer... this will reduce the amount of body work i have to do by a LOT!

did 6-8 layers for the top and bottom, used a total of about 5 yards of fiberglass matte to do that... now i'm stretchin the fleece on the largest side of the enclosure... this pic doesn't show it but i resined the fleece right after and put down some fiberglass on it

holly ****... 120db is hella loud at that frequency range :pface i love my silk cdt tweeters, they're detailed but not harsh at all, really smooth actually, so i don't mind listening to them at super loud volumes whatsoever

ya thats way to loud for um..i backed down and try not to listen more than 115 full range,my ears are a little messed up.you would have guessed huh.cdt are cool.i use top of the line quart tweets 800.00 dollar worth,4 tweets, super naturla, smooth.morel makes some nice tweets too.i hate brite out of control tweets.hurts,hehe..always got really good mid and tweet scores.midbass is always were i had my problem..i tune to play louder than they test apperently.it was always, the louder it gets the better it sounds.wish i was well and had your energy to play around, man,K+
